My Interview with Polyvore & A Mini Editor Contest Reminder

Hello Everyone! I hope you're are having a wonderful start to your week! :) As most of you already know, Polyvore is currently running a contest to introduce their new Mini Editor. The winning blog and one of their participating readers will both receive $1,000!!! I was chosen as one of Polyvore's 5 Launch Partners to kick-off the contest, and gave them an interview last week which they posted here on their blog.

I also wanted to say another big THANK YOU to all who have submitted sets so far! You all are absolutely fabulous! :) Don't forget...the more sets that are submitted the better our chances are of winning! I have switched out more items, so there are brand new options for you to use in making your sets. Please continue to make as many sets as possible...we only have until September 7th to move in to the lead, so the more sets created each day the better! If you haven't yet started to participate, you can read all the details and begin styling your own outfits here. :)

Thanks, and have a wonderful day!

Go placidly amid the noise and haste,
and remember what peace there may be in silence.
As far as possible without surrender
be on good terms with all persons.
Speak your truth quietly and clearly;
and listen to others,
even the dull and the ignorant;
they too have their story.

Avoid loud and aggressive persons,
they are vexations to the spirit.
If you compare yourself with others,
you may become vain and bitter;
for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself.
Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans.

Keep interested in your own career, however humble;
it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time.
Exercise caution in your business affairs;
for the world is full of trickery.
But let this not blind you to what virtue there is;
many persons strive for high ideals;
and everywhere life is full of heroism.

Be yourself.
Especially, do not feign affection.
Neither be cynical about love;
for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment
it is as perennial as the grass.

Take kindly the counsel of the years,
gracefully surrendering the things of youth.
Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune.
But do not distress yourself with dark imaginings.
Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness.
Beyond a wholesome discipline,
be gentle with yourself.

You are a child of the universe,
no less than the trees and the stars;
you have a right to be here.
And whether or not it is clear to you,
no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should.

Therefore be at peace with God,
whatever you conceive Him to be,
and whatever your labors and aspirations,
in the noisy confusion of life keep peace with your soul.

With all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams,
it is still a beautiful world.
Be cheerful.
Strive to be happy.

Have a beautiful and blessed day!

Sunday Shopping: Boots

For me personally, the approach of fall brings about the desire to find a new pair (or two) of boots (yes, we do wear them Florida). I don't know about you, but I love them...tall boots, ankle boots, booties, and even the latest over-the-knee boot trend, too. Whether you're looking to spend a little, or a lot, this season the options out there in *shopping land* are plentiful, so finding your perfect pair shouldn't be too difficult. So for this week's Sunday *Window* Shopping we're going to look at some of the boots now available. I hope you enjoy our trip! :)

Let's start with one of this season's top boot trends: The Over-the-Knee boot. This one has been shown everywhere on the runway, worn by celebrities, and has now made it to the mass market. The over-the-knee boot is available just about everywhere, from Neiman Marcus to Target, retailers are offering different styles and brands of the trend.

Next is the Tall(Knee) Boot. A must-have staple in every woman's wardrobe, both the flat and heeled version of the Tall boot look great with skinny jeans, wide leg crop pants, short skirts, long skirts, and pencil skirts.

Frye *Jane* Tall Boot at Nordstrom.

The ankle boot is a great choice for wearing with pants and jeans, but are also now frequently shown paired with dresses, skirt, and even shorts.

The Bootie is sort of a mix between an ankle boot and a shoe. It is also great for wearing with pants, jeans, skirts, etc...pretty much the same as the ankle boot.

Sam Edelman. These are the Simone black suede ankle booties. I purchased a pair last year and wore them all the time. Very pretty IRL, great quality, and comfy, too.

If you happen to prefer a Mid-Calf Boot, there are plenty of cute styles out there now, too. (Unfortunately I have muscular calves and mid-calf boots just don't work for me since they *hit* at the largest point and exaggerate the size. I do own a couple pair but have to wear my pants/jeans over them, and what's the fun in that?) For those of you lucky women that wear them well, here are a few options:

What is your preferred boot? Do you purchase a new pair each year? If so, have you started your boot shopping for this year? Do you have a pair you love and would highly recommend? Please do share...

Coming Up Later Today...

Happy Sunday Dear Readers...I hope you are having a wonderful weekend! :) This week's edition of *Sunday Shopping* will post a bit later on today, so be sure to stop back by! In the meantime, check out the posts from this past week in the Weekly Recap:

*Saturday: F is for Fur

Have a beautiful morning, and I'll see you soon! :)

F is for Fur

Hello my Dear Readers! I hope you are having an absolutely FABULOUS weekend so far! Today I am sharing another excerpt from the book The One Hundred by Nina Garcia..."A Guide To The Pieces Every Stylish Woman Must Own." It shares the A-Z staples each woman should have in her wardrobe, and today we are continuing on with the letter F. :)

F is for Fur:

Ms. Garcia writes:

    "WHETHER YOU DECIDE TO GO REAL OR FAKE is entirely up to you. Just make sure it's fabulous either way. It has to be glamorous and gorgeous--otherwise, it's pointless!

