Fabulous Florida Mommy *Book Club*...Parisian Chic: A Style Guide by Inès de la Fressange

Happy Thursday Everyone! It's time once again for Fabulous Florida Mommy *Book Club* and this week we continue our read of Parisian Chic: A Style Guide by Inès de la Fressange. :)

Today we continue with the second part of the book: Belle of the Ball....

Part Two: The Price of Beauty...

"I like the things I use everyday to be beautiful and so often I choose creams by their packaging. I never buy makeup in ugly containers. I love pretty boxes and stylish bottles and tubes in my bathroom they're decorative and they always put me in a good mood!"

Beauty Essentials: —→ Throw out everything else, but be sure to keep these!

(A few on the list are...)

*Serge Lutens Eye Shadow:
—→The packaging is gorgeous, and the texture melts magically on the skin.

*Elizabeth Arden's Eight Hour Creme:
—→A legendary treatment that makes the rounds backstage at every runway show.

*Terracotta Moisturizing Tan Powder from Guerlain:
—→The most effective way to a healthy, sunny complexion. Why go to the Bahamas when you can shop at Guerlain?

*Neutrogena Body Oil:
—→Penetrates the skin by magic, leaving no oily traces. Of course, it leaves your skin silky-soft, as he will no doubt tell you...

Memo: Everyone looks better with a little makeup!

 My 10-Minute Beauty Routine:

(Part of her routine is...)

*Wash your hair every morning (it helps you wake up). Apply mousse to wet hair for volume, or a supermarket volume rinse.

*I never go out without day cream. I buy mine at the drugstore, and I often change brands. Don't use too much, or your cheek will stick when you greet friends à la française.

*Use a liquid foundation (a pump-action bottle is easier when you're in a hurry). I keep my foundation compact in my bag for re-touching throughout the day. Warning—never apply foundation with a sponge; use your fingers instead, as for a cream. The result is more natural.

—→If I have time, I smudge a fine line of black kohl along the base of the lashes.

*Apply mascara to the top lashes onlythere's no danger of it running during the day.

 Scent of a Woman:
(Part of this section reads...)

*I change my perfume every ten years. I don't like trendy perfumes, which I find often too aggressive. I prefer older, more classic brands.
Three Beauty Secrets...

*For Glossy Hair: Pour three soup spoons of white vinegar diluted in a bowl of water evenly over wet hair after shampooing. Guaranteed to gleam under the flash!

*Drink Carrot Juice: It tastes good, makes us happy, makes us beautiful logical!

*For a Dazzling Smile: Use plaque disclosing tablets (from the pharmacy) to locate where you need to improve your brushing technique.

(All the information above is from the book)

My thoughts...

*I like that she purchases some of her products at the drugstore like so many of us do.
*I have tried the Neutrogena Body Oil and found it to leave oily traces if you don't use just the right amount.
*I  like the tip about Glossy Hair, but wonder if there will be a hint of vinegar smell left behind. Also, do you still condition afterwards?
*I agree that Carrot Juice is delicious...just don't drink too much of it or you will start to turn orange. (I've seen this happen before.)

What are your thoughts on *The Price of Beauty*? Do you agree with what Inès has to say? Please do share! :)

Hello Everyone! I hope you're having a great week so far! It's time for another edition of *You Look Very Familiar...Have I Seen You Some Place Before?*, so let's get started! :)

The print on this Paisley Empire Waist Top reminds me a lot of the Coppelle Paisley print from J.Crew:

The print of this Floral Strapless dress from Forever 21 reminds me of the

Rose Printed Smocked Gown from Rebecca Taylor.

Sunday Shopping: Visiting Thrift Stores And My Own Fabulous Find At One Of Them

Happy Sunday Everyone! I hope you are all having a fantastic weekend! :) Sunday Shopping is back this week and this time it's all about Thrift Store Shopping.

My first visit to a Thrift Store was during my teenage years back in the '80s. My friends and I would go in search of Vintage dresses and men's suit jackets (for the original *borrowed from the boys* look), among other things. I continued to visit regularly in my 20's and late 30's up until my second son was born, when it became increasingly more difficult to make it there by myself and next to impossible to go with the boys in tow. I also started to become frustrated with the prices they began to charge...sometimes close to or more than new items I could find on sale at retail stores. Definitely no longer very *thrifty* to shop there at all, so for the past several years I haven't made an effort to go, other than to drop off donations.

So fast forward to yesterday: I actually did venture out for a little Thrift Store shopping. You see, I'm in search of a Pinafore Apron (all of my aprons go around my neck, which can sometimes give me a headache) and haven't had any luck finding one at any stores, online, or any that I like on Ebay, so I thought maybe one of the local thrift stores might have one. Well, I visited four of the local shops on my quest for the apron, but unfortunately one was not to be found. Thankfully the day wasn't a total bust though, and here's why... the last store had what they called a *Boutique* room. Now, I absolutely cannot pass up looking at any store, room, or area that has the name boutique on it, so of course I went in to have a look. Unfortunately though, it was filled mainly with overpriced gaudy garments...so sad. All is not lost though, since I often have good luck finding gems in the midst of a mess, I decided to go through the racks. Guess what I found? A Nanette Lepore Jacket with the matching skirt! Guess how much I paid for the set??? $12...that's it! Needless to say, I was extremely thrilled! Both pieces fit me well enough that I can wear them now, but I may see about having them tailored just a bit for a better fit, and even with that cost it will still be an exceptional bargain. Here is my find:

There are some shadows in the picture making it look a bit dark or stained in some areas, but it actually isn't at all IRL. In fact, the condition of both pieces are excellent, almost like new.

I just love this ribbon and bow detail...such a lovely added feminine touch. :)

It is also at the waistband and bottom hem of the skirt...very pretty, IMO. :) Both pieces are light weight and can easily be worn now. I see myself wearing them as separates more than I will as a suit, but it is still nice to have the option to do so if I choose. All in all, I am very pleased with my find and count yesterday's venture into Thrift Store shopping a success.

Do you go Thrift Store shopping? If so, how often? What has been your best find? Please do share! :)

Have a lovely day!
