Review: J.Crew Bayberry Flouncette Blouse

J.Crew Bayberry Flouncette Blouse in Dark Plum. This one retails for $98. The website describes it as:

"A ravishing riff on the tuxedo ruffle in raw-edged, ultrasheer silk chiffon. We created this jewel-tone floral print ourselves. Cotton. Long sleeves. Buttons at cuffs. Import. Dry clean."

On me in size 0...not the most flattering pose, and the blouse needs to be steamed, but at least you can get an idea of the fit:

So the Bayberry Flouncette blouse is the same style as the Paisley Flouncette Blouse that I blogged about in this post last Sunday. The Bayberry is also sheer (like the Paisley), so it's probably best if you wear a cami or tank underneath it. I seem to go between a size 0 and 2 in J.Crew tops with sleeves nowadays, and this blouse is no exception. The fit in the size 0 is nice through the body, and while a touch fitted in the sleeves, it isn't enough to be bothersome. The size 2 fits nicely for a looser, blousier overall look and the sleeves fit good, as well. Both the Bayberry and Paisley blouses will transition well into fall worn under a blazer or cardigan and over a turtleneck, as well.

In case you're interested, there is also a Bayberry Washed Wool Scarf in the same dark plum color as the Flouncette blouse, and it's on special promo for $49.50.

What are your thoughts on the Bayberry Flouncette blouse? Have you seen it IRL? Do you already own it? Please do share! :)

  1. I have found that the mandarin collar is not the best look for me, so I will not get this blouse. But, I do love the print so I ordered the scarf during the extra 30% off last week. Thanks for the review!

  2. The print's lovely for the autumn, oh maybe that's as close to falling leaves that you'll get FFM, I know that the leaves fall in California, do they in Florida?

  4. I have the bayberry flouncette as it is all my best colors! I got the scarf first, hoping more items would appear in this colorway! Seeing your fitting room pics reminds me that when I tried it on, there were lots of distracting folds/wrinkles. Actually made it hard to see how the ruffled placket looked on my chest. I decided to buy it and gently told the SA that the folds were very distracting. They actually went back and steamed it for me!!!!!

  5. I really love this print, and am hoping it gets nicely discounted (like the faded paisley). I'd like the scarf too, but have soooo many scarves. Thanks for the picture!

  6. I love the print of this blouse, but found the material a little rough and too transparent. I do like the mandarin collar but would have preferred it without ruffles. I settled for the scarf for now.

Like you i could wear the 0 and 2. I found more comfort in the 2. (This sizing issue could easily be remedied for me if spandex / stretch were consistently added shirts and jackets.) I could see myself revisiting this blouse, though, on deep promo. :)

  7. I didn't notice this until a friend showed me. It looked better on and I really like it. Like you, I could wear a 0 or 2 but went with the 2 so I could tuck it and still have a looser feel. It has the best colors that flatter me. Don't think the material is rough at all. Will wear it like you suggested under a cardigan or jacket. The perfect fall blouse! Thanks for the review!

  9. I didn't like the pattern for my skin tone. Not enough contrast. The scarf is very pretty. Thanks for sharing irl pics. I'll link to your post when I put mine up.

  10. Kathy: The scarf is really lovely and the colors are more saturated on it than they are on the blouse, too. Congrats on getting it! I know it will look lovely on you! :)

  11. Tabitha: Our leaves do fall, but they don't change colors for the most part, unfortunately. You have to really look hard to notice any kind of change. I'm not getting this blouse because the colors don't work for me, but I do hope to get the same style blouse in the Navy Dot...much better color for me. :)

  12. Collette: The blouse would be lovely with tweed and boots...such pretty colors for fall, too. :)

  13. Margaret: You are so right about the folds and wrinkles! I noticed them on the Navy Dot blouse I tried on, too. I'm glad to hear the SA steamed them for you. If I get one I think I will ask them to do the same for me. :)

  18. Thanks Gigi! Like you, this color on the blouse isn't a good one for me, although the scarf didn't look that bad. Did you try the scarf too?
