You Look Very Familiar...Have I Seen You Some Place Before?

Hello Everyone! Today is Tuesday, and that means it's time for another *You Look Very Familiar...Have I Seen You Some Place Before?* post. This week is the Nordstrom Edition, so here we go:

J.Crew Contrast Stitch Perfect Shirt:

  • Are those muted colors not working for you? How about the Drape Neck Silk Top as a more colorful option?

Do you like the J.Crew Long Boyfriend Blazer but need a less expensive, yet familiar/similar alternative?

J.Crew Cleo Platform Sandal

What do you think about the pieces from Nordstrom? Have you seen any of them IRL? Do you own any? If not, would you consider purchasing any of them? Please feel free to comment. :)

If you missed any of the previous *You Look Very Familiar...Have I Seen You Some Place Before?* posts, you can see them here, here, and here.

  1. I picked up a shirt similar to the first shirt....the blue one from JCrew. I got it at Target. I think the brand may be Converse?

  2. Thanks for the post, FFM. I am a regular reader of your blog, but feel the need to take time to comment on this one... I immediately noticed that the Cleo was a complete knock-off of the Kork-ease sandal that has been around for ages. And I remember looking at a Nine West knock-off on clearance at the NW store a couple years ago for $20 that I'm now kicking myself for not buying. I love that these are in style again b/c it proves they are a classic and this is a style that gives height while still being super comfy, but why would I order JCrew if I can get the original Kork-ease for a lower price! Endless and Zappos even have some at a sale price right now, if I only they had my size. : (

  3. First, I just want to say that I love your new Tuesday topic - it's amazing how many similar items to JCrew there is out there. I have been organizing and cleaning closets as time allows over the past few weeks (with uncountable numbers of garbage bags of clothes going to Goodwill) and have come to the realization that most of the clothes I wear come from JCrew. Even similar items aren't making the cut. I thought I had found a new friend in Loft, but have only worn the sequin tanks (to death) and cashmere v-necks purchased last month. I do have Target and Old Navy purchases that make the rotation but they are mostly basics. It seems that slowly my wardrobe has been taken over by JCrew and other brands from dept. stores and TJMaxx etc. have been pushed out. A friend of mine made the same observation. Is it the colors? The styling? Too much Crewlade? Do you find mostly JCrew in the closets of your clients? My family thinks it's hysterical that I get up at 4:30 am to 'shop' :-)

  4. I picked up a boyfriend blazer at Target for $29.99. IMO it's a better quality then J. Crew's. Sadly, when I tried on the J.Crew boyfriend blazer I thought it was poorly made. Only the sleeves are lined.

  5. Oh, and about the Cleo. We used to wear the EXACT shoe back in the day (think late 70s early 80s) and think we were so cool. They were called 'Buffalo' shoes and every teenage girl had them. I lived in Florida at the time, and my Mom took me to a store similar to a Payless to get them for me after I begged for a month. Olivia Newton-John was on the radio; funny how we have these random clear memories . . .age and hormones trigger them I guess ;0

  7. Whoa, that's pretty insane how you found all those J.Crew lookalikes! I own a shirt similar to J.Crew's perfect shirt, but it's from GAP. Then again, the shirt is pretty basic...

  8. Good Morning Ladies! Thank you so much for stopping by to share your thoughts. I apologize for my delay in responding. I'm in the process of getting ready to leave for a trip to Indiana early tomorrow morning and things are a little hectic right now. ;)

Elizabeth: Great find! I think I know the shirt you're talking about. Is it this one?

Anon@9:27: Thank you so much for commenting. :) J.Crew definitely *copies* ideas from other retailers/designers/brands, and on a regular basis, too. I'm surprised it took them so long to start offering wedges and platforms since they've been *in* for awhile now. I agree with you about the style giving height while being super comfy. Most of the shoes I wear on a regular basis have a wedge heel...I just love the look. Thanks for the heads up about the KorkEase styles on sale. 6pm.com has some, too. :)

  9. McShoppy: Thank you! I'm glad you're enjoying this Tuesday post and appreciate you stopping by to comment. I must say that the majority of my wardrobe at this point in time is J.Crew, and it is indeed the same for my clients. I do know for myself, though, that if I pull myself out of the *J.Crew Haze* and once again give a good look at other retailers, I can always find pieces I like just as much. I think a lot of the overabundance of J.Crew comes from drinking too much Crewlade since there are SO many similar items out there. ;)

  10. Julie: Congrats on your blazer from Target! :) I picked one up online at Old Navy several months ago and love it. I also have a longer version from Kohl's made by *ELLE* and it is fabulous, as well...in fact, I'm wearing it tomorrow for my trip. :) Thanks for stopping by!
