  2. The Icon trench from JCrew is a classic investment piece: I have the black and I have it worn it over and over again, I love it.
It is a great deal to get it on sale too!

  3. FFM, Did you buy your regular size in shirts? I am a 4 in the perfect shirt. What size should I buy in the icon? TIA

  4. Anon@8:08: I sized up from my normal J.Crew jacket size which is a size 2. I will be able to add a light layer underneath the size 4, but nothing too thick. I wear a size 0 or 00 in perfect shirts at J.Crew right now, but I found the Icon Trench to run closer to the sizing from J.Crew a couple of years ago, at least the ones from 2010 did. They seemed to not be vanity sized. I would suggest sizing up from your J.Crew blazer or perfect shirt size and also check with a customer service rep to get actual garment measurements. HTH!

  8. I got mine at one of the 20% off events this year and love it. I have the light khaki-- it has none of that draining taupe-y tone and looks good even on us dirty blondes. I have to see what dress would look good under it , a la DaniBP. Any thoughts?

  9. It's so tempting to get this one! I already have the black and the mauve color in the short icon. They really are classic items and what I love about JCrew. I tried on the BR trenches but I just couldn't get past the cheap feeling of fabric and construction.

@DaniBP: I credit you for making me want the black icon. You looked fabulous in it from your France trip last year!

  10. For anyone tall, I'd recommend staying away from the icon. I am only 5'9" and I don't have abormally long arms but the sleeves were WAYYYY too short. Like, sleeves sticking out two inches short. I had the black one and I loved the quality, but I had to let it go on eBay after only wearing it once.

    I also recommend sizing up.

  11. I have been watching for this item a long time in this color! The sizing really is NOT generous, I had to size up one size. The online help DOES have the shoulder dimensions in this garment.
One Q for you icon experts- is it really functional in the rain? Does the khaki color show water spots?
Thanks for your advice- I wonder if it could be scotch guarded?

  12. Hi carol - I have the Icon in Pumice Stone (sized up like everybody else) and have found it to be function in the rain. The drops just bead up and fall off, and I haven't had any issues with water spots. I don't think that it would be necessary to Scotch Guard it.

This is one of those rare pieces where JC really paid attention to all the details - it's a fabulous coat. I think I may have actually paid FP (or close to it) for mine and found it to be well worth the money.

  15. Thank you everyone for commenting on your experiences with the Icon Trench! I'm glad so many of us have now been able to get one, as it really is such a well-made and classic piece.

Lane: I'll do some online window shopping this weekend for dresses to wear under the Light Khaki Icon trench and let you know my picks. :)

Thank you JulieStyles! We are fortunate that Irene hasn't had too much of an affect on our weather. :)

  18. Just a quick update on the icon trench I ordered during this promo- the sleeve length issue is a non-issue! Perhaps they corrected that problem in this year's batch, mine were amply long in my size (I took a size up for layering) and I am 5'10". This really blew me away with how well made it is- the linings are beautifully done, hardware and buttons all perfect. This is the best piece I have purchased through JC all year!

  19. carol, that's awesome! I may have to reconsider the icon trench!

  21. I went to a Jcrew store by my house last friday and saw the Icon Trench on sale for $159.99 I was so excited unfortunately they don't have my size.
Went home and can't stop thinking about it..So I ordered it by phone and the CS is nice enough to match the store price, all she did is call the store and verify the sale price and I got it free shipping too...Quite a deal....
