Sunday Shopping: New Year...New Arrivals at GAP, Old Navy, Banana Republic

GAP, Old Navy, and Banana Republic have all added some New Arrivals to their sites. (If you happen to be a card member at any of the 3 stores, you can still receive 25% off your order today with code CARD25 at checkout.)

I rarely purchase anything from these stores at full price, so I *window shop*, add items to my cart that I'm interested in, and then wait for a promo or the prices to get reduced before placing an order. :)

Since this is the Sunday Shopping post, let's do some *window shopping* together and take a look at some pretty picks:

GAP:
Old Navy:
Banana Republic:
Do you see anything you're interested in? Have you made a purchase at any of these stores lately? Is there anything you're saving in your cart for a promo or markdown? Please feel free to comment. :)

Check out my posts on the New Arrivals at LOFT and Talbots, if you happened to have missed them. :)

New Year...More New Arrivals at Talbots

Hello Everyone! I hope you are enjoying your Saturday! This time last week I was in Indiana (with my mom and sister) for my Grandmother's 90th birthday celebration. We had an absolutely wonderful time, but I must say it is so nice to be back home with my husband and boys, whom I missed terribly. :)

So, here is what I wore on 1.21.10 for my early morning flight to Indiana, late lunch with fellow JCA cdp at Cheesecake Factory, followed by some shopping, and then dinner at Olive Garden with some of my mom's  friends that she went to college with many years ago.

The Outfit:

Now...on to the actual topic of the post. Since I started my *New Year...New Arrivals* series, I have been receiving requests for my continued *pretty picks* from the retailers I have been showcasing, as they release the New Arrivals for their lines/stores. Yesterday was my post on LOFT, which you can see here, if you happened to have missed it. :)

This morning will be a look at my *pretty picks* for Talbots. Just like my picks for LOFT yesterday, there are a lot of them...Talbots is definitely doing things right these days, from all the beautiful prints and colors, right down to the fresh, clean look of all their gorgeous models.

Here we go (be sure to look at the alternative views of the items on their page if they are available):
So what do you think about this round of New Arrivals at Talbots? Do you see anything you're interested in? Have you already made a purchase there? Please feel free to comment. :)

My Unbelievable Encounter Update: Wonderful News!!!

For those of you who have been following my blog for a while now, you will remember the posts about *My Unbelievable Encounter* with the drunk biker seen here, here, here, and here.

After several court dates and many months of waiting he was finally sentenced. After his attorney negotiated a plea to lesson the charge from a Felony to a Misdemeanor (if he agreed to pay restitution), he was ordered to pay me for the damages to my Expedition, along with all fines and court costs associated with the case.

All in all I am very pleased with the outcome. He did not just *walk away* from his crime scot-free. The fact that he was arrested, had to appear in court several times, pay for damages, and was actually held accountable for his actions is definitely satisfying.  :)

I'm Back From My Midwest Trip and Still Catching Up

Hello Everyone! I hope you are having a fabulous week! I just wanted to make a quick post to let you know that while I am back from my Midwest Trip, I am still catching up on *life* stuff, and that is the reason for the lack of posts this week. ;) I will have a new post up later on today though...see you then! :)

xoxo,

P.S. I will also respond to the comments you all so thoughtfully left later on today, too. :)

You Look Very Familiar...Have I Seen You Some Place Before?

Hello Everyone! Today is Tuesday, and that means it's time for another *You Look Very Familiar...Have I Seen You Some Place Before?* post. This week is the Macy's Edition, so here we go:

Did you miss out on the J.Crew Cotton-Cashmere Primrose Cardigan?

  • How about this 3/4 Sleeve Petal Cardigan from Charter Club as a substitute?

If you're looking for a less expensive alternative to the J.Crew Corwin Cardigan:

    • The Charter Club Merino Crewneck Cardigan looks like a possible nice alternative to the Merino Crewneck cardigans at J.Crew, as well.

What do you think about the pieces from Macy's? Have you seen any of them IRL? Do you own any? If not, would you consider purchasing any of them? Please feel free to comment. :)

    Inspiration: Believe In Yourself

    Believe in yourself
To the depth of your being

    Nourish the talents
    Your spirit is freeing

    Know in your heart
    When the going gets slow

    That your faith in yourself
    Will continue to grow

    Don't forfeit ambition
    When others may doubt

    It's your life to live
    You must live it throughout

    Learn from your errors
    Don't dwell in the past

    Never withdraw
From a world that is vast

    Believe in yourself
Find the best that is you

    Let your spirit prevail
Steer a course that is true

KOHL'S ONE DAY ONLY PROMOTION: PART ONE

Kohl's is offering 20% off your entire purchase TODAY ONLY with code YOURGIFT at checkout. You will also receive FREE SHIPPING automatically with a purchase of $75 or more after discounts. Now for Part One of some pretty picks (part two is the post below this one):

