J.Crew: March 2008

Hello Everyone! I hope you're having a great day so far! I'm changing things up a bit again this week, and instead of the normal Tuesday *You Look Very Familiar...Have I Seen You Some Place Before?" post, I've scanned some more images from one of the older J.Crew catalogs to share with you...hope you enjoy them! :)
These images are from the March 2008 catalog. The first ten were shot at the Kaufmann Desert House in Palm Springs, CA. The cover pic above is one of my all-time favorites...I love the way it shows J.Crew as being for the entire family, no matter the age. I also love the styling, color palette, and choice of models they used back then, not to mention so many of the beautiful clothing pieces.

Do you remember this catalog? Do you own anything from it? I'd love to hear your thoughts...

Have a beautiful and blessed day!

xoxo,

  1. I remember this catalog, once again I am stuck how J Crew has changed. I used to order so much each month, now when I receive the catalog it goes to recycling after a quick glance through the pages.

  3. Oh, the good ole days! I actually have the Nautical Slub stripe dress in yellow shown on the first non-location page. I found it at the j.crew clearance center, thought it was cute, but had no idea what it was called or what season it was from! Good to know! Thanks for the pics :)

    Thanks for the pictures, FFM!

    Thanks for sharing FFM! :)

P.S. I am posting under the "Anonymous" feature to play it safe, because I don't know if your blog is experiencing the same registered user glitch like mine is. (Where registered user comments are not staying up.)

  7. Sigh. This was the J. Crew I used to love so dearly not the one with the bag lady styling. I have the python print jacket that I always get compliments on when I wear it and I wear it styled like it is in the catalogue.

  8. While I LOVE the clothes (and the house) in that cataloge, the family on the cover is just too pretentiously-perfect-to-be-real for me. Seriously, does anyone's family really look like that?

  9. I love J.Crew circa 2005-2008! I own the polka dot cardigan from this catalog as well as the flower-beaded belt. I missed out on the rugby skirt, and it's definitely on my "ones that got away" list. Thanks for posting this - I enjoy them!

  10. Thank you, Thank you! I love this catalog and somehow mine disappeared (mr. dina, how could you?)...

I am also a huge mid-century modern architecture aficianado, so I LOVE this catalog!

  11. I've got the Joelle cami in navy and the blouse in brown -- both colors that are in your pix! And the navy bermuda shorts. I loved that navy-navy outfit.

Love that Kelly sweater jacket. I have one kind of like it.

    thanks!

  12. These posts make me mourn for the JCrew that I loved. I have the python jacket and I wear it styled like it is in the catalogue. I get compliments on it whenever I wear it.I too wish I had done more shopping from JCrew then.

  13. Thanks for sharing. You know something is good, when you immediately start mentally picking out pieces in your closet and writing them down while looking at these pages. Maybe J Crew will eventually circle back around to this styling.

  14. This was one of my favorite catalogs ever! It's cool today. Maybe I'll look for the python jacket to wear. I was so happy when I found that on Ebay. *lol*

  15. oh, how i love those older catalogs. so fantastic and inspiring.

FFM, you wouldn't happen to have the August 08 Prague catalog, would you? and be willing to sell it...? :) that is the only one missing from my collection and it haunts me. no luck finding it on ebay!

  16. I remember that catalogue as well. I loved reading everyone's comments about the change in J. Crew. I've been wearing it forever and sadly have not been able to wrap myself around them (or in them) for the past few years. While I still pick up a piece here and there, it just doesn't do it for me like it used to.

  17. So fun!! Love it and I want a million things from this catalog - wish the current one looked like this :)

  18. See... that is the old J. Crew I really loved. I own many pieces from that collection.... too many. But, I still wear them and love them. I have gone on a T-Shirt ban! No more J. Crew T-shirts!

  19. Thank you FFM for posting this!!! This has so inspired me to shop the closet and pull out some of my favorites of 'yor - my rugby stripe skirt, fiona jacket, dylan cliff print cami, python print jacket... sigh... those were the days! :) and the house... to die for!

  20. I miss J. Crew. I don't even care if I go in when I'm shopping anymore. It used to be 90 percent of my wardrobe.

  21. Love this, thanks for taking the time to scan!!

  22. Wow! I forgot how fabulous J.Crew really was back then. Great art direction, clothing, models and locations. How things have changed. Thanks so much for scanning! I still love my Kelly sweater.

