A Little This, A Little That...


The Jack Rogers 'Navajo' sandal is one of my Spring Wishlist footwear items. I already own a pair in Silver, but have plans to purchase another in both Platinum and Black this year. The sandal always receives rave reviews, as it should...it is comfortable, pretty, well-made, versatile, classic, and timeless. The Navajo was also a favorite of Jacquelyn Kennedy, as you can see from the photos above. I thought you might enjoy reading a bit more about the history of the sandal. :)

STEPPING INTO HISTORY:
THE STORY OF JACK ROGERS NAVAJO

Born on the streets of Capri, the Jack Rogers Navajo sandal immigrated to America courtesy of style icon and First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy. Kennedy favored its elegant ease as a relief from the formalities that her official life demanded.

First made by small, independent cobblers in and around Palm Beach, Jack Rogers put the sandal into expanded production in 1961. The Jack Rogers Navajo sandal became an immediate hit, as it became available to fashionable women coast to coast.

A half century later, the Jack Rogers Navajo sandal is still made by hand in Florida. The brand has added a fully-evolved, year-round footwear, ready-to-wear, and accessories collection, whose inspirations derive from the original shoes of the 1960s.

I am still making my way through all the collections from Fall 2012 RTW on the Style.com website. From what I've seen so far, I have found very little that is really wowing me at the moment (perhaps I'll feel differently once the fall season is actually here again.)...but, here are a couple of looks that I do like and would even consider wearing. :)

Speaking of Milly...I seem to be in good company with my love for the brand. The Duchess of Cambridge, Kate Middleton, appears to be a fan of the line, as well, and recently wore the Gabrielle Combo Jacket on her return from a holiday in Mustique.

Look what I found while going through more of the childhood memorabilia that my mother saved for me....a Star Wars folder with Princess Leia on the front and Luke Skywalker on the back, made in 1977. Anyone else remember when the movie first came out that year? Did you get to see it on the 'big screen'?

My boys love all things Star Wars (my three youngest, especially), so needless to say they all really like the folder, and would love to use it if I were to let them.

How adorable are these cookie jars?




What better to put in one of the cookie jars than an all-time favorite: Nestlé Toll House Chocolate Chip Cookies...

Ingredients: 
  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup butter or margarine, softened
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 3/4 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 large egg
  • 1 (12 ounce) package NESTLE® TOLL HOUSE® Semi-Sweet Chocolate Morsels (I prefer to use the Milk Chocolate Morsels myself)

Directions: 

1. PREHEAT oven to 375 degrees F.

2. COMBINE flour, baking soda and salt in small bowl. Beat butter, granulated sugar, brown sugar and vanilla extract in large mixer bowl until creamy. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Gradually beat in flour mixture. Stir in morsels and nuts. Drop by rounded tablespoon onto ungreased baking sheets.

3.BAKE for 9 to 11 minutes or until golden brown. Cool on baking sheets for 2 minutes; remove to wire racks to cool completely.


*Do not overbake the cookies or they'll turn out hard and crunchy instead of soft and chewy.

Fabulous Florida Mommy Baking Tip: When storing your cookies in the cookie jar or other container, add a slice of bread that has been cut in half. Place one half at each end of the container or on each side of the cookie jar. (If you have a lot of cookies, then use two slices of bread.) The bread soaks up the extra air in the container so that it dries out instead of your cookies. I change out the bread slices each day so that the cookies remain moist as long as they are around...which isn't very long in my house. :)

  1. I bought a pair of Jack Rogers in platinum last summer before a trip and they are the perfect sandal. I need no other. The platinum color is perfect - it truly goes with everything.

    I just ordered my first Milly item - a dress on sale at Nordstrom. You and others have raved so much about this brand I felt good at least trying it.

    Your boys in their Star Wars costumes are too cute! I was 7 when Star Wars came out and I remember my Dad taking us to the drive-in to see the movie, it was a very big deal!
    I have a question about the Jack Rogers line: are they available in stores in Florida? I'd love to try them on.
    I have taken your advice and planned a trip to the big mall in Tampa, I am pretty excited. I'll be visiting Tory Burch and JCrew and I hope to try on some Milly at Nordstroms.
    I also ordered some suiting from the Tory Burch sale, it's waiting for me at my in-laws. I'll let you know when I get back how it turns out!
    I am packing up today and getting organized, we leave for the airport early tomorrow.
    I'll be thinking of you when I am in Florida, one of these days we'll have to meet, we may be there more frequently going forward, hopefully twice a year. I do love it there!

  3. Kristin: I am really looking forward to getting the Jack Rogers in Platinum this year. Like you said, the color is perfect and will go with just about everything. I am really in need of a neutral sandal without a high heel and they will fit the bill perfectly. :)

    Let me know how you like your Milly dress. Which one did you get?

  4. Hi Dani! Nordstrom carries Jack Rogers, as well as Kate Spade, Milly, and Tory Burch. I think the sandals will be lovely on you and perfect to wear with many of your spring and summer dresses.

    I'm so thrilled you get to visit the mall this time! Don't forget to go to Kate Spade while you're there, too.

    We definitely need to plan to meet up at some point in the future...that would be SO fun! I'm glad to hear you'll be visiting more frequently now. Are you coming again later this year?

  5. Hi FFM, I hope we will, my in-laws love it when we visit, and now that they are having some health issues it is a help to them as well.
    It is an easy trip with a direct flight, we don't have to rent a car and we have a place to stay, we should go more often!

  6. I ordered the Katrina dress in peacock floral. The Milly website has it for cheaper than Nordstrom's, but I am not sure of my size so I needed to be able to return it, the Milly site is final sale. My son is making his First Communion this spring so I am on the hunt for a pretty dress.

    The platinum color is perfection. Metallic, but not too shiny. The sandals are so comfortable once I got my first pair I figured I'd be buying them in other colors. But like I said the platinum goes with everything and can be casual or dressy so I see no need to buy another color, I'll just stick with these! I rarely pay full price for things but these sandals are worth it. And Made In Florida!

    DaniBP - you won't be just trying them on, you'll be buying a pair I bet. They are that good.

  8. Last Call by Neiman Marcus just got in a good selection of Jack Rogers sandals in several colors. They have the Provence, the Riviera, and the Key West (all 3 look very similar to the Navaho). They are an additional 35% through Presidents Day:)

  12. Just fyi, the sandals that Jackie Kennedy are wearing in those pictures are actually Stephen Bonanno's. The first picture shows Jackie wearing the Bonnano "eva" style, which Jack Rogers doesn't carry. In my opinion, they're much better made with lots of available customization!

    2. Thanks for sharing that info anon@10:21. The image is from the Jack Rogers website, so if Jackie is wearing a pair of Bonanno's instead of their sandals, maybe someone should let them know.
