The New Arrivals: My J.Crew Wishlist

My wishlist from the new arrivals at J.Crew:

Perfect Pencil Skirt in Bright Blue, item #17444 seen here on the J.Crew website:
Deco Shirred Skirt, item #17480 seen here . JCAs who have tried this on report that it is really short though. Perhaps sizing up will help with the length...I'll have to try it on to know for sure.

Merino Ruffle Fifi Cardigan, item #18931 seen here . I'm not sure about this one...it looks cute, but is hard to tell for sure from the online pics since the sweater is so dark. This is one that definitely needs to be seen IRL before making a final decision.
Sapphire Tweed Pencil Skirt, item #17481 seen here . I love the color but not the price. If this one is as thick as the Black and White Oona skirt then it will be a *no-go*...not flattering on my figure and too warm for Florida. If it is close to the same weight and feel as the Sparkle Tweed skirt from last year, then it will definitely remain on my wishlist. :)

So that's it for my wishlist. This is a small rollout and there isn't too much I'm really interested in. I hope the big October rollout has lots and lots of TDF pieces!!! :)

What's on your wishlist from the new arrivals? Any must have pieces for you? Have you already placed an order?

  1. FFM - I saw the Fifi cardigan in the b&m yesterday, I was not impressed at all.... especially with the ruffles, they look like they would fray very easily. I'd rather spend $118 on something else! That being said, loving the blue tweed sapphire skirt & the bright blue perfect pencil skirt... I ordered them both! Also lusting after the patent Campo... I love patent anything!

  2. These are all lovely skirts FFM. The first skirt is on my list too along with the black/white tweed. I didn't realize the tweed was so thick though. Maybe it will work better in my cooler climate. Do you know if that bright blue is similar to the blue of last year's serge pencil skirt?

  3. Great picks, FFM! I love the bright blue Perfect Pencil skirt. What are your styling ideas for this one? It seems an odd color to roll-out in the fall and winter, but paired with the right colors and accessories I'm sure it'll be lovely. Can't wait to hear your ideas :)

  5. I really like the Pencil skirts and Loving the Bright Blue color. I wonder if JC will move to a more saturated color palette for the Holiday rollout. One can hope.

All I wanted was the Jaspe Hoodie, so casual but it is something I will wear with my tees and jeans.

  6. I love the perfect pencil skirt in bright blue. I think it will look great with neutral colors on top. I already have it in plum but may consider the blue. Great choices!

  7. I sort of want the bright blue skirt too, even though I totally don't need it.

As far as length, I am 5'9", I have the skirt in pearl gray, and I don't find it short at all! I hits right at the knee and is the same length as my double serge pencil skirts from last fall. Was the length issue specific to the bright blue color?

  8. And by "I hits" I mean "It hits"!

  9. I tried on the black and white skirt yesterday. It fits really cute, but is definitely on the shorter side. It also runs rather small because I could wear the regular size without going over to petites...just so you know! :)

  10. I really liked all your selections FFM! :) Especially the Deco Shirred Skirt. I too am curious about the length. Hopefully my local stores will carry it so I can try it on in person. :) Is it bad that I can't wait for the next roll-out in October? ;)

  11. I tried the Fifi cardigan on yesterday and was not a fan at all ..... seeing it in person I liked but on it just looked funny on me with the ruffles, they made my hips look bigger. I LOVE all the skirts you posted though!!

  13. Hello Ladies! Thank you so much for your comments and for sharing your wishlist items with me!

ABC: I tried on the Perfect Pencil Skirt in Black at my B&M and I love it. I think this skirt is probably a bit lighter weight than the double serge. I never tried on the double serge skirt, but other JCAs compared the fabric to the Maggie jackets which I do have, and the fabric on this skirt is definitely lighter weight. The color does however to be almost the same (at least online). :)

Em: I think the Bright Blue pencil should be fine in length. The Deco skirt is the one that JCAs are reporting as being really short.

Too bad about the Fifi cardigan! It does look as if it has potential to be a real hot mess, so I'm not surprised to hear the reviews about it being disappointing IRL.

Thank you all again for stopping by and leaving your comments...I truly appreciate it!

    Have a wonderful afternoon/evening! :)

  14. Hi FFM, I love your wishlist. I purchased the beaded ribbon-front top but I might go back to try the deco skirt (they put it up in the window and it is stunning, plus I have a white short coat that would go so well with it).
I'm on the fence re. the blue perfect skirt: I have the dusty blossom and I love the blue color in itself but I would appreciate to see some color and shoes pairing suggestions (thinking cold weather). Let us know what you get. TIA!

  15. I ordered the blue pencil yesterday since I love the plum and gray so much. I am not sure how I will wear it yet, or if I will even like the color in person, but I want to see it IRL.

I thought the Fifi cardigan looked terrible and I didn't even try it. I purchased the Carolyn cardi last Friday and have am much more impressed with its quality.

If you are still drooling over tweed, BR just added a nice black and white pencil that looks like it would be a great weight for here in Florida.

