Animal Instinct

This is a set I styled recently featuring the J.Crew Vintage Zebra-stripe mini. The skirt is so cute paired with the ON Twill Cargo Zip Jacket in Rawhide (which I highly recommend btw), a simple tee, fab jewelry, and a great pair of sandals. :)

The Details:

Old Navy Twill Cargo Zip Jacket in Rawhide. Similar here and here.

J.Crew *Doggie Tee* from '09, similar here and here.

Monet Gold Hoop Earrings purchased at Macy's (not available online), similar here and here.

Ann Taylor Chain and Jewel Tiered Necklace, similar here and here.

Aviator Sunglasses, similar here and here.

J.Crew Large Metallic Gallery Hobo in Pale Gold, similar here.

Jack Rogers "Navajo" Thong Sandal, similar here.

  1. This is darling. I just got the little zebra skirt, and I love it. I got a moroccan spice tee to pair with it....

I am wondering, since you are one of my 'go to' blogs for inspiration.... What are your thoughts on the tweed contessa jacket? It's double breasted-ness is throwing me for a loop. Would I really just let it hang open? Did you buy it? Trying to decide if I should take the plunge..... (and it has no zippers!!! a big plus ;) )

  2. Thanks Chic! :)

Oh the Tweed Contessa...I contemplated that one as well, but ended up not *going for it*, even with the extra 30% off. For me it's an issue of the weather here now because I wouldn't have much of a chance to wear it, if at all, which means it would have to hang around until next year. (Plus I'm focusing on spring and summer purchases now instead of more jackets and coats.)
    :)

As for it being double-breasted: I tend to avoid a jacket that is double breasted, unless I'm wearing it as a true coat, because I don't feel they look right on me when worn open.

Will you have much of a chance to still wear it this year? What will your Cost per Wear ending up being on it, even with the sale price? Do you ABSOLUTELY LOVE it for the current selling price?

  3. Thank you for that sound advice! I think I will hold off..... But if the extra 30 comes along again..... look out :) It is the tweed that is getting me.....

Now I have moved on to eyeing your fave - the boyfriend jacket on the Give and Get sale at the Gap. :) I'd better get off the internet and into some housework!

  4. That zebra print skirt is adorable!

I bought the Old Navy jacket in gray, khaki and the light olive green color. Kept looking at the Rawhide color but I was expecting it to be more olive from the photos but in person, it looked brown. I wasn't sure if I would wear that color in the Spring but I kind of wish I would have gotten it. I was in Banana Republic and the Old Navy jacket is almost an exact copy.

  6. I'm going to order this jacket...looks just like the BR one. I had bought the JCrew lieutenant jacket but didn't think it was worth FP since there are jackets like this one that's so similar.
That two dog tee is one of my favorite!

  8. I just LOVE this set, FFM! Can you tell me how you find the sizing on that ON jacket? And do you own those Jack Rogers sandals, too? I've been eyeing them for years but was afraid the thong would be uncomfortable. Whatcha think? They're certainly classics!!!

  9. Love your blog and this outfit. I am blown away that Target came out with Jack Rogers knock-offs! Where were these 2 years ago when I had to splurge on the real thing!?! I live in mine in the summer and am so afraid of wearing them out! Now I can get a back up pair from Target! Thanks FFM!

  10. The Chic Chauffeur - I wore the contessa jacket yesterday. I wore it both unbuttoned and buttoned at various points during the day. It works fine in either case. FYI about the tweed, it's not a wool tweed texture in the traditional sense. It feels more like textured cotton canvas and I guess the print is what's tweed about it.

FFM - Another cute poly. Thanks for sharing. :-)

  12. baseballmom94: Congrats on your ON jackets! I just ordered the Grey one today...can't wait to get it! Thank you for stopping by! :)

    Coley: THANK YOU! :)

jcrewphd: The ON jacket is fabulous...I'm sure you'll like it. :)

    Angie: Thank you! :)

Hi JCAUNCMom! I found the ON jacket to be a bit snug in the arms and shoulders so I went with the Small over the XSmall. (I seem to be one of those 2 sizes at ON lately, usually more of the XSmall though). I actually ordered both the XS and Small just to be on the safe side and make sure I didn't miss out on it. If it's possible for you to do, I would suggest ordering 2 sizes to be sure, as well. :) As for the Jack Rogers...I don't have a *real* pair yet, but I do own the ones from Target and they are great. I almost bought a pair of the originals from Piperlime last year (at sale price) but hesitated and missed out on my size, so now the pair from Target are my stand-ins. I have read wonderful reviews about the true Jack Rogers though...seems they are definitely worth the money. HTH!

Thank you Erika and Gigi! :)
