Review: J.Crew Stadium-Cloth Milo Peacoat

The J.Crew Stadium-Cloth Milo Peacoat retails for $245. It comes in Heather Grey and Navy:

The description on the J.Crew website reads:

"A more modern peacoat silhouette—a slimming waistband, princess seams, luxe crested gold buttons—in our exclusive stadium-cloth, made especially for us in Italy. Inspired by the fabric used in vintage football jackets, this compact, high-density wool adds tremendous warmth without the bulk. Talk about getting more for less. Italian wool/polyamide. Rounded collar. Long sleeves. Welt pockets with flaps. Fully lined. Hits at hip. Import. Dry clean."

I really like this one a lot. The silhouette reminds me of the J.Crew Maggie Double-Serge Jacket that was offered a couple years ago. The fit on the Milo is perfect on me in the size 2...fits well in both the shoulders AND in the waist. However, if I wanted to layer a sweater underneath, I think I would probably need to size up to a 4.

The Navy Milo is lovely IRL, but I thought it seemed to have a sort of purple undertone...definitely not a *true* navy. The Heather Grey looks really nice online, as well. I love the contrast of the gold buttons against the lighter grey color, and would really like to see it in person, too.

Overall, I would say that out of all the J.Crew New Fall Arrivals, this is by far one of my favorite pieces. It's flattering, comfortable, well-made, and also *on-trend* for Fall/Winter 2010.

On me in size 2 (please excuse the partially undone bottom button. It was getting late, and I was in a hurry to try on as much as possible). Unfortunately the pics don't do the jacket justice...it's definitely prettier in person.

What do you think of the Stadium-Cloth Milo Peacoat? Have you seen it IRL? Do you already own it? Please do share. :)

  3. This is more of an outerwear piece where as the Maggie was more of a blazer as well as could double as an outwear piece.

I personally don't care for this one b/c of the warmer climate I live in-- I don't really need another coat.

Looks nice if I did but I bought several coats from JCrew over the years and won't be needing another one this year (or next for that matter;)

I do love my Maggies. I have them in yellow, berry, camel and black:)

That said, nice coat if in the market.

  4. The only thing I have even considered purchasing from JC in a few months. Thank you for the review! Now, if it only came in tall. I still might get the gray and try the regular size. It reminds me of an Alexander McQueen coat from a couple years back. Cameron Diaz wore it, I think.

  5. I love this coat! Definitely military-inspired without being over the top. Unfortunately I have two winter coats from when I lived in Paris and absolutely no reason to buy this one... living in CA my coats don't see the light of day very often! Thank you for sharing the pictures :)

  6. Robin: I've put it on my wishlist, too. If I can get it at a decent sale price I just might go for it. Not sure if I would get the navy or heather grey though...it would be a tough decision.

  7. Genny: The silhouette of the Milo is what reminds me of the Maggie Jacket. I also have 3 Maggies, and wear them as coats during the winter here in Florida. I actually think the Milo would work for winter here, too. It didn't seem that heavy to me, from what I can remember. However, like you I already have several coats and really don't need another one, so I doubt I'll get this one, unless I can catch it at a great sale price. :)

  9. Andrea: This one is a great way to get in on the military trend without being too over the top. If I lived in a colder climate I wouldn't hesitate to get it, but like you my coats don't get a lot of use, so I'll hope for a good sale.

  11. This does fit you nicely. Are you finding the stadium cloth warm. I am thinking about getting the stadium cloth elements J.Crew coat as I want something warm and stylish. I like the peacoat but as I already have one, I am looking for another style. Seems I always get very interested in J.Crew coats each year.

  12. so, do you think it runs true to size as long as you don't plan to wear lots of layers. i'm trying to figure out what size to order. i ordered an 8 last year in the ruffle front coat (final sale) and it's soooo big even though 8 is my normal dress size. it does nothing for me, which is sad because it's a beautiful coat.

  13. Local Okra: I would say it does run TTS if you aren't planning to layer. When I tried this on it fit really well, but I just had a tee on under it. If I were purchasing and planning to layer then I would go up a size. HTH! :)
