Denim and Pearls: The Stripe Cotton Popover IRL Pics

Denim and Pearls
Denim and Pearls by FFM featuring J Crew
On Thursday I received the Stripe Cotton Popover, item #15007 seen here , and my initial reaction to it was *love* and it's a keeper...however, on my second time trying it on today I am now more in *like* with it as opposed to loving it. It is definitely comfortable and has a very casual, summertime vibe to it...great for the casual Florida environment...I'm just not sure I *full price* like it. I'm thinking now that it may be more of a *sale price* like. It does look really cute with my white linen pants from ATL, as well as the J.Crew white HHF jeans, and my light denim *boyfriend* jeans from J.Crew Holiday '05 shown in the pic below. In the first pics I have the sleeves of the top unrolled and buttoned. The second pics show them worn as shown in the catalog. I have on the XSmall and the pics aren't exactly like the set...I was just trying to get a few pics to show fit of the popover.

Sorry for the poor lighting on this pic...if you click on it you can see it a little better.

What do you think of the Stripe Cotton Popover? Is it on your wishlist? Is it a definite *no* for you? I am personally on the fence about this one...

  1. Well--this WASN'T on my WISHLIST...but now after seeing it IRL--gosh I want it and am putting it in my VIRTUAL shopping bag!!!
Can I say--that although the pic is blurry--your hair looks beautiful! I'm sooo happy you are posting IRL! You GO GIRL!

  2. I* just bought it a few days ago and am waiting to see. I feel like I have sooo much to go with it. Living in San Diego I have to stock up on summer weight items b/c it is almost always hot or at least 70 here. I think you should keep it. It looks fab and it will be in your closet for years to come. It is a timeless chic casual beach top. hard to come by one that fits you so well. I hope it looks good on me too! fingers crossed~

  4. I love that shirt on you. Definately keep it. Are those wedges from Banana Republic? How is the comfort? You look fantastic. :)

  5. Love how you styled it (of course) and I think you'll get a lot of use out of it in different ways. Looks great on you; I say keep! :)

  6. Thanks LATJC! :) I think you would look fabulous in the popover!

Kristen: Yet another piece that we both have chosen...we really DO have similar taste! Thanks for the compliment. :)

Hi Jemma Ruby! Thank you and thanks for stopping by, too! :)

Nancy: Thank you so much! Yes, the wedges are from BR and I think they are comfortable. I love the way they look and ended up getting them in black, too (with my Gap rewards).

    Thank you Stylestance!

  7. This item has been in my shopping bag since it came out. However, it will HAVE to be an on-sale purchase. I'm glad to see IRL pics though (and agree with luvallthings that I'm happy you're doing them again! we missed you!) It's really cute and has a great casual vibe.

  8. I think it's a keeper for you. It's good, casual chic and I agree you can wear it for a long time, esp for multiple seasons in FL. I'm assuming it's lightweight. Divide the FP cost vs the minimum number of times you think you'd wear it.

Are those your DIY distressed jeans? I have a pair set aside to follow your advice. I am eager to try it.

  9. Thanks AppGal! I think this one would look FAB on you, too! It will more than likely make it to sale...doesn't seem to be high demand for it like the Safari jacket.

Hi Gigi! Thank you! I also agree it is great casual chic for Florida and looks even more so with the white linen pants...decisions, decisions...

These jeans aren't my DIY pair. I found these on Ebay last month. They are actually J.Crew Holiday '05 from the Factory store. They are really much cuter IRL, too.

  12. I agree.....it looks fabbie on you.

  13. Love the colors. The blues look great on you, and I'm wondering if it could be styled in a more nautical theme, maybe a rope bracelet or splash of red in an accessory or something. It reminds me of summer, and I think it's a keeper.

  14. You would look good in a gunny sack!

As for the shirt, I ordered it a few days ago and am anxious to see it IRL and wear it. It will never go out of style, so price-wise I think it's worth it.

