Update on Spring Cleaning

Well, believe it or not: I am STILL Spring cleaning, and that is why I haven't been blogging as much the past couple of days. Like I said, trying to accomplish anything with 4 boys (3 of them age 5 and under) in the house takes a minimum of 4 times longer than normal. Anyways, I started on the boys' 2 rooms on Friday, and finally finished them, as well as the Dining Room late Saturday afternoon.

Sunday I moved to the Master Bedroom to start on it, and finally finished just the closet by the end of the day. (Not too bad considering all the meals I made, diapers I changed, etc. all day long while in the cleaning process). Today I worked on dresser drawers and my jewelry...I'm thrilled to say both of those tasks are completed.
I will admit that I have a lot of jewelry...I love it. I think the right pieces can *make or break* an outfit, and help pull a look together, too. I store most of my jewelry in jewelry boxes, but today I created a place to store some of my necklaces using a corkboard and pushpins after seeing sparrows and sparkles blog about it here . I thought it was a really creative idea and easy to accomplish so I did the same thing, and love the way it turned out. I think I will pick up a second corkboard to store the rest of my necklaces, as well as some of the bracelets.

Tomorrow I move to the Master Bath to declutter makeup and toiletries from the cabinets, and while I would love to move immediately to the office area...I will instead tackle the mountain of laundry that is apparently going nowhere unless I do it. I will continue to diligently work each day this week until my Spring Cleaning mission is complete. Once the declutter and organizing stage is finished I will then start the *deep clean*...curtains, windows, baseboards, walls, etc. It is an exhausting process, but extremely rewarding when completed, and I know that it blesses my guys (even if they don't say so).
How is your Spring Cleaning coming along? I know some of you were just finishing up, while others were yet to start...I would love to hear your progress. :)

  1. Good for you, FFM! Isn't a fantastic feeling to be organized? I've been eyeing my daughter's room all week with the same idea! Love the corkboard too. I did one after I saw a friend with it. It makes selecting so much easier! Enjoy!

  2. FFM - congratulations on the wonderful progress that you made spring cleaning! I have been trying desperately to get motivated to do the same, but it hasen't happened yet. My clothes have taken over my tiny apartment!

  3. Thanks BellasMom and Marietta! It really is a fantastic feeling to be reorganizing everything again...I LOVE organization! :)

BellasMom: I really love the corkboard...now my necklaces don't run the risk of getting tangled, and I can easily see them, too.

Marietta: I know exactly how you feel about the motivation factor...it finally hit me on Friday, so I took the feeling and ran with it. That's why I've been working so diligently on everything. Good luck! I hope it strikes you soon, too. ;)

  5. Thanks for posting this great idea about hanging the jewelry, it's seems so space efficient! I'm so glad to hear that you've embarked on your own Spring Cleaning Mission! I'm totally finished with mine and I feel a huge weight lifted!

  6. Love the spring cleaning. I still have to finish the far corners of my closet. But got a bunch of work done, so I can devote some daylight time to it (not so easy with the puppy). About the corkboard - where did you hang it. I saw Sparrows & Sparkle's and loved it, but it wouldn't really fit in my closet on the walls. Where did you put it? I thought about trying to cover the cork board with fabric to make it seem more deliberate in my room.

And it looks like you have the silk-ribbon chain link necklace in shell? Love that piece!!!

  7. Wow--you've made so much progress!

I cleaned out my closet and my drawers last weekend. I had a *huge* bag to take to the consignment shop and another bag to donate.

My major spring cleaning will have to wait--usually my impetus is the first day that it's warm enough to open all the windows in the house (and since winter seems to be hanging on in New England, it might not be for a while!).

  8. Oh, i love your jewelry collection. Fabulous! I too have alot of jewelry and a traditional jewelry armoire can't store all of my pieces. I just bought a tall lingerie drawer to organize my jewelry and used bamboo drawer dividers to keep it organized. However this is a fantasic idea and it keeps the necklaces from getting tangled.

Yay on your cleaning efforts. Doesn't it feel good...

  10. WOW, you're sdmirable! How do you manage to do all this with 4 boys? What's the magic formula? Thank you for sharing the corkboard idea (I had the same question than HeidiG though, where do you hang it)?

