Takin' It to the Max

Hello Everyone! I hope you are having a FABULOUS Friday! This post is the first of several that will feature Maxi Dresses. I know that they aren't for everyone, but there are some that do like them and others that are on the fence about trying them, thus the reason for my post. I happen to love them and actually own several. They are perfect for the warm Florida climate and casual way of dressing that is very prevalent during the warmer months.

I found this first Maxi Dress at Forever 21 when I stopped in quickly last week, but haven't seen it available on the F21 website. It's a Blue and Cream Silk *Tube* Maxi that retails for $32.80. The fabric is lovely 100% silk that drapes beautifully over the body, and feels nice on the skin, although it is fairly sheer, so wearing a slip underneath it is best. The dress also looks really cute with a cardigan worn over it, such as this one from J.Crew. Btw, the necklace I have on is the Chain and Jewel Tiered Necklace from Ann Taylor.

Tube style maxi dresses are in abundance this year, so if you like the look there are numerous options to choose from such as this dress and this dress from Old Navy (15% off promo still good today with code ONSPRING at checkout). This one from Gabriella Rocha and this one that I think is so lovely from Maj Hyacinth.

This next dress is the Tribal Maxi Tube Dress in the Black/Cream combo (also from Forever 21). It's 100% Rayon, has a smocked waistband, ruffles along the bust, and retails for $14.50. It also comes in a Brown/Cream combination, as well.

I purchased this next one from Kohl's Junior department last October for around $6 off the clearance rack. It has turned out to be one of my favorites.

I often wear it with a black long boyfriend cardigan, silver sandals, and silver accessories, such as in this Polyvore that I styled last year. (The dress in this set was used to represent my dress since a pic of it wasn't available online.)

Ikat prints like on the dress from Kohl's and the Tribal maxi from F21 are a big trend for spring and summer, so there are sure to be numerous options available, such as this dress or this one.

I want to mention that Forever 21 has many other Maxi Dresses online and in their stores, as well.

*Fab Solid Maxi Dress...same style as the Tribal maxi.

What do you think about Maxi Dresses? Do you wear them? Are you contemplating it? I'd love to hear your thoughts. :)

Have a wonderful day!

xoxo,

  1. LOVE the last one from f21 and the kohls one! I'm never comfortable in the tube versions (real 34DD don't help) ;) But I'm all over any maxi dress that will hide my industrial bra straps! HA! ;)

  3. You look fab in your maxi dresses FFM! I am on the fence about wearing them on my own body, as I am only 5'4". Some styles that I tried on last season were overwhelming on my frame. But will def give some a try this season since they seem to be in abundance. Plus they are uber comfy!

  6. LOVE Maxi dresses! I found a few at ROSS last summer and wore them all the time. I think I need a few more this summer though - what do you think of the fabric on the F21 tribal print one? I'm tempted by the solid color versions :)

  7. Nice dresses!

I'm going to be in Orlando for memorial day weekend, do you think it will be too hot to wear cardis over maxi dresses?

    Thanks!

  8. You look great in both dresses, FFM. I'll have to give this style a try. Curious, do you wear a strapless bra with these dresses?

  9. I bought a maxi last summer (also at Kohl's, reduced). Have not worn it yet, so perhaps I will take some inspiration from you and try some different accessories with it.
    Thanks for the tips!

  11. Good Morning Ladies! Thank you all for stopping by to comment. I apologize for my late replies, but my 3-year old got hit in the face with a swing yesterday, so we had to make an emergency trip to the Pediatrician where he received 3 stitches. I must say that he was incredibly brave during the entire ordeal, too. Now back to the topic of this post:

Angie: Oh to have that problem...consider yourself lucky! :)

Tabitha: Thank you! :) I also feel very glamorous in maxi dresses. I know they must look gorgeous on you! :)

Erika: Thanks! I'm also 5'4" and actually find most maxi dresses to be the perfect length, especially to wear with flat sandals. I think they are great for our height. :)

Thank you Patina and Peggy! :)

    Hi Stacie!

  12. Hi Stacie! The fabric on the Tribal print maxi is very nice...not cheap feeling at all. It doesn't look or feel like a $15 dress at all. It looks like the solid version is the same, but with a touch of spandex added.

Pakcola: I wear cardigans all summer long, or at least always carry one with me because every place you go here is air-conditioned. You should definitely bring your cardigans to go over your maxi dresses. :)

Cleo: Thank you! I do wear a strapless bra...an underwire one, to be exact. I spend most of the summer in tank tops and never go braless, so the strapless versions are a staple. :)

Suzy Q and missmasala: THANK YOU! :)

  13. LOVE the dresses on you too - they are so simply chic and you can easily look pulled together. I have two kids and love having something with length since there is a lot of bending and such with kids.
I am with Angie - I have a 34D bust. Sounds nice but with real ones and after 2 kids they are not so cute and it takes a great bra to pick em up. So I am so happy they are finally making maxis that cover bra straps.
Although I do like the strapless I don't know if I could do it.

  14. I bought a brown linen blend maxi dress from Target last year and LOVE IT! Looks great with a turquoise necklace. I prefer dresses with straps as I don't have too much up front to hold up a strapless. :)

  15. Rachel: Thank you!

Baby Makes Three: Your linen blend maxi sounds fabulous, and I love brown and turquoise together, too.

Thank you both for stopping by!

Have a great weekend everyone! :)

  16. Thanks FFM!

People keep talking about how unbelievably hot/humid it will be so I'm not sure whats appropriate.

  17. Pakcola: It will definitely be hot and humid, but is usually pretty chilly when you're inside restaurants, stores, malls, etc. That's why I always carry a cardigan or lightweight jacket/blazer...you never know when you might need it. :)

Have fun on your trip! We're hoping to be on the West Coast at the beach condo that weekend.
