Fabulous Florida Mommy *Book Club*...Parisian Chic: A Style Guide by Inès de la Fressange

Hey Everyone! It's time once again for Fabulous Florida Mommy *Book Club* and this week we continue our read of Parisian Chic: A Style Guide by Inès de la Fressange. :)

Part 3: Spotlight on Accessories (Part Three)...

Diamonds are a girl's best friend...

*24/7 Brilliance: Who still thinks diamonds should only come out at night? I have a rivière necklace that belonged to my grandmother. I wear it during the day over a T-shirt, and if anyone asks where I got it, I tell them it's paste! (I sometimes wear paste, too, but no one can tell the difference nowadays!)

*Memo: Don't pile on your engagement ring, your eternity ring, and a bracelet loaded with charms from the birth of each of your four children: your most beautiful item of jewelry is your wedding ring.

*Avoid ostentatious, sophisticated luxury pieces. Instead, opt for something minimalist, like a single stone simply set, or a tourmaline ring from Marie-Hélène de Taillac (www.mariehelenedetaillac.com).

Five Pieces guaranteed to make a Statement...

*Antique Earrings: Never out of style (they already date from centuries past). By day, or at night, they adapt to any and every style. Hoop earrings are good, too.

*A Lucky Charm Bracelet: Especially when it's been brought back from India and you can tell your friends "I'd give you the address but it was a gift from a friend, she brought it back from India..."

NEVER. EVER.: A chunky necklace with big earrings you do not want to look like a Christmas tree! If you want to mix it up, choose very delicate, very unmatching pieces.

*A Man's Watch: A big, man's watch with a cashmere sweater, jeans, and Converse sneakers is very sensual. And with a tuxedo jacket or little black dress, it's sexy.

*Colored Gem Rings: Gold rings topped by precious or semi-precious stones are truly timeless. Some people claim the different stones have life-enhancing properties: chalcedony is known for its soothing powers, for example; citrine is energy-giving; peridots protect from harmful, negative influences and add a cheerful note. Wearing jewelry to make life even better j'adore!

*A Cuff Bracelet: A striking cuff will always make a statement and stand out. An armful of fine bangles is another good investment."

(All the information above is from the book.)

What are your thoughts on this excerpt from the book? Do you agree with what Inès de la Fressange has to say? Will you consider following her advice for Accessories? Do you already own some of the items she recommends? Please do share! :)

Have a lovely day!

  1. i guess some of them are true like the statement piece thing ,going with just the necklace or earring is the way..but the thing about piling on of stuff and minimalism in choice of jewellery are quite relative and specific to an individual's style..diamonds can be worn in the day but the occasion matters.
    i want a man's watch.i have a cuff.and antique earrings which are my mum's actually.

  2. I agree with most of what is in this section. I have a Michele Deco Watch that I bought in 2004 and wear almost daily. It has diamonds and is a statement piece, although to keep it subtle I wear only leather straps-not the stainless bracelet which is shiny and doesn't suit my style. I love my vintage earrings-although they are only brought out for special occasions. My favorite pieces are usually sentimental favorites because I either received them as a gift, or gifted them to myself to mark an accomplishment or milestone.
