Review: Lands' End Short-Sleeve Shirtdress

Happy Wednesday Everyone! I hope you're week is going well! I wanted to post a quick review of a recent purchase I made from Lands' End with one of their fantastic promos they run on a regular basis. It is the Short-Sleeve Shirtdress in Navy Blue, and today you can get if for 30% off and Free Shipping with code SPRINGNOW pin 1002.

The description on the Lands'End website reads:

Cool and classic.

* Crisp cotton fabric
* Timeless shirtdress styling
* Full-button front; short sleeves with rolled cuff
* Full skirt has stitched-down pleats
* Self-fabric belt is included
* Falls to just below the knee
* Shoulder to hem lengths: Regular, 41 1/2"; Petite, 39"; Plus, 43"

With all the dress styles that come and go, one stands the test of time: the classic shirtdress. Understandably so, since it flatters every figure. Ours has a comfortable, full-skirted silhouette. Pleats in the skirt are stitched down to eliminate "poof" at the hips. Best of all, you know this is one dress that will never go out of style. 100% cotton. Machine wash. Imported.

First let me start off by saying that I absolutely LOVE shirtdresses! They are one of my favorite silhouettes, as I find them to be very feminine and flattering, not to mention comfortable enough to wear on a daily basis. For this particular dress I ordered the size 2 Petite, because their regular size 2 is too large for me. (For reference I am 5"4", short-waisted with a 31" inseam. I normally wear a size 0/2 or XSmall at J.Crew.) Fortunately the dresses at Lands' End seem to run on the longer side, so the petite length ended up working out really well for me (hitting just above my knee), as did the overall fit of the dress. The cotton is a nice light weight which will be perfect for the spring and summer months. The dress is very comfortable on and the skirt is full without being overly *poofy* and adding weight to the hip area. I really like this dress a lot and see myself getting a lot of use out of it.

Here it is on me...I've put on a few pounds over the winter months (working on getting back to my *summer weight* now), but find the dress to still be flattering and think that it will continue to fit even when I do lose my extra 5-7. :)  (When I gain weight it's always on my hip/thigh area first, so fortunately my dress sizes don't change that much.)

I tried to get a shot of the side so you can see that it isn't really *poofy* at all. I had the belt tied in a bow in this pic, so that's why it looks a bit fuller in front just under the waist area.

Here I replaced the self-tie belt with my J.Crew skinny belt in Metallic Silver. It would also look cute with a white, red, yellow, green, gold, or patterned belt...skinny or wide.

One more...trying to show the front of the dress a little better. I love the contrast of the pearlized buttons against the navy blue.

Have you purchased any dresses from Lands' End? Have you tried this shirtdress? Do you own it already? Please do share! :)

xoxo,

  1. Looks adorable on you! I love shirtdresses as well, and think I might have tried last season's dress in the Inlet a while back. Thought it was very cute, just wasn't the right size for me.

  2. Love this dress and it looks so chic & cool on you! I picked up a similar shirt dress at the Crewlet last year. It is shorter, and I'm thinking a longer shirt dress would work well for certain occasions. Ok- all occasions! I agree that they offer a timeless silhouette and perfect for any occasion.

    Quick question! I have the same metallic silver skinny belt. How do you get it to stay in line and not droop such that you have to tuck it under itself? (does that make sense?) Double sided tape? :-) I purchased my belt a little longer for versatility and find it troublesome when I need a shorter version.

    Thanks!!

  3. I do not have this dress, but I plan to order it thanks to this post. I have the exact opposite of your body type, but I'm hoping if I size up enough for my top half that the bottom half won't be too puffy. We'll see! I agree that the pearlized buttons make this dress. :)

  4. Crew Cricket: Thanks! :) On the belt, I made sure to order the size small since the description said it was to be worn at the waist. Fortunately, it doesn't have too much overlap and just *lays* correctly. I do, however, have some belts that I wear at the waist which do have the drooping issue and I use tape to keep them in place. It works pretty well, too! HTH! :)

  12. I found a cute lightweight denim shirtdress on the sales rack at the Land's End dept. in Sears for only $16.00. I love that the sleeves can be rolled up and fastened with tabs or left long. It looks great with leggins when it is cooler or now with bare legs:) 83 here in NC today:)

  18. Lisa: I plan to mainly wear it with my LOFT sandals I had on the other day with the Calypso dress. Click here. It also looks really cute with metallic silver sandals, which enhances the pearlized buttons. As far as silver sandals, I have the Kork-Ease *Ava* in metallic silver, and ordered the Jack Rogers Hampton in silver. The Hamptons arrived and look really cute with the dress, but I haven't decided if I'm keeping them yet or not (sizing issue). Metallic gold sandals or flats will also work with the dress, as will red, orange, green, yellow, or cognac. If I were to wear a colored shoe, then I would accessorize with jewelry or scarf in the same color to *pull* the look together. Such as red shoes, the dress, and perhaps a red bracelet or a scarf with red in it. HTH! Oh, and let me know if it works out for you! :)

  22. I love the dress on you. The skirt on this year's version appears to be less poofy than last years, which is good. I'll haved access to a Sears w/a giant LE dept this weekend so I hope to try it on IRL.

    And I love, love, love navy with silver.

  23. This is a perfect dress. I am definitely checking it out, the longer length is perfect for me and I find it so rarely!

  24. This is one of my favorite silhouettes, and it looks fantastic on you! I have been looking for something just like this in white for summer.

  25. Tabitha: Thanks! :)

    LOL at *forever summer*! :) Contrary to what the tourism industry would have the world believe, it is not eternally summer here in Florida. We do not all wear bright colors, flip flops, and swimsuits all year long, either. Most of us (at least where I live) wear darker colors all winter long and avoid the beach, pool, and bathing suits. :)

    As for the winter weight...apparently my body never got the memo that it doesn't need an extra layer of warmth for a winter where the high temps are in the 50's and 60's. Now that bathing suit season is here it's time to shed it and tone up again. ;)

  30. laurie_miw: Thank you! Oh, I would also love a white shirtdress. Tory Burch has one out right now, but it's very expensive unfortunately. I hope LE decides to offer one this summer...I would definitely purchase it! :)
