Inspiration: Success

Success is doing the best you can
With every task and every plan.

Success is speaking words of praise
And cheering other people's ways.

It's silence when your speech would hurt,
Politeness when your neighbor's curt.

It's deafness when the scandal flows
And sympathy with another's woes.

It's loyalty when duty calls
And courage when disaster falls.

It's politeness when the hours are long,
It's found in laughter and in song.

It's in the silent time of prayer
And in happiness and in despair.

In all of life and nothing less
We find the thing we call success!

J.Crew Tiered Ruffle Tank Alternative from Express

The Fall '09 Lookbook from J.Crew has a picture of the Tiered Ruffled Tank which is due out in September and currently available on preorder for $88.

I recently found a less expensive alternative at Express called the DREAMWEIGHT COTTON TIERED RUFFLE SCOOP-NECK TOP seen here on Express.com. I ordered the size Small in Black and the Indigo Print seen here . When the Express tanks arrived I have to say I was really pleasantly surprised. The tanks are a decent quality, and the fabric is soft to the touch, a 52%Cotton/48%Modal blend that reminds me a lot of the Ringspun Cotton at J.Crew. They are normally priced at $29.50 each, but right now they are on Buy One Get One Free sale, so you can get 2 for that price. I took a couple of RL photos so you can see how it looks on.
I tried to take a decent side view so you can see that the ruffle tiers go all the way around the tank.

It can easily be worn under a blazer or cardigan, too. Here it is with the Donegal Tweed Blazer:

So, what do you think...a decent alternative?

Wearing Today: I am wearing the dress at the shorter *swing dress* length. I only have on one necklace, but I'm wearing it doubled.

Btw...I have found another less expensive alternative for one of the upcoming J.Crew Fall tops. I will be posting about it later today with RL pics. :)

Wearing Today...a dear friend of mine watched my boys while I ran some errands and had some *alone* time. :)

This is the *Havona Casual* set updated with the Jackie Cardigan in Honey Glaze. I removed the flower from the neck of the Havona and wore it on my handbag instead. The pants are rolled and I added a gold metallic belt, too. :)

Champagne, Roses, and Pearls

The Jackie Cardigan in Champagne looks really pretty with the ATL Rose tee...almost a perfect match. :)

Jackie Sparkle

The Sparkling Rose tee is very pretty IRL and actually has color in it close to the Desert Brown Jackie Cardigan...love the grey and brown color combination. This is how I will wear it this Fall...now I just need the bag. :)

*My jeans are from Gap.

7.16.09: Wearing Today...Gap Straight Khaki Trousers *IRL Pics*

7.16.09
7.16.09 by FFM featuring J Crew

I took my son to Occupational Therapy early this morning, ran into the market for a couple of items, and have to spend the rest of the day at home waiting for the cable repair man. So, today's outfit is very basic...chinos, polo, and flip flops. Not really picture worthy by any means, but I did take a couple just to show the Gap Straight Khaki Trousers that are my personal substitute for the J.Crew Boyfriend Chinos. I really like this pair a lot better than the J.Crew version and they cost a lot less, especially since mine were purchased during the last promotion they had and was combined with another 10% off code they had sent me. I am wearing silver accessories with the outfit because the flip flops have navy, pink, and an ice blue/silvery grey ribbon detailing and the silver of my belt and jewelry compliments them really well. The color of the khakis I have on is called Mission Tan and it's similar in color to the J.Crew boyfriend chinos in light khaki...maybe a tad darker. They also come in Optic White, Blue Slate, and Pearl Grey seen here
. The price gets reduced every so often, but now all colors except for Optic White are at full price. When I purchased mine they were at a promo of $39.50 with the additional discounts taken on top of that. :)

I took a pic of them unrolled to show the regular length on me (sorry for the wrinkling...I had been wearing them rolled all morning), which is perfect for wearing flats, sandals, or flip flops. I would have purchased the Long length if I had planned to wear them with heels, though.

On another semi-related note: THANK YOU to Marietta for posting that BR is offering an extra 25% off to cardholders today through the July 19th. The 25% is good on any purchase at BR when you use your BR, Gap, or Old Navy card. :)

Btw...I realized as I was going out the door that I have on colors similar to a lot of school uniforms (at least where we live)...too funny! Oh well...I love Navy and Tan together, so I'm not letting that deter me from wearing them. ;) Have a beautiful and blessed day! :)

Forever 21 Shirley Lace Bow Top *IRL pics*

As many of you may already know, J.Crew is offering the Tiered Lace Cami seen here which retails for $795.00.
Since most of us cannot afford that price, but do like the look of the cami, many of us have been on a quest to find a similar less expensive alternative...myself included. So...I recently ordered the Shirley Lace Bow Top from Forever 21 after I saw Drewablank blog about it at the end of June: Highway Robbery via Lace , and also on the F21 website seen here .