IF YOU GO REAL:
The five that I prefer, in order of price and luxe factor, are: sable, chinchilla, mink, Astrakhan/broadtail, and Orylag. In Italy, where the well-to-do girls all receive their first fur on their eighteenth birthday, the women can tell you the much more blown-out hierarchy. The Italians collect their furs like the French collect their scarves and Americans collecct their jeans, so they can unapologetically tell you how to best wear fur. With everything. It adds the glam factor to jeans, evening gowns, dresses, etc. There is nothing that fur does not play well with.
Great Finds At: J. Mendel, Fendi, Dennis Basso, vintage shops
Fashion 101: Fur Ever

*Sable: If you have endless funds, this is your fur. It is extraordinarily beautiful with an incredible silvery sheen due to its lack of pigmentation in the tips of the fur. Before oil was discovered, sable was considered "black gold", and it remains as precious today as it was in ancient times.
*Chinchilla: A soft, velvety fur that is both light and voluptuous. It sways and changes colors with each gust of the wind and movement of the body. The changing colors range from silver-white, gray-blue, pearl gray, rose-beige, and black. It is a mark and marvel of luxury and high fashion.
*Mink: Perhaps the most popular fur. It is both soft and glossy, and the colors range all the way from white to dark brown and black. It is a fur that offers fashion designers a large number of creative options, and is thus found in all sorts of mutations.
*Astrakhan/Broadtail: Both are made from Persian lamb and are the fur of choice for the bohemian girls. Astrakhan has a coarse, loose curl that provides for a unique design. Broadtail has a beautiful, silky, moire effect because the curl has not yet developed.
*Orylag: Orylag is a rabbit fur that is dyed to look like it is the more expensive chinchilla. It feels and looks like chinchilla, and only a real connoisseur can tell the difference.

CLOSET OBSESSION: FUR STOLES

Ladies, we have to talk. I understand it is hard to match a stylish coat to an evening dress. But a day coat looks horrid with evening wear and no coat at all looks silly when it is freezing out! This is where a beautiful fur stole comes into play. Every girl should have one. It fills a multitude of wardrobe holes. It always adds Hollywood glamour to an evening dress. And it will make you look finished...like you haven't forgotten your coat in the cab.

IF YOU GO FAUX
The huge mistake when going faux is to try to buy furs that look like the real thing. No! No! Google Prada's Fake Classic Fall 2007. Look at how Prada does not try to make their furs imitate the real thing, instead giving them a life and a beauty all their own, dyeing them in shocking oranges or creating big, white, impossibly puffy coats. It is so clear that they are fake, which makes them so straight-shootingly chic."

GREAT MOMENTS IN FUR

*1953: Marilyn Monroe and Lauren Bacall in How To Marry a Millionaire
*2001: Gwyneth Paltrow in The Royal Tenebaums
*2006: Meryl Streep in The Devil Wears Prada

(All information above is from the book)

CHANEL, Marc Jacobs, and Burberry Prorsum were just a few of the designers who included fur (either real or faux) in their Fall 2010 Ready-To-Wear collections. It showed up as full-length coats, on jackets, on vests, as stoles, and handbags.

Moving into the fall season, fur (real and faux) is in abundance at all different price ranges:

*J.Crew (this one's for you DaniBP ;)

So what are your thoughts?  Do you own any fur or faux-fur pieces? Since there are so many options available now, are you considering making a purchase? Please do share...

Have a beautiful and blessed day!

Style Inspiration by FFM: Cityscape

Happy Wednesday my Dear Readers, and thanks for stopping by! I want to start off by saying a big THANK YOU once again to all of you who have submitted sets for the Win $1,000 With Fabulous Florida Mommy and Polyvore contest taking place here on my blog. All of your sets look FABULOUS!!! :)

This post today continues an already ongoing feature called *Style Inspiration by FFM*, where I will post one of my Polyvore set designs and include links to items you can purchase to re-create the look if you so choose. Some of the set designs will be outfits I am wearing or have worn in the past, others will be *reader request* sets, and some will simply be outfits I would love to wear. :) (If possible I try to include a *real life* photo of me in the outfit if it's something I'm wearing at the time. Of course my schedule doesn't always allow time for snapping a pic, but it is definitely something I hope to include more of with this feature in the future.)

