Style Inspiration by FFM: *2.7.11*

Happy Monday Everyone! Today's post continues an ongoing feature called *Style Inspiration by FFM*, where I will post one of my Polyvore set designs and include links to items you can purchase to re-create the look if you so choose. Some of the set designs will be outfits I am wearing or have worn in the past, others will be *reader request* sets, and some will simply be outfits I would love to wear. (If possible I try to include a *real life* photo of me in the outfit if it's something I'm wearing at the time. Of course my schedule doesn't always allow time for snapping a pic, but it is definitely something I hope to include more of with this feature in the future.)

Now on to today's *Style Inspiration by FFM*...this set is a casual outfit I wore for working at home, schooling the boys, and all my other daily wife/mommy duties on 2.7.11.

2.7.11

The J.Crew Heathered French Market Tee is from several years ago, but a similar one can probably be found at the J.Crew Factory Store. You can see that part of the lettering on the tee is gold, so it looks really nice worn with gold accessories.

My Jackie Cardigan in Navy Blue is just one of the many that I own in various colors. I have collected them over the past few years and find them to be such a great staple piece in my wardrobe...love them. :) (Similar here and here.)

The Old Navy "The Weekend Jeans" are my *go to* pair for a more casual, dressed down look. They are extremely comfortable and very affordable...highly recommend if you're in the market for a new pair of denim. (Similar jeans here and here in 7yr distressed.)

My Urchin's Shell earrings in Crystal from Anthropologie are now sold out unfortunately, but this pair are a similar alternative. style="font-size: small;">

The gold oversized watch is from Target and is a great less-expensive alternative to this one from Michael Kors. It runs large, but I had a jeweler remove a couple of the links and it's now a perfect fit. I love it AND the price! :)

My Perfect Crystal Bold Stretch Bracelet is a favorite piece of mine. It is comfortable to wear, good quality, and reasonably priced. (Similar here and here.)one are similar alternatives.

I purchased my Gap City Flats in Camel several months ago at a great price and have worn them numerous times since. They are very comfortable, but do run small so if you decide to get them definitely order up a size. As you can see from the picture, they are very flexible, so much so that they don't lay flat unless you physically hold them down. They do come with a little travel bag to carry them in, and are also perfect to stick in your handbag when you wear a pair of heels in case your feet start aching...just take them out of the bag, pop them on, and your feet will immediately thank you. :) (The same style of flats are being offered at different retailers such as this one, this one, and this one.)

My Large Metallic Thompson Tote was purchased from J.Crew a couple years ago. I don't carry it often during the winter months, but it gets plenty of use during the spring and summer. It is a bright yellow gold that actually works well as a great neutral for all the prints and color I wear during those seasons. I also like the way it coordinates and almost *matches* most of my yellow gold jewelry pieces. (Every now and then the bag will show up for sale on Ebay, or there are similar options here and here.)

That's it for now...have a fabulous day! :)

Sunday Shopping: J.Crew New Arrivals

Hello Everyone! I hope you're having a fantastic weekend so far! Sunday Shopping is back this week and we are taking a trip to J.Crew. They just debuted New Arrivals on the website this past Thursday, so let's go take a look. :)
I actually found numerous items that I am interested in this time around and thought I would share them with you on our trip...let's go! :)

Madras Popover. Very cute and I love the colors. I'm sure it won't work for everyone, but I'd like to give it a try personally.

*Katie Eyelet Cami...love it in the color *Aged Driftwood*.
*Lace-over Tank. Taupe is my favorite color on this one.
*Neon Leopard Spots Tee. The colors on this are really cute and perfect for the spring and summer months.
*Sailor-stripe boy shirt. As you know I love stripes and this shirt is no exception. I hope it doesn't disappoint IRL.

Lady Lace Popover...so pretty, but the price tag seems a tad obsessive to me.

*Star Spangled Sweater. I'm undecided on this one until I see it IRL, and like it best in the Black Linen color. It appears to be the less-expensive sister to the Natalie Studded Sweater. (J.Crew did the same thing for the Crystal Constellation Cardigan and offered the Shimmering Constellation Cardigan which ended up being about $170 less than the original.)
*Rialta Tweed Jacket. Here's another one I'd like to see IRL. It looks as if it has potential, but again the price tag seems a bit obsessive.
*Liberty Bouquet Shirtdress. The shirtdress is one of my favorite silhouettes and is very flattering to my particular body type, so I'm thrilled to see J.Crew offering one this time around. Yes, it looks a bit short on the model, but I am only 5'4" so I don't think it will be that short on me. Hoping to try this one soon. :)

Crosshatch Chambray Shirt. Love the color on this one and it would be perfect to wear with white pants this summer. If I didn't already have this one from Madewell, it would definitely be in my shopping bag.

*Letour Floral Maxi Dress. Love, but again with the price tag...give me a break!
*Gallerista party dress. I'm listing this one because I love this print. I hope they offer it on some other pieces like a scarf or skirt. Oh, a cami in this print would be pretty, too.
*Dorrie Skirt. I think this skirt is very cute and pre-ordered it with the last promo. It has gotten quite a bit of negative discussion on JCA due to it's length, but once again, the model is much taller than me so I'm hoping it's going to work.
*Madras bermuda short. Love. Love. Love.

*Calais silk tunic. This is listed as a cover-up, but I'm hoping it will work over jeans or pants for a casual summer outfit.
*Islet paisley ruched underwire bandeau tank. Love this print and it's offered in two-piece swimsuit versions, as well.

What are you interested in from the New Arrivals? Have you seen any of these items IRL? Have you already made a purchase? Is there anything you love and would highly recommend? Please do share!

