Y is for Yoga Gear

Hello Everyone! I hope you're having a wonderful weekend week so far! :) Today I am sharing another excerpt from the book The One Hundred by Nina Garcia..."A Guide To The Pieces Every Stylish Woman Must Own." It shares the A-Z staples each woman should have in her wardrobe, and today we are continuing on with the letter Y. :)

Y is for Yoga Gear:

Ms. Garcia writes:

"No inner peace was ever achieved in a baggy sweatshirt and old sweatpants. Workout clothes should fit you just as well as your street clothes. If your gym clothes are old, stretched, or faded, replace them! You deserve to look good in those gym mirrorsafter all, you did make it to the gym (a victory in and of itself), so you'd better have some nice clothes to stretch and sweat in since you're there. Just promise not to wear them on an airplane. (It's often assumed that nice yoga clothes or even a nice sweatsuit can be worn on a plane. That is a total mistake.)"

Closet Obsession: NUALA AND MAHANUALA
"Nuala (an acronym for Natural Universal Altruistic Limitless Authentic) is a line of yoga clothes by Christy Turlington in collaboration with Puma. The clothes are not just yoga-friendly, they are stylish enough to wear on the street without being embarrassing (we would expect nothing less from the supermodel). A second line, Mahanuala, also by Christy, was created in 2004, and has more items for the serious Yogi. Christy said that she created the lines out of need, because every other brand on the market was using synthetic materials and outlandish colors."

(All the information above is from the book)

Just about every retailer carries some form of yoga gear, so it's possible to look good during your workout without having to spend a small fortune. Here are a handful of yoga pieces currently available:

Do agree with Ms. Garcia when it comes to yoga gear? Do you have any specific brand you really like and would recommend? Please do share! :)

Have a beautiful and blessed day!

xoxo,

  1. Hi FFM! I actually really liked some of the JC yoga options when they were available. I have a grey racerback tank with shelf bra from there that I wear to my weekly class and also have the navy blue and white striped yoga mat. I've found the quality on these items to be great - I wear and wash the tank every week and it still looks new. For yoga pants I usually go right to Old Navy. I'll have to check out some of the other options you mentioned.

  2. I am not a yoga enthusiast. I work out a fair amount, usually 6 days a week. I am very practical with workout gear. Target all the way! I save the money on workout clothes and spend more on the running shoes.

  3. My favorite yoga clothes are definitely lululemon! I love the fabric and they are all so comfy!

  4. Julie and Jennifer: Thanks for the lululemon recommendations. I've never tried any of their line, but it sounds like something I want to check in to. :)

  5. Hi silver_lining! It's great to see you stop by! :) I would like to see J.Crew bring back the yoga line. It seems much more marketable than the $100 tweezers, IMO. I would definitely consider purchasing something this time around, too. I really wish I had gotten one of the mats when they were available. Let me know if you happen to see one pop up somewhere. :)

  6. Desert Flower: Target is a great place to find workout gear. I especially love finding great deals on the clearance racks. :)

Like you, I workout at least 6 days a week, but only practice yoga every now and then. I purchased my workout clothes on sale from a local store called Beall's last year and every single piece is still in excellent condition. I love it when items that cost so little last for so long. :)

  7. Hi ffm it has been awhile since I posted, I just want to chime in about Lululemon, I frequent that store way too much and have several items. They can be a bit pricey but the quality is usually good, however lately it has been declining on their pants.

I was one of J Crew's biggest fans of their yoga line I was disappointed when the line was dropped.

  9. casual-crew: It's so great to hear from you again! You have been missed! How are you? Are you enjoying your new place? I really hope that everything has been going well! :)

Maybe we should all send feedback to J.Crew and ask them to bring back the yoga line...you never know, maybe if they get enough interest they will.

  10. I am actually a yoga instructor and teach several classes a week and I do in fact favor the lululemon! Beautiful lines- I also like Hard Tail for fun items like tie dye tee-shirts. I frequently wear puma yoga pants and vintage rock tees to teach my classes in to change up the normal "yoga look" but for true athletic wear it's lululemon all the way. I only wish I could afford the Christy Turlington line- Nuala!