  23. Thank you FFM for reminding us of the "old" JCrew! It is difficult to get impressed by the recent catalogues with overaccessorized models in chambray shirts.

  24. I have the Joelle in the Papaya! :)

  25. I'm with you dinagideon - I loved this catalog not only because of the clothes but also the locale - maybe someday J Crew will shoot at Fallingwater :)
Why didn't I buy that Corinne sweater jacket? So many gorgeous things! I'm still wearing Joelle!

  26. I love this catalog and own the python print cami. Got it for a steal at $16. Thanks for letting me reminisce about the good 'ole J.Crew days.

  27. Thanks FFM for taking the time to share these wonderful pages. Yes it seems a far cry from what the current catalogs offer as far as models, styling, and quality goes.

I stumbled on this link for November 2008 catalog:

  28. Hi Ladies! Thank you all SO much for stopping by. I am really glad you've enjoyed seeing the old catalog pics, and I'll continue to post more over the next couple of months.

I do truly miss the days of the *older* J.Crew, and really wish they would return to them. Apparently they don't believe in the phrase *If it ain't broke, don't fix it*, since they went to messing everything up. Don't get me wrong, there are still pieces being offered that I do like, but there are much less of them now. Whereas I used to pretty much like almost everything.

mjbeet: I do have the Prague catalog. I'm not at home right now, but will check to see if I have an extra one when I get there later this week. If I have more than one you are welcome to have it, but if not I won't be able to offer it to you, since I am hanging onto all of them for my own collection. I'll post here about it either way. :)

Have a wonderful day everyone! :)

  29. I absolutely LOVE that you are posting pics from the older catalogs. i personally became a j. crew fanatic about a year ago after i had my first baby and nothing fit right anymore. so my catalogs only go back to june 2009 (and yes, ive kept all mine too!) I really enjoy seeing these older ones that i hadn't got a chance to see before. Thanks!

  30. Aahh, yes, this was the year, and the catalog that I really fell hard for JCrew. Owned a few pieces prior to this season, but this catalog, I wanted almost everything! The python print mini, primrose cardi, linen popover in sour lemon, joelle blouse... bought them all and dog-eared many more pages of clothing I wished I could buy but couldn't afford. Loved the clean, straightforward setting, simple, not overdone layers... wish they'd go back to this!

  31. I really love the stuff in this catalog, and wish J. Crew would go back to this sort of thing. I'd say that most may agree that J. Crew's clothes are much more geared towards women in their 20's, and now that I'm mid-30's, I feel like I can't wear most of their stuff (um...what's with all the short short skirts?) at work or even at play. Try bending over to pick up your baby when you're wearing one of those minis...yeah, not so good...

  32. FFM,

Thank you for posting these pics! This catalog is one of my favorites, and I had forgotten what month and year it was from. I LOVE the house featured and favor seeing the clothes on models in real life settings.

I'd love to see more from past catalogs.

  33. FFM, thank you so much for taking the time to post these pics. Although I, like everyone!, am aware of the dramatic changes in JC as of late, seeing this catalog puts everything in stark relief. I am not exaggerating when I say that I would wear anything and everything in the photos you posted. I was pregnant at the time and was not buying clothes, which I regret very much now (but who could have known, right?) I did manage to get the Kelly sweater jacket on popback that fall, but other than that, I don't own anything from this time period. Even the Fiona, which I thought was overdone at the time, would be a very welcome addition to my closet now. The clothes and styling are absolutely fantastic. Thanks for the inspiration. I haven't felt that feeling in a while re: JC!

  34. I actually have this catalog, but my version has a cover with the house instead of that family.
I bought the python lucia jacket simply because I loved the picture of the model. The print was not something I'd typically choose, but I actually love it.
I also have the purple joelle blouse.
    Ahh... the good old days!

  35. I love your older catalogue posts FFM!

Seriously, I could be happy in any of these outfits even now. They're so cute and timeless. This was J.Crew styling at it's best!

    Thanks for the post. :)

  37. Megha: I apologize for taking longer than I had planned to post about the catalog. The Prague catalog I have is from September 2008. I do have an extra if it's the one you're looking for. It does look a tad worn with the cover coming loose, but if that doesn't matter to you and you still want it, then you are welcome to have it. Just let me know. :)

  38. Does anyone have an extra March 2008 catalog. I love this one. Haven't seen it on ebay. My email is lamcheek@aol.com