Now on to today's *Style Inspiration by FFM*...this set is actually an outfit I wore yesterday 8.24.10: *Cityscape*.
Cityscape

Cityscape by FFM

The Details:

The top in the outfit is the Apt. 9® Embellished Cityscape Top from Kohl's, and I love it. The fabric is soft, comfortable, and a substantial weight. You can't see it in the picture, but there are little silver nailhead accents that give the tee a touch of extra sparkle and shine, too. I ordered the size small in the top and it fits nicely. (You also may notice the top from this post on Tuesday as the Tory Burch *familiar find*.)

My jeans are the AG Tomboy Crops in *Runner* that I wear uncuffed. These were another fantastic sale purchase and well-worth the price. They are extremely flattering, well made, and comfortable to boot. (I actually sized down one size in these in case you're considering them.)

I purchased my Black/Silver/Grey beaded hoop earrings a while ago at Target, so they're definitely sold out now, but you can find a similar pair here and here.

The bracelet is from ISAACMIZRAHILIVE. It's the Hammered Crystal Accent StretchBracelet in Silvertone (the website won't let me save the picture, so the bracelet in the set is a stand in.) This one is very pretty IRL, more so than the online picture, plus it's lightweight and comfortable to wear.

My handbag is by Charm and Luck in Metallic Silver Leather that I purchased several years ago, and carry on a regular basis. It is no longer available, but here is a similar alternative.

My Havaianas® Crystal Flower Flip Flop (in Grey) were purchased from LOFT last month when they had the Free Shipping/No Minimum promotion. These are so cute IRL! The crystal flower stands out much more in person than it does in the online picture, and they are extremely comfortable, too. If you haven't ever tried a pair of Havaianas® flip flops, you really should. I own several pair and really do think there is a difference in comfort between the Havaianas® and similar styles.

That's it for now! :)

Forever In Blue Jeans: Do You Have A Favorite Pair?

As fall approaches I am beginning my search for a new pair (or two) of blue jeans. This can really be a daunting task...you know, trying to find a pair that is flattering, comfortable, AND reasonably priced?
In the past I have typically purchased jeans at GAP or Old Navy because I have found styles there that fit me well. However, this year I have decided to *branch out* and give some other brands a try. With so many different brands and styles to choose from, surely I can find a pair that make my backside look amazing and are so comfy I would happily wear them every day...right???

Here are a few pair I'm considering:

*James Jeans *Hector* Flare Leg. I really like the higher placement of the back pocket on this pair, and the flare at the bottom helps to balance out the hips. The 33 inch inseam is a good length to wear with most heels, although my preferred inseam length is 34.5 or 35 inches, as I like to wear them with my 4 inch heels most of the time.

Stretchy dark denim and a mid-rise...sounds like a good combination to me.

*7 For All Mankind® *Ginger* Wide Legs. Love the wide leg on these (to once again balance out the hips), the mid-rise, and the 34 inch inseam.

*Citizens of Humanity *Amber* Bootcut. The dark wash and inseam are great on this one...pocket placement looks promising, too.

*Joe's Jeans *Nico* Wash Rocker Flare Leg. Love the wash, love the flare...not so sure about the 8 inch rise though.

What I've tried so far:

*7 For All Mankind® Dojo Wide Leg. I would prefer the inseam to be about a 1/2 inch longer, and I was also expecting the denim to be more comfortable than it is.

*7 For All Mankind® 'Dojo' Trouser Leg Stretch Jeans (Myrella Wash)
These are SO comfortable and the inseam length of 35.5 (I think it's actually more like 35) is perfect. They are also a bit large in the waist, but hopefully my Instant Button® for Jeans will solve that problem. ;) The only thing I'm not sure about is the back pocket placement, which is a little low for my personal tastes, but other than that they are great.

*Paige Denim Hidden Hills High Rise Bootcut. I was able to get these on sale at Anthropologie last month, but returned them since they were too similar to the J.Crew High-Heel Flares that I already own.

So now...just how IS a girl supposed to go about narrowing down her choices with so many different brands and styles to choose from? Well...one of the best ways is to ask other women, thus the title of this post. ;) Do you have a favorite pair? Is there a specific brand and style of denim that you would recommend? Do you have any *deals on denim* to share with us? Please do tell! :)

*Also, don't forget to continue submitting your sets for the Win $1,000 With Fabulous Florida Mommy and Polyvore Contest. I've placed a contest *badge* (that links to the Mini Editor) at the top of the sidebar so you can access it quickly each time you return. I have also included instructions (in that post) for becoming a Polyore member and creating a set if you've never done it before. The sets submitted so far are absolutely FABULOUS and right now it looks as if we have a good shot at winning, so please continue to style as many sets each day as you can! THANKS!!! :)

Have a great day!