    • ELLE Tweed Crop Jacket. This one actually looks more Charcoal Grey and is very pretty IRL...reminds me of something I would find in Anthropologie.
    • ELLE Bow Swing Jacket. I love it in the Cranberry color...very reminiscent of the Bright Flame color J.Crew previously offered. I also love the Bow detail on the sleeves.
    • ELLE Boyfriend Jacket. I have the longer version of this one and love it. It's well made and comfortable to wear, too. Btw, the flower pin on the lapel is removable.
    • Apt.9 Striped Pintuck Tunic. This would be very cute over leggings or skinny jeans and can be worn without the belt. You can also substitute one of your own belts for the one it comes with. It is also much cuter IRL than online...the store had it on one of the mannequins over skinny jeans and it looked adorable. :) Btw, it is also offered in a Long-Sleeve version.
    • Apt.9 Hammered Satin Blouse. How adorable would this be with a pencil skirt and heels? You could also wear it more casually with denim.
    • Apt.9 Phoenix Heels. I have these and love them...very comfortable and flattering. I did find them to run a tad large and size down one half size. :)
More picks can be seen here in Part Two. :)

You Look Very Familiar...Have I Seen You Some Place Before?

Hello Everyone! Today is Tuesday, and that means it's time for another *You Look Very Familiar...Have I Seen You Some Place Before?* post. This week is the Nordstrom Edition, so here we go:

    J.Crew Contrast Stitch Perfect Shirt:

    • Are those muted colors not working for you? How about the Drape Neck Silk Top as a more colorful option?

Do you like the J.Crew Long Boyfriend Blazer but need a less expensive, yet familiar/similar alternative?

    J.Crew Cleo Platform Sandal

What do you think about the pieces from Nordstrom? Have you seen any of them IRL? Do you own any? If not, would you consider purchasing any of them? Please feel free to comment. :)

    Shopping Strategy

Shopping Strategy...do you have one? I do, and with all the great sales and deals going on lately I thought I would share it with you.

I truly enjoy shopping and styling different looks with the pieces I find. When I see an item in the store or online, I automatically envision the different ways it can be styled and how much *potential* it may or may not have, whether it be for myself or one of my clients.

I believe each piece should pass a little *test* before it can become a full-time resident in a wardrobe.
    1. Will it transition easily into the already existing wardrobe alone, or will it require supplemental purchases to *fit in*? If additional purchases are required in order for it to be worn, then it shouldn't make the *cut* unless it is an absolutely ADORED piece, and then an exception can be made...occasionally.
    2.  Can it be styled in at least 3 different ways? I know some of you remember when I discussed this briefly last year on J.Crew Aficionada and have even incorporated it into your own shopping experiences. It is a *rule* I have had for many years now, and I think it's an important one, as it insures that the item has true wearability, as well as longevity. For example: the sets I have styled over the past year or so for one of my clients consist of a *focal* or *main* piece that is styled in 3 or more different ways, so that she has numerous options when wearing it. This gives the item more wearability and longevity in her wardrobe since she has more choices of when, where, and how to wear that piece.
    3. Is there already something similar in the existing wardrobe? If so, does it get a lot of use or is it a *museum* piece? Is the new item different enough to warrant being purchased? If not then it shouldn't make the cut.
    4. For myself I ask this question: do I absolutely ADORE it? If not, then I don't purchase it...no matter how great the price is (well, at least 98% of the time I don't..I am human, after all ;). This is a really hard one to follow, but it can really help *cut down* on unnecessary purchases if implemented.

So there it is...the strategy I follow when shopping for myself, as well as my clients, to help build a true *working* wardrobe that consists of wearable items and outfits, instead of a closet filled with *museum* pieces.

Do you have a *Shopping Strategy* or any rules you follow when making purchases? Please feel free to comment. :)

Also, remember that today is the last day for the GET MORE, SAVE MORE promotion at GAP, Old Navy, and Banana Republic. Click here and here for my previous posts on the promotion, as well as some of picks.

    Inspiration: *Risk*

Do not be afraid to shine.
This world needs what you have to give.
    Open up the areas of your being;
expose them to yourself - to others.
    You are valuable.
    You are unique.
    You have much to give.
Do not be afraid to give it.

As we risk ourselves, we grow.
Each new experience is a risk:
we can try, and maybe fail,
and as a result, grow -
    or hold back and stagnate.

    You have the potential
to be anything you want to be!
    You are free to choose.
You are limited only by your fears.
    Let your dreams take over,
    fly with the eagles,
    soar into life,
the world is waiting for you!

    * Collar loops offer pull-on ease.

    1.11.10: The Outfit

What I wore this past Monday: I had to make a trip to Shriners Hospital for Children in Tampa (with my boys and a good friend) to pick up my 4 year-old's leg brace. (He has Cerebral Palsy and wears a brace on the affected leg). Afterward we went out for lunch and then visited the International Plaza Mall, which also has a J.Crew (yay). :)