Details from the F21 website:
-Shirley Lace Bow Top
-Retails for: $15.80
-Sleeveless top featuring a beautiful lace overlay with a full satin lining. Other features include a round neckline followed by two grosgrain ribbon accents, a lace tiered construction, and a finished bottom hem.
- 22" approx length from shoulder to hem
- 100% nylon, lining 100% polyester; Hand wash cold
- Imported

It comes in Small, Medium, and Large however the Small is currently sold out online. I ordered the Medium after looking at the size chart, but could have also taken a small. In my opinion the medium gives more of a *slouchy* feel like I think the J.Crew cami appears to have. The cami is fully lined, the lace is not scratchy, and the top is comfortable overall. I easily removed the bows without any damage to the lace and really like the look of it better this way. It is a little shorter than the J.Crew cami and doesn't have the rows of lace toward the bottom, either. The color is called Taupe, but I would describe it more as Ivory with pink undertones. I styled a couple of Polyvore sets with it and also took some IRL pics to give you an idea of how it looks on.

With the J.Crew Donegal Tweed blazer...

I belted it with a J.Crew skinny belt in Blanched Almond and think it would look even better with a silk ribbon belt tied with a bow like in the pic online.

Here it is with the Linen Holly jacket..
.

With the Gap Perfect Trouser in Taupe...

With the J.Crew Chiffon Pleated Cardigan...

All in all, I would say it is not bad for under $16, and seems to be fairly versatile, too. What do you think of the Shirley Lace Top? Have you seen it IRL? Do you already own it? I would love to hear your thoughts...

More of the Linen Holly Jacket...

For the above look, the jacket can either be worn open with the belt or buttoned up and then the belt is optional. It looks really pretty with basic khaki on the bottom and the Watson pants can easily be replaced with khaki pants or skirt of your choice.

Georgia and Paisley

Denim and Paisley

Inspiration: Rainbows

Once upon a time
the colors of the world started to quarrel.
All claimed that they were the best;
the most important,
the most useful,
the favorite

GREEN said:
"Clearly I am the most important. I am the sign of life and of hope. I was chosen for grass, trees and leaves. Without me, all animals would die. Look over the countryside and you will see that I am in the majority."

BLUE interrupted:
"You only think about the earth, but consider the sky and the sea. It is the water that is the basis of life and drawn up by the clouds from the deep sea. The sky gives space and peace and serenity. Without my peace, you would all be nothing."

YELLOW chuckled:
"You are all so serious. I bring laughter, gaiety, and warmth into the world. The sun is yellow, the moon is yellow, the stars are yellow.
Every time you look at a sunflower, the whole world starts to smile. Without me there would be no fun."

ORANGE started next to blow her trumpet:
"I am the color of health and strength. I may be scarce, but I am precious, for I serve the needs of human life. I carry the most important
vitamins. Think of carrots, pumpkins, oranges, mangoes, and papayas. I don't hang around all the time, but when I fill the sky at sunrise or
sunset, my beauty is so striking that no one gives another thought to any of you."

RED could stand it no longer, he shouted out:
"I am the ruler of all of you. I am blood - life's blood! I bring fire into the blood. I am willing to fight for a cause. I am the color of danger and of bravery. Without me, the earth would be as empty as the moon. I am the color of passion and of love, the red rose, the poinsettia and the poppy."

PURPLE rose up to his full height:
He was very tall and spoke with great pomp: "I am the color of royalty and power. Kings, chiefs, and bishops have always chosen me, for I am
the sign of authority and wisdom. People do not question me! They listen and obey."

Finally INDIGO spoke,
much more quietly than all the others,
but with just as much determination: "Think of me. I am the color of silence. You hardly notice me, but without me you all become superficial. I represent thought and reflection, twilight and deep water. You need me for balance and contrast, for prayer and inner peace."

So the colors went on boasting, each convinced of his or her own superiority. Their quarreling became louder and louder. Suddenly there was a startling flash of bright lightening.

Thunder rolled and boomed. Rain started to pour down relentlessly.
The colors crouched down in fear, drawing close to one another for comfort.
In the midst of the clamor, rain began to speak: "You foolish colors, fighting amongst yourselves, each trying to dominate the rest.

Don't you know that you were each made for a special purpose, unique and different? Join hands with one another and come to me."
Doing as they were told, the colors united and joined hands.

The rain continued:
"From now on, when it rains, each of you will stretch across the sky in a great bow of color as a reminder that you can all live in peace.
The Rainbow is a sign of hope for tomorrow."

And so, whenever a good rain washes the world,
and a Rainbow appears in the sky,
let us remember to appreciate one another.