Have a beautiful and blessed day! :)

V is for Vintage

Hello Everyone! I hope you're having a fantastic week so far! :) Today I am sharing another excerpt from the book The One Hundred by Nina Garcia..."A Guide To The Pieces Every Stylish Woman Must Own." It shares the A-Z staples each woman should have in her wardrobe, and today we are continuing on with the letter V. :)

V is for Vintage:

Ms. Garcia writes:

"Vintage items are a fantastic way to add individual style to a wardrobe and set yourself apart from the pack. Nobody is going to have that same dress or coat you got from the local thrift shop. Nobody. The other advantage of buying vintage is that you can find a lot of designer items at bargain-bin prices. If you know your fashion history, you'll know the labels and items to look out for (a YSL tuxedo jacket, a Courréges A-line, a Pucci or Missoni print). However, there are definite pitfalls when buying vintage. One must definitely be aware of the pitfalls, for falling into one can make you go from chic to cheap in no time."

The Key When Buying Vintage Is To Be Strict

*The condition should be perfect. No pulling, stains, or discoloration. This is the difference between looking fab or looking shabby.

*The garment should fit, or at least it should be big enough so that you can tailor it to fit. Never buy too small.

*A vintage designer dress can be found for much less if you know who to look for - Missoni, Pucci, Alaia.

*It is best to start your vintage journey in the accessories section. You generally cannot go wrong with vintage jewelry or clutches.

The Inside Track: A Few Favorite Vintage Shops

*Los Angeles: Decades, Paper Bag Princess

*New York: What Goes Around Comes Around

*Miami: Rags to Riches

*Chicago: The Daisy Shop

*Boston: Second Time Around

(All the information above is from the book)

I personally love visiting Vintage shops to see what treasures I can find. I could spend hours going through the racks, looking at each item, wondering what its history is, and the journey it went through to make it to that particular shop. My love of vintage began back in the 80's when my friends and I would make a weekly trip to the local thrift store. I could find beautiful vintage dresses and gowns there for $.99. That was until the owners got wise to the trend that was going on and started price gouging, unfortunately. They really did get some gorgeous pieces in though and it was a blast visiting to see their *new arrivals* each week. :)

Times of course have changed, and these days you don't even have to leave your house to vintage shop. You can now do it online at such places as Fashion Dig, Free People Vintage Loves, Modcloth, and Posh Girl Vintage.

On the other hand, if you like the look of vintage, but would rather buy new you are also in luck. Several retailers offer vintage inspired lines of clothing now...here are several examples:

*Beyond Vintage Beaded Silk Blouse (This one was also sold at Anthroplogie)
*Beyond Vintage Striped Cami

What are your thoughts on Vintage clothing? Do you agree with Ms. Garcia? Do you have a favorite vintage shop you frequent? A favorite vintage piece you've acquired? Please do share!

Have a beautiful and blessed day!

Style Inspiration by FFM: *2.21.11*

Hello my dear readers!

Now on to today's *Style Inspiration by FFM*...this set is a casual outfit I wore on Monday. The weather has been in the 70's and sunny, so I took the opportunity to pull out one of my J.Crew knit dresses and a pair of sandals to wear...effortless casual chic and comfortable at the same time. :)

2.21.11

As I said before, my navy blue Ruched V-Neck Dress is from J.Crew. I had tried this one when it first came out, and thought it was really cute. Unfortunately, the dress I received had an uneven hem so I returned it and never re-ordered. I was recently able to catch it again on promo in my size and decided to give it another try since the price was so fabulous. Luckily the hem on the dress I received is just fine and I was thrilled to be able to wear it already. It appears that the dress keeps popping back on the J.Crew website every now and then so you may be able to catch it if you're interested. Otherwise there are similar options here, here, and here.

I purchased my Old Navy Denim Jacket a couple years ago at a great price and find the quality to be excellent.  (Similar option here and here.)

The Pave' Necklace I wear was a birthday present from my parents and came as a set with matching earrings. This necklace is very similar, except the pendant on it is a heart and the pendant on mine is a barrel.

My Urchin's Shell earrings in Crystal from Anthropologie are now sold out unfortunately, but this pair are a similar alternative.

The J.Crew Small Crystal Colletto Bracelet was purchased last year at a great price. It is sold out now, but you can find similar options here and here.

My Aviator sunglasses were purchased from Endless.com quite awhile ago and are one of my *go to* pairs. Aviators are sold just about everywhere and at different price ranges, so finding a pair to fit your budget should be fairly easy. :) (A few you may be interested in here, here, and here.)

As you may have noticed, I carry my J.Crew Large Metallic Gallery Hobo a lot. This was one of the best purchases I have made and the CPW (Cost Per Wear) on it must be at about 3 cents by now. ;) If you're looking for one I would suggest posting on the J.Crew Aficionada Weekly Exchange {Looking to Find} thread or check Ebay on a regular basis. You never know when someone may be willing to part with theirs. In the meantime, check out this one (in Gold) as an alternative.

My sandals were purchased at LOFT two years ago on super sale, and you can see from the pic that I have worn them a lot. They are the Serena Mini-stud Sandals in Gold, but I also own them in Black with Gold Mini-studs and White with Gold Mini-studs. They are so incredibly comfortable and another great purchase...CPW must be in the negative amount by now.  I'm not sure if you could find them on Ebay, but this pair (in Gold) and this pair (also in Gold) may work as an alternative for you.

That's it for now...have a beautiful and blessed day! :)

*A different style, but when I first saw the Tuileries Dress, the print reminded me of the one on the Carolina Herrera dress.