  15. I love the shirt on you! Looks fantastic! I just received mine Thursday and I'm on the fence with it - not sure if I'll keep mine or not. However, just reading "Jenny K."'s comment - it will never go out of style - it's a good summertime basic - I may have to go ahead and keep it at full price - we'll see! Decisions, decisions!

  16. I am planning on wearing it with the dark denim bermuda, navy or white cafe capris, and my very dark wash boyfriend jeans by Joe's Jeans. For sure with the white seaside pant and my BR white drawstring linen pants. Lastly, my navy drawstring linen pant from the J. Crew outlet. The shirt is a keeper and a summer classic. I would with a darker bottom FFM and you might like the top more. It looks really cute on with the sleeves cuffed up. Not as much of a fan with them down. It is precious!

  17. I don't care for this shirt. Looks very plain and basic esp. for the price. Depends on if you need a basic striped shirt....

  18. Lake Nokomis and Patina: Thank you both so much! :)

Thanks Amethyst! I definitely think it could be worn in a more nautical way and red or navy look great with it, too.

Jenny: You are much too kind! Thank you for the sweet compliment. :) I think you're going to look great in it. Let me know what you decide.

Thank you Elizabeth! It really is a great summertime shirt and is *basic* enough to last for many years to come. Let me know if you keep yours. :)

Kristen: I love the idea of it with dark denim and navy, too. My favorite look so far is with my white linen pants...very *at the beach* casual chic.

  19. Hi Anon @4:03! Yes, it is a fairly *basic* shirt, but it actually does look better IRL...the pics don't do it justice, IMHO. I know someone else had also posted on JCA about not liking it. I'm sure it won't be for everyone, and that's why I think it will more than likely make it to sale...thus my dilemma about keeping it. I do have to add that it's really comfortable on and the fabric is substantial...much better quality than a lot of J.Crew clothing as of late. Thank you for stopping by, btw. Have a great weekend!:)

  20. Even though you've styled it very nicely, I don't full-price love it. Not sure if I even sale-price love it. I really don't like how they show it in the catalog with that striped shapeless drawstring cotton skirt. Looks like two pillowcases thrown onto a skinny model.

  21. Hi SallyO! Thanks for stopping by and for your opinion on the shirt! I appreciate hearing all of the feedback. :)

  22. Oh I would keep it FFM. I like what you've done with it. It has many possibilities, and I love the shades of blue...something serene about those tones.

  23. I would keep it, it is selling out on line. It looks great on you, and as you said it will be great for the Florida climate, you will get lots of wear out of it.

  24. *very* cute. And I love your distressed jeans - the fabilisness!!

  25. I LOVE it. It is very classic summer/ nautical- I think it's a keeper.

  26. Thank you Outfit of the Day! I think you would look great in this top! Let me know if you get it. :)

Monogramgirl: Thank you so much! :)

Thank you casual-crew and thanks also for the info about it selling out online...I didn't know that...very interesting. I agree it is really great for Florida, not to mention really comfy, as I said yesterday. :)

Thanks PFP! I got the jeans on Ebay and love them, too! :)

    Woobie: Thank you! :)

  27. Hi FFM, I have to say that I'm not a fan of this top, but I haven't seen it IRL. I don't like the stripes, maybe if it were a solid denim blue I would like it more. Definitively the safary jacket would be a much versatile purchase to incorporate in your wardrobe IMO. If you're on the fence, I would wait for it to go on sale. Have a nice week!

  28. Thanks for chiming in Ema! I really appreciate all of the responses. :)

  29. I like the shirt and I like it on you. I don't care for it with the sleeves down, though - not sure how much you would wear it like that in FL. I do think it's perfect for your climate; you'd be able to wear it many months out of the year. I will look for this one to try on next time I visit my b&m. It is gone online in many sizes, though, so it does seem to be selling well there. Good luck with your decision.

  30. I wasn't impressed by the pictures I saw on the Jcrew website, but now I want the shirt after seeing how good in looks on you IRL!
