Product Review: J.Crew Havona Tank

Now for the J.Crew Havona Tank, item #12966, retailing for $128.00, and part of the J.Crew Collection. I had intially planned on reviewing this last week, so I took some IRL pics but they turned out blurry and the lighting was bad. I am posting one of the blurry pics now because I don't know when I'll get the chance to take anymore since this week is an extra busy one...sorry for the bad photo quality and the *auto adjusted lighting*. At least with this one you can get a good view of the fluffed up flower and overall fit. The tank arrived in a clear plastic bag with no special wrapping at all. It is 100% silk organza and has a bit of a stiff feeling to the fabric (common for organza). I am wearing the size 0 and it fits nicely through the bust without being tight on my hips. I have on a nude bra and white pants in the pic. The tank is fairly sheer, but I did not feel it was immodest without a cami underneath it. The nude bra does not show a lot through the fabric, but the white pants do show, as you can see in the photo.
I also paired it with my Jackie Cardigan in Honey Glaze and it looked really beautiful. It also looks great tucked in with a metallic gold skinny belt, and isn't too billowy in the bodice to feel uncomfortable when doing so. I actually feel like I should be on a Resort vacation in this top and don't think it is overly practical for my everyday life. Also, even though I had fluffed the flower, it was starting to droop by the time I had taken a couple of photos, and I would actually contemplate removing it if I were to keep the tank. I DO think it is absolutely gorgeous IRL, and I would really like to keep it, but will have to wait for it to go on sale, unfortunately.

Here is a pic with a closer view of the beautiful braided neckline.
Are you considering the Havona Tank? Do you think it is worth paying full price, or would you wait for it to go on sale?

  1. It's soooo pretty on you--those colors are perfect for your complexion! How did you fluff the flower petals?

  2. Looks divine on you! The flower actually looks good, too. I think this is a top that works best with the hair up. Gorgeous with your coloring and your choice of white pants/gold accessories.

  7. Thank you KatyO! I fluffed the flower by following what shopaholicdiva told me an SA suggested: *The SA held a petal in between the two fingers of both hands (like she was pinching them)then took the petals apart individually at the base and twisted them in opposite directions and they actually plumped up into a pretty flower.* It worked pretty well, as you can see in the first pic.

Jenny K.: THANK YOU!!! I agree that it definitely needs to be worn with an updo. :)

Thank you Cari! The flower can be removed, and could actually be placed on another part of the neckline, or even on another shirt, cardigan, tee, tank, belt, etc.

  8. I think since you are petite you can pull off this top. ALso you have very sculpted arms and shoulders and they look great w/ top. Do you workout? Or naturally have nice arms?

  9. Shopaholicdiva, Dina, and luvallthingsjcrew: Thank you all so much for the compliments...I really like this one, too! :)

  10. You look fabulous!!!! Are you going to keep it?

My Havona tank arrived Monday, and I love it! Full price, so it's a bit tricky. I took a 0, and it's sold out online and in my store. It may not get to sale after all. I agree that it's not sheer with a nude bra. The floral print helps a lot. This is, IMHO, the best JC item this season.

  11. Thank you Mslay! I actually build muscle really easy and have to be careful about the kind of workouts I do (when I have time to workout)or else I become too bulky, especially in the thigh area (then my pants don't fit right). I have for the most part exercised on a regular basis since I was a teenager, so I think that has helped contribute to the muscle I have. Plus I worked as a clerk at UPS for almost a year where I also loaded packages onto the trucks, not to mention all the years of lugging around strollers, groceries, and babies. I think all of these factors, along with having a naturally muscular build has helped to give me muscular arms. :)

  12. Hi Vivian! Thank you for the compliment! I'm so glad you love your tank, too! I'm still not sure if I'm keeping it...just because of the affordability factor for me, otherwise I wouldn't hesitate on keeping it. I think it is absolutely gorgeous! :)

  16. I think it looks gorg on you & am contemplating getting it, but I feel too guilty paying FP. I haven't seen it in any of the BMs. I would pair it w/ white jeans too, maybe a pencil skirt. It looks really Palm Beach, resortish, but would be so pretty to wear w/ a cardi for Easter!

  17. MMM, thank you so much! :) I do think the flower can easily be removed...it is only held on by a few threads to begin with. The place where the tank is hooked on the braided neckline is meant to be covered up by the flower, but I don't think it will look bad with the flower gone. It can even easily be *connected* by a hidden safety pin or a pretty brooch, but I don't think it would be necessary...more of a personal preference. I actually really like the idea of pinning the flower on a cute clutch or little tote bag to be worn with the outfit, too...the possibilities are endless...

  18. HeidiG and The Outfit of the day: Thank you both so much...colors in the blue family are my personal favorites for my coloring.

Thank you caliglam! The tank looks very pretty under a cardigan with the flower on the outside...I tried it with my Honey Glaze Jackie, and it was beautiful. Really perfect for Easter, too! :)

  19. I forgot to mention that the tank looks really good tucked in, too. I had on a metallic gold skinny belt with it, and it looked really pretty.

  20. Oh it is so divine on you FFM! You must re-purchase when it goes on sale!

  21. I love this cami, but I kind of agree with you that I might remove the flower. It might be a little much for RL, plus, if it droops...that's not really a good look. The color is fantastic though :)

  23. FFM-You look lovely in the top...absolutely your color palette! I think you should definitely pick it up on sale. Don't worry about blurry pictures, we still get the idea of how it looks. As I progress through my 40's, I'm enjoying the occasional blurry picture of myself! :)

  29. i think it looks good on you! May I suggest you color your hair into a warmer blonde? I think your hair color ages you a lot. Dont get me wrong you look amazing but your hair color doesnt do you justice.

  34. FFM, in my opinion, JCrew items are generally not worth their FP due to a lack of quality.

However, this top looks SO GOOD on you, I'd pay the full price if I were you. The color and design are so unique and they complement your skin tone, hair and eye color! I'm a brunette and I am really not sure it would look as good on me as it does on you.

I know we're smart shoppers but we can treat ourselves every once in a while, right? :)
