SPRING AT LAST!!!

Well it is official...SPRING IS HERE AT LAST!!! How FABULOUS!!! I have brought my white pants and capris out of their Winter *storage*, and plan to start wearing them this week. I am also on a *Spring Cleaning and Reorganizing* mission which started yesterday, and will last through the weekend. Well, probably into next week since it takes about 4 times longer to accomplish anything with 4 energetic boys, but I will not stop until my mission is complete! The boys' rooms are the main area that needs the true *clean, declutter, and reorganize* attack since they have been learning to clean their rooms themselves. This has lead to toys hidden under beds and dressers (making the floor clear is apparently their goal) that are now being pulled out and sorted with my help. I also plan to work on my closet, moving the Winter items to their *storage*, and rearranging all of my Spring and Summer items into either complete outfits, or else by color...it will all depend on how I feel when I actually get to it.
I personally think it feels liberating to get the *clutter* out, and reorganize everything...it somehow makes the house easier to clean and keep up with, too. I know it doesn't sound like a fun way to spend the weekend, but I need to get it accomplished while I feel motivated to actually do it. ;) I hope you all have a FABULOUS and BLESSED weekend!

Do you participate in Spring cleaning? Do you also declutter and reorganize? Do you have any tips or techniques you would like to share?

  1. I love spring cleaning and organizing. I always go through my closets and drawers and pull out any items that I didn't wear last season. I clean out my make up/hair stuff. And go through all the closets in the house and reorgainze. It's such a great feeling.

  3. Yes I love getting my home organized for the spring season. As a matter of fact I am on vacation begining the end of next week for that very purpose.I spent most of the winter decluttering my closets and drawers so I will spend my vacation painting and cleaning the walls/windows then head outside to get the yard ready for spring/summer planting. I am so excited. This is my favorite time of year. I am a Christian so the time of year is very special for me.

  4. I love spring & fall cleaning. I esp like to decorate in the fall. Will you please share tips about how you store items? My storage consists of putting items in a clear plastic bin and putting them in a closet. I use cedar spray before I close it up & silica packets. But if you have any additional things you do I'm all ears :-)

  5. Enjoy your spring cleaning - it is so good for the soul!!

My best tip on organization is the toy storage re-do I did with the kids this fall. We are using larger clear bins, with labels (all 4 sides - pics would work for younger ones), and that way they know where everything goes. (If the bins are too small, you have to subdivide categories too much and that makes clean up harder and take longer)

After we did this (which was, admittedly, after a major basement clean out), the first time we had to pick up, it took under 10 minutes. Makes it easy to clean up as a group, too - M, you pick up cars, E, you pick up Barbies, I'll pick up ponies. And we each do 1 task until done.

I also have 1 large clear underbed box under each of their beds for the assorted odds & ends - can help with a quick clean-up if needed, and then you can go through later - but at least it is all contained. HTH!

  6. I actually just took a break from sorting toy bins in the playroom (formerly our dining room, but located right outside the kitchen/family room, so more practical as a playroom while the kids are young). My daughter(5) is a great purger...my son (10) wants to keep EVERYTHING! Over the next few weeks,I will try to organize inside, so that when it finally warms up, I can get outside and clean up the yard. It's wonderful to hear the birds chirping.

    Happy Cleaning!

  7. So is it ok to wear white pants in Florida now? We don't have to wait until after Easter? I've never been sure of this.

  8. Hi Girls! Thank you all for sharing your tips and techniques!

Well, I have made a lot of progress so far...still quite a bit to go, but not as much as there was this morning! ;)

Joanne: I love the FlyLady! I actually have an entire binder of printouts from her website. I must say I don't follow everything specifically, but I do try to implement a lot of her ideas and information into my own routines.

Heidi: Thanks for the tips on storing the toys...it sounds like a fantastic idea. :)

  9. Hi anon @2:41! The actual *White Rule* doesn't allow anyone to wear it until after Memorial Day, which isn't until the end of May. I personally think that is just too long to have to wait, especially in Florida. ;) I have also heard about not wearing it until after Easter, as well. I personally think wearing white now that it is Spring is definitely ok, especially in Florida. I think it seems as if it has been Spring here for awhile now, since the weather has been so sunny and warm, so I don't think wearing white now seems odd or out of place at all, IMO.

  10. I, too, love spring cleaning - especially organizing my closet AND cleaning out the boys' rooms - that is always a work in progress! Great feeling to purge and make room for new! Gloomy and rainy here in the midwest - I should probably head to my closet to clean! Have a great weekend everyone!

I know what you mean about the boys. My husband took our 3 boys camping for the weekend. First time in 9 years, I have had the house to myself. What do I do? Pull off everyone's sheets, start washing and cleaning rooms. It goes so much faster when there are no boys about!!

p.s. I love the Flylady too. I have her book Sink Reflections.

Blessings on you and your family this week.

  16. I love to spring/fall clean my closet. I recently purchased a fabric steamer and have been going crazy with it! It's perfect to bring all my sweaters back to life after bringing them out of storage.

  17. I definitely need to do some Spring Cleaning (particularly in my storage closet!) I have to confess that I secretly love to Spring clean...it's like a new beginning for your home (and you!)

  18. silver_lining - I have a steamer that looks like an iron, but it is for steaming only. I love it, but I'm wondering if I should get the type that has the long hose.

What type of steamer did you get?

  19. I like Flylady too, but I think some of her ideas are a little wierd. Such as being always "dressed", including shoes. And that having a clean kitchen sink is the MOST important thing in the world. I say whatever works for you, do it!
BTW, I thought the no white in winter rule was over and done with! Go for it!

  20. Hi Gigi - I got a Conair with the long hose (and lint brush & bristle attachments) and really like it! It's pretty basic but easy to use after you get the hang of it. I have 2 cats and LOVE the lint brush attachment - I may end up going over all my winter coats with it!

  21. silver_lining - I definitely need one that I can use on drapes, etc... I'm limited by the style I currently have. Thanks for the info.
