Sunday Shopping: The Indigo-Stripe Schuyler Dress from J.Crew

Hi Everyone! I hope you are having an absolutely amazing weekend! This week's Sunday Shopping is a review for the Indigo-Stripe Schuyler Dress from J.Crew. The dress retails for $168 and comes in sizes 0-12.
The website describes the dress as: "A darling daytime piece that's as functional as it is flattering with artisanal-feeling woven indigo stripes. We engineered the sweet, feminine design—through seam and darting detailing, a deep V-neck at the front and back, a fitted bodice and a fuller pleated skirt—to highlight each special stripe. Linen. Sleeveless. Shift silhouette. Back zip. A-line skirt. On-seam pockets. Fully lined. Falls above knee. Import. Dry clean."

I pre-ordered this dress in sizes 0 and 2 (with the Extra 20% promo offered at the time) after seeing an image of it here on Slastena's blog. I loved the stripes and thought it looked like a great dress option for summer. Even though it looks really short on the model, I assumed it would be longer on me since I'm only 5'4", and I was right, but not by much. The dress is indeed still short on me, but not *indecently* short, at least.

The size 0 gives me the best fit through the waist, but it's too large in the bust (for reference I'm a 34B), so ladies with a larger chest will have a better fit in the dress than those of us who are not well-endowed. The dress is lined, has pockets (yay), and the quality appears to be decent. I really like the fabric, color, and striped pattern on the dress, but the silhouette is not a good one for my build, so unfortunately it went back.

Here it is on me in size 0:

Here's a closer view of the stripes and color:

If you like the shape and style of the Indigo-Stripe Schuyler but want it in a solid color, checkout its sister the Solid Schuyler Dress which is also currently on sale.

Some other striped dress options:

*Secret Treasure Dress...the stripes on this one are tonal and subtle. You can see it on me here.

Have a beautiful and blessed day!

  1. Well, I think it is lovely on you but I understand it had to go. Big through the bust on the size 0? I'm definitely sized right out of this dress with my 32A bustline. Too bad, it is so pretty!
I find the Solid Schuyler a bit roomy through the bust as well, it requires a heavily padded bra on me for sure, lol.

Thanks so much for the review, I've been looking forward to it!

  2. I think it looks really sweet on you too, I've been eyeing it up but as I'm older than all the JCA's put together, I'm not sure I can wear sticky out skirts - it's starting to jar a bit with an older face - eek!

  3. FFM, the dress looks nice on you, but i think there are other dresses which highlight your beautiful figure better. Thanks for the review.

  4. I also loved this dress in the solid color (after seeing it on DaniBP!) but being much larger than you, you can imagine the silhouette was even worse on me! I love the full skirt, but agree with Tabitha that the old face and young skirt don't mix! Of couse, daughter gave the NO, so even though I loved it, it had to go back. Seashell is my "fashion don't" barometer and she is right just about every time.

You look really nice in this one FFM!

  6. I don't think this is a good silhouette for many women. High waisted and full puffy skirt are hard to pull off and I closely associate this style with little girls. I think you do the dress justice, FFM. Your fabulous figure looks great in almost everything!

  7. I would love the Schuyler silhouette if it were just a couple of inches longer. I notice that the stripe looks shorter on the model than the solid, and of course JC doesn't put any useful information like skirt length in the item description! I think the dress looks great on you but no point keeping it if you don't love love love it.

  9. FFM, I happen to think it looks absolutely stunning on you! Maybe when it goes on sale? The proportions are so good for you beautiful lean body and the color is lovely with a pretty suntan you have.

  12. Ladies, thank you all so much for stopping by! I do really like the dress but just don't *love* it on me for the $$$. I think the Secret Treasure dress is a more flattering silhouette on me and that's why I chose it instead. I appreciate all your kinds words and input...have a great day! :)
