New Arrival: Moon Asymmetrical Zip Cardigan

There is a new arrival at the J.Crew Brick and Mortar store that is currently not available online. It is called the *Moon Asymmetrical Zip Cardigan*, item #20609, and retails for $148. It is 55% Wool, 30% Nylon, 15% Cashmere, very soft to the touch, and the weight is very substantial as well. The length is about the same as the Jackie cardigans and the color code is HFO...not sure what that stands for, but I would describe the color as cream/off white/snow. Here are a few pics:

The buttons on the small pockets are brown:

This was selling out fast at my store...there was only one size Small when I left yesterday morning. Perhaps it will go online with the rest of the new arrivals next week?

What are your thoughts? Are you planning to look for it, or is it a *pass* for you?

  1. I actually just saw it in my local B&M 2 days ago, and they only had two left (1 M, 1 L). I thought it looked cute, but not cute enough for $148. Also, I thought it was a little too thick for my liking, since I usually like thinner sweaters. But, if I were to wear a thicker sweater, I prefer them to be longer to off set some top heaviness. I thought it was too short in this thickness for me. Thanks for posting the name and pic FFM!

  2. Ooh, very nice. I can see you wearing this in the evening in the winter down in Florida. I guess this would be your winter "coat." :)

I will have to see it in person to see if it would work for me, but so far it looks very pretty!!! Thank you!

  3. Looks cute, but in general I'm not a big fan of the asymmetrical look (not sure why). For some reason, I like things centered :)

  4. Hi love2shop4bags and Dina! Thank you both for stopping by. :)

love2shop4bags: Maybe they'll offer one in this weight but with a longer length. That would be really great. :)

dina: Yes, this is definitely nice for Florida. I don't think it's warm enough to use as a winter coat (even in Florida), but it would be nice to wear on chilly days when the temps are in the 60's or so. :)

  6. Thanks so much for posting the photos! I've been wondering what people were talking about. I agree that a longer length would be better. And I'm not sure how I feel about the exposed zipper... But I love the weight of it, along with the pockets. Cute! :)

  7. Thanks for posting the pic, this sweater design is unique I like the zipper, but why did they have to put wool in it? I am allergic to wool with the exception of merino and cashmere.

  8. It's cute, but I am not sure about the pockets. Are there actual pockets, or are those just non-functional flaps? I'd have to see them in person and see where they lie on my torso.

HFO, hmm... heathered fossil? Although it looks more snow/ivory than silver. heathered faded opal? heathered frosted oat? lol.

  11. You are very welcome cinnamonruffles and casual-crew! :)

tastymoog: They aren't *real* pockets, unfortunately. I love all your color ideas, btw!

I think this is one you definitely need to try on before making a decision. It will fit everyone differently so some will love it and some will not like it at all. ;)

cdp: I love your outfit idea! Absolutely gorgeous! :)

  13. It looks really intriguing! I like the collar and the way it has an off-center zip. I'll have to check it out in stores! Hopefully, it's still there when I visit my J.Crew.

  14. Thanks for posting the pictures. It is nice to see things IRL b/c I don't have a store that I can get too. This is a pass for me. Not a fan of the asymmetrical zip. I think one either likes it or not.
Glad to see they are coming out with heavy sweaters though.

  16. My guess on the color abbreviation is "Heathered Fog," though it's just a guess!

  18. This is a pass for me....for some reason, I'm not likin' the zipper. I have so many sweaters with the same shawl neckline....picked up a very nice teal Calvin Klein one at Marshall's the other day for less than $30.

  19. I do like the look of this sweater but I definitely don't like the $$$! I will check it out IRL though- if it's not already sold-out! ;)

    Thanks for sharing FFM!

  20. Thanks for posting pictures of this as I didn't see it at my B&M. I think it will also look lovely with wool pencil skirts and boots. I wish it had pockets though. I have a camel color sweater from Armani Exchange few years ago that has similar asymmetrical zip along the front side. I like this one for the shawl collar. Cute!

  21. Thank you for all the comments everyone! This is definitely one of those sweaters you actually have to try on in order to see if it works for you or not. I picture it with a brown turtleneck, jeans, and my Frye look alike boots. I have to say I am still undecided on it and need to put together several different looks with it before making a final decision. :)

  26. I couldn't figure what HFO is either. It's a beautiful piece. Glad you know the name. I added it to my post that I set up for it.

I'll bet this looks fantastic on you. :-)

  28. I love this cardigan. I am a sucker for chunky zippers (especially placed asymmetrical) and big buttons. Thanks for letting us know to look out for it

  29. I saw this in my local store and really like it, however I can't really wear this color, so I'm hoping that it comes in more colors in the future. Perhaps if/when it appears online?