  11. I give you kudos for spring cleaning so early! I am holding off until the summer. ;)

By the way, I loved how you arrange your necklaces. They look like merchandise at the store- you can "shop" from home now- and I love it! :)

  12. Good Morning Girls! I really do like this corkboard idea for the necklaces, and even bracelets, too. I actually have it hanging over my dresser, because I need it to be somewhere that *little hands* can't reach, but that I can have easy access to.

Heidi, I was actually going to mention last night that I think it is possible to cover it with fabric that would coordinate in the bedroom. I know there are similar boards used for photos that are already covered, and I'm wondering if those would work for the jewelry. Anyone?

  13. Hello FFM!
I took a picture of the way I store my jewelry. Check my blog when you have time. Have a great day!

  14. I'm definitely going to copy this, thanks! My necklaces are always getting tangled in my jewelry box.

  15. I really like the corkboard idea. I don't have that much jewelry but the little I do have gets all jumbled on my dresser.

I'm saving my spring cleaning until my actual spring break when I have large amounts of time to devote to it. Unfortunately, we still have almost 3 weeks until that happens! This is the hardest time of the school year...the stretch from Christmas to Spring break is torture! :)

  16. I love the corkboard idea for necklaces! Mine are currently a jumbled mass on my dresser...
Does anyone have a good way to store scarves?

  18. I love the corkboard idea! I have a cute toile corkboard that I don't use so I am going to use it for necklaces. Thanks for sharing and congrats on the spring lceaning progress!

  19. Love the idea of the corkboard! I've thinned out my closet, but really need to work on the rest of the house. My bedroom needs new carpet and that will force me to get rid of items when I need to completely clear out that room =)

  20. I love your post! It is always so fun to get organized and clean, spring is the perfect time for it! I have a similar way to organize my necklaces and braclets. My husband mounted a piece of wood, painted the same color as the wall, to an empty wall near my closet. He then put furniture knobs on it. I use them as the hooks for the braclets and necklaces. They are sturdy if something is on the heavier side. It also looks pretty because the knobs themselves are very pretty.

  21. FFM you won’t believe but I have my necklaces displays in the same way but not in the corkboard. I organized my necklaces (I don’t have these many but…I keep forgetting about themJ) 2 years ago when I got the idea from one of my decorations magazines and I did it on the photo panel. I hanged it on my wall as part of my bedroom decoration like a painting and it looks very nice! I’ll try to post some pictures of it.
It’s a great feeling to be organized!
You have done a great job!

  22. FFM: That looks great! I love being all organized. I'm on vacation now but itching to get back home and get some projects done...

Clare in Canada: I store my scarves on a pants hanger on the back of my closet door - you know those hanger things where you can hang like 5 pairs of pants from it? Thats what I use, it lets me see them all at once.

  23. Great post, FFM! Congrats on your fabulous cleaning/organizing progress! You are so inspiring! I wish I had a small portion of your energy to clean and organize! Thanks SO much for the fabulous idea to store necklaces - I was just noticing that I had quite a mess going on in my jewelry box - perfect timing! I'm heading out to buy corkboard now! Have a great day!

  24. I love the corkboard idea! I have all my necklaces hanging on a rod in my bathroom, which I have found works pretty well. A couple of my long necklaces don't actually open and close though (they slip on over my head), so that doesn't work for them. The corkboard would solve that problem! Congratulations on being so motivated with spring cleaning, too. Every time I start I end up doing a load of laundry or maybe some dishes and then throw in the towel. Way to go FFM!!

  25. Hi,
You might also like what I did for my necklaces (also works for bracelets and some earrings). I bought some peg boards at Target like some people use in their garages, etc. They had a couple of different kinds of hooks so I bought packages of those and you can configure them on the peg board to work best for your jewelry!

  26. Good afternoon Girls! Thank you all so much for sharing your ideas for jewelry storage...I've learned a lot, and may try out a couple of the other ideas posted, too. :)

Heidi and Gigi, the silk ribbon necklace and glass bead necklace were gifts...I love them, too! :)

Andrea, I would love to see pics of your necklaces on the photo panel...what a fabulous idea. :)
