H is for Havaianas

Hello my Dear Readers! I hope you are having an absolutely FABULOUS week so far! Today I am sharing another excerpt from the book The One Hundred by Nina Garcia..."A Guide To The Pieces Every Stylish Woman Must Own." It shares the A-Z staples each woman should have in her wardrobe, and today we are continuing on with the letter H. :)

H is for Havaianas:

Ms. Garcia writes:

"In Brazil, Havaianas (pronounced ah-vai-YAH-nas) are a national treasure. They are so essential that they are sold in the supermarket right along with rice and beans. They are called the "democratic sandal", since everyone from the average citizen to the highest dignitary wears them. So in 2002, when Jean Paul Gaultier sent fifty models down the runway in Havaianas, Brazilians were not nearly as intruigued as the rest of us were. What was it about these flip-flops that made them runway worthy, we wanted to know. And why was every celebrity suddenly sporting a pair? And then we tried them on. And we loved them. I love them.
Sure, they are cute, but the great appeal of the Havaianas is how butter-soft they are. As soon as you put them on, you are not going to want to take them off. You realize what the obsession is all about, and you start justifying wearing flip-flops with just about anything."

"Happiness is owning an old pair of blue jeans and a new pair of Havainanas." --Anonymous--

Fashion 101: Flipping Out

"The original Havaianas (meaning "Hawaiians" in Portuguese) were inspired by the Zori, a Japanese straw sandal originally worn with kimonos. In 1962, shoemaker Sao Paulo Alpargatas took this idea and decided to make a rubber version, which would suit Brazil's climate better. In 2002, the company finally began exporting the sandals (though tourists had long been smuggling them out of Brazil in their suitcases and selling them in European boutiques).

FUN FACT: If all the Havaianas in the world were laid out end to end, they would go around the world fifty times."

(All information above is from the book)

If you've followed my blog for a while, you will know that I am a big fan of Havaianas and own several pair of them. As Ms. Garcia mentioned, they are very cute and extremely comfortable to wear. Here's a Polyvore set I posted  a little while ago showing an outfit I wear with my Grey Crystal Flower pair:

The Details:

The top in the outfit is the Apt. 9® Embellished Cityscape Top from Kohl's, and I love it. The fabric is soft, comfortable, and a substantial weight. You can't see it in the picture, but there are little silver nailhead accents that give the tee a touch of extra sparkle and shine, too. I ordered the size small in the top and it fits nicely. (You also may notice the top from this post as the Tory Burch *familiar find*.)

My jeans are the AG Tomboy Crops in *Runner* that I wear uncuffed. These were another fantastic sale purchase and well-worth the price. They are extremely flattering, well made, and comfortable to boot. (I actually sized down one size in these in case you're considering them.)

I purchased my Black/Silver/Grey beaded hoop earrings a while ago at Target, so they're definitely sold out now, but you can find a similar pair here.

The bracelet is from ISAACMIZRAHILIVE. It's the Hammered Crystal Accent StretchBracelet in Silvertone (the website won't let me save the picture, so the bracelet in the set is a stand in.) This one is very pretty IRL, more so than the online picture, plus it's lightweight and comfortable to wear.

My handbag is by Charm and Luck in Metallic Silver Leather that I purchased several years ago, and carry on a regular basis. It is no longer available, but this is a similar alternative, and so is this one.

My Havaianas® Crystal Flower Flip Flop (in Grey) were purchased from LOFT in July when they had the Free Shipping/No Minimum promotion. These are so cute IRL! The crystal flower stands out much more in person than it does in the online picture, and they are extremely comfortable, too. If you haven't ever tried a pair of Havaianas® flip flops, you really should. I own several pair and really do think there is a difference in comfort between the Havaianas® and similar styles.

Havaianas come in numerous colors and styles, so finding a pair you love should be easy. Here are a handful to consider:

Slim Basic in Black.
Crystal Flower in Gold. I have these and love them...much cuter IRL than the online pic.
Crystal Flower in Navy Blue.
*Fit* Flop in Silver and Gold.
Basics at GAP.

Have a beautiful and blessed day!

xoxo,
