J.Crew: *Morocco* June 2008

Hello Everyone! I hope you are having a great day so far! I'm changing things up a bit this week, and instead of the normal Tuesday *You Look Very Familiar...Have I Seen You Before?" post, I thought it would be fun to take a look back at some older J.Crew images.

These pics are from the June 2008 catalog that was shot in Morocco. There were many beautiful pieces of clothing, jewelry, handbags, and shoes showcased in this one, along with simple, understated styling.

Do you remember the Morocco catalog? What do you think of the images in it? Did you purchase any of the clothing items offered back then? If so, do you still own them? Thank you for stopping by and sharing your thoughts. :)

Have a beautiful and blessed day!

xoxo,

  1. When I look at the photos it brings back fond memories of the JC of old. I did alot of purchasing back then, unfortunately the clothes no longer fit me when I lost weight I had to get rid of them.

  2. I also bought some of these fabulous items and unlike casual-crew, went in the opposite direction and gained weight! We should have just traded :) There are still pieces I hunt for on ebay.

  3. Ohhh Gosh--I just ADORED the MODEL VANESSA! one of my all time favorites! Beautiful pictures and clothes when Vanessa was modeling for them--seemed to be their peak!

  4. Thanks for sharing! This was before my obsession kicked into high gear :)I guess now they think I'm catalog-worthy, but not in '08!

  5. I love the simple styling of this catalog, as opposed to the over stylized layering we have today. Just simple and pretty! Thanks for sharing this catalog!

  6. It's frustrating seeing these old catalogs - I want to buy everything I see in them and I can't! I does serve as a good reminder to me to buy only what I love and what I feel will be worth my money - no items with poor fit or quality that I think is lacking.

J Crew - please come back!

  7. This was one of my favorite catalogs! Thanks for posting these, FFM! :)

From this season, I got the linen Antonia dress (in a flaxen/golden print that was retail only, I think), a linen ruffle cardigan (in a bright yello - citron, I think), the linen Casa Rossa Jacket, the Whisper Lame buttondown, and my aunt gave me a necklace she had made that she modeled after the beaded paisley necklace in coral. :)

  8. I've never seen this era being a newbie, now I see what everyone means about the change of direction, they are much more trendy and high st now, what a pity.

  9. This makes me sad! I miss the days of simple beauty, bright colors, classic shapes and easy styling. While I still love J Crew, I am kind of missing the old days.

  10. I'm fairly new to "J Crew Land", and seeing these images compared to the recent ones in their upcoming Fall catalog make me remember why I started loving J. Crew. Now, it's getting a little bit "out there" for me, as far as the styling. Wish they would head back in this direction. These shots are so inspiring.

  11. I have been shopping at j.crew since my teens and I am now in my mid 30's. I miss the j.crew of old. Almost everything they have put out over the past few years looks like an over-styled hot mess to me. I also think their quality is not as great as it used to be. I wish I would have ordered more from past seasons. I love everything pictured above!! Thanks for sharing :)

  12. I STILL have this catalog, and a couple of others from a year or more ago. I find myself still turning to them to create outfits from pieces I can purchase {often from other stores, like LOFT} today. I love the color combinations they used in the past...sometimes it's fun to see what I can come up with, but I feel like Kristin...it's also frustrating because I want to buy so many of the pieces in the old catalogs, and ebay can only deliver so much.

  13. Pretty photos -- but unlike everyone else, I remember this version of J. Crew, too, and it wouldn't get nearly as much of my money as current J. Crew. And seeing these pictures makes me realize why J. Crew is suddenly getting such a large portion of my disposable income -- they really have changed direction, and the current direction suits me better.

  14. Hi Ladies! Thank you all so much for stopping by to comment today! I'm glad that you enjoyed this look back at the *old* J.Crew. I have tons more catalogs from the past couple of years, and will post more pics from them in the upcoming weeks. As you may be able to tell from my scanned photos, these pages have been bent to bookmark my favorite looks and I still look through them fairly regularly. I am one who misses this version of J.Crew. Honestly, if I had known the direction they were going to go, I would have purchased more back then. I sadly also had to give up a lot of the pieces I owned after losing the baby weight I had gained with my last son...oh how I would love to have them back again (but in my present size).

I hope you all have a great week and thanks again for visiting! :)

  15. I had the catalog photo of the lime green Jessie blouse and chino shorts with white jacket on my inspiration board a long time that year! We need more colors! People dress more in bright colors in southern Spain/Morocco- maybe JC was inspired by that.

  16. Love those clear bright colors & classy blouses & camis in that catalog! Thanks for the inspiration, FFM!

Wish they had more of those items now instead of tees, ruffles & more tees & ruffles on same shirt -- it really getting old. Agree with the over-styling in current catalogs; would like to see less piled-on accessories. I mean, really, 3 necklaces and bracelets on both wrists in the summertime?!

  17. carol and Francesca: Thank you for stopping by! I agree that we need more colors and more pieces like J.Crew used to offer in general...it was such a great time to shop there, and I'm sad it has changed so much. I would love to see them return to offering these types of pieces, but I'm not holding my breath by any means. I wish they would at least start offering a *Vintage J.Crew* line. I know they would get a lot of business from numerous JCAs if they did...myself included.

  18. DARN!!! I was just on Pinterest (which didn't exist when this thread started!! Lol!!) and saw the photo of the Utility jacket on the guy and LOVED it and wanted to find out where it was from so I could get it from my husband!! So I did a "reverse image search" and the only place I found the photo (I thought I would find it on the JCrew website- I could at least see it was from JCrew) was here on your thread!!! : ( And it's from a catalog that is now 5 years old!! Funny that Utility jackets are so popular now! I too remember when J Crew had amazing quality clothes that you felt justified paying more for! Now not so much! Anyone on this thread happen to have the Utility jacket they would like to sell?
    Thanks, Danette : )