I think we are about the same height/weight as we seem to get the same sizes. At 5'4", the black and white silk skirt was hopeless on me. I tried both it and the shirred wool and had the same issues with both. A 4 sits right at the waist and fits nicely, but is far too short even with tights. If I size up to a 6, it is too loose and will not settle around the hip as the waistband has a very straight shape rides back up toward my waist. I think the production skirts in both the wool and silk are much shorter than the sample ones J Crew has in their pictures.

Let us know what you end up getting.

  16. By the way, the weight of the double serge may vary by color, as the gray one I just purchased is a perfect match in color and weight to my Maggie from last year. I don't think I will end up wearing it as a suit, but they could have been cut from the same piece of cloth.

I do think my Maggies are different weights as the heathered berry and gray feel heavier (more plush) than the solids.

  17. I HAD to get the Deco Shirred Skirt! The cut just works so well for me- not too *poufy* like most of their skirts are on me!!! It runs on the small size- I had to size-up, which helped w/ the length! I didn't mind the length & I am 5'8" but I do have shorter legs!?!

Let us know what you think of it once you try it! I ALMOST left it behind because I didn't know if I wanted to spend $98 on a 'skirt' but the SAs said they suspect it to be a *hot* item that will probably sell out quickly!! That may just be a sales-pitch though!?! But I guess it worked on me ;)

  18. FFM, I tried the Fifi cardi, but it was a no-go on me. I also tried on the black/grey tweed skirt, you're right, it's very thick, and LONG. I am 5'6" and it hit below my knee, not a good look IMO. It felt matronly.

So that was too long, the deco shirred was too short.... go figure.

I love the bright blue skirt you have your eye on. Would love a review of that.

I also have my eye on the black plum lg campo, the ribbon front top, and the collegiate cardi.

  20. FFM, i like the Perfect Pencil skirt too. I don't think there is a color i don't like. :)

I tried on the Deco skirt and didn't like it at all. It was overall too short, and because i'm not pencil thin, it emphasized the back and sat lower in the front than the back. In a larger size, it was just too big and sat too low. Also, i felt as i was trying to return to my teenage years due to its length, the shirring, and its fullness. I did pick up the cardigan in this pattern, and love it.

I saw the Fifi cardigan and didn't care for it. The ruffle detail looked unkept, not refined.

I purchased the Oona skirt, but am reconsidering. I will try it on again to make sure it doesn't add pounds to my hips. :) The fabric is quite substantial, which is what i like about it. I'm wondering if a more fitted look is appropriate because of the fabric. This way it doesn't appear heavy.

The patent Campo bag is definitely on my wish list and i'd love to see the Sapphire Tweed pencil skirt.

  21. I had a 20% off and ordered the sapphire tweed yesterday. I hope it's not a heavy tweed since I also live in a warmer climate. I bought the bright blue skirt last year and returned it! I did not find it easy to pair with different things, it was too challenging for me to style. Lovely in theory, just not practical in my closet. The black/white print skirt was way too short for me. I'm 5'7", it was at least 1/2 way up my thigh. The Fifi cardigan has most of its ruffles right at hip level which I did not find flattering. The varsity cardi is cute!

  24. FFM, I just received the Sapphire Tweed Pencil Skirt, and i must say i love the color, the texture, and the way the fabric falls. It's a deep, deep blue, almost black, interlocked with thick blue threads and flecks of white.

I expected it to be more like the Oona tweed skirt, but it's lighter weight, a bit more refined. It's true to size, and the length is just past my knee. (I'll need to get it hemmed once i decide on a size -- i could probably go for a larger size, but then the waist would be too big.) My only reservation about this skirt is the price. Perhaps it's the subtle detail of the texture, but i think it's overpriced. And while the Oona may not appeal to everyone, i like the added warmth of the alpaca.

Still, the sapphire tweed skirt is very likely a keeper.

  25. I received the Sapphire Pencil Skirt yesterday, and I agree with Cleo26. The fabric is much lighter than the Ona, not nearly as bulky. The fabric is beautiful. I'm also on the fence because of the price, but I love the blue streaks through the fabric. I will say that the skirt was much darker than I expected it to be from the pictures on the website. I think it's almost black, with blue woven in. I thought it would be a lighter navy. I live in Alabama, and I think the skirt will be perfect weight for October to about March.

  26. Cleo and meaghan: Congratulations on getting the Sapphire Tweed skirt and thank you both so much for your reviews of it! It sounds to be closer to the weight of the Sparkle Plaid Tweed Pencil skirt from last year, which means it would be great for Florida. I just may have to order it to at least see it IRL after hearing how much you both love it. I agree the price is a real deterrent to keeping it though...not exactly in my budget right now, unfortunately. I wonder if it will be around for markdowns? That would be fantastic! :)

  27. is the deco skirt really 18 inches long? I am 5'6 and am a little worried about the length because I usually wear a 0 in J.Crew bottoms. Thanks!

  28. Bought the last Fifi cardigan at my b&m and I love it. It's different and adds a little sass :)
