A Little This, A Little That...

(Source)
Jackie always looked so elegant and lovely no matter what she did or where she was. These photos were taken on her visit to India in 1962. The John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum website gives the following detail about her dress and coat:

Designer: Oleg Cassini (American, b. France, 1913-2006)

Place made: USA

Material: Silk ziberline

Date Made: 1962

Sleeveless apricot colored, knee length dress with a slight V neckline. This dress is gathered at waist which is accented with a bow, the skirt is an A-line. The dress is accompanied by a matching boxy coat with 3/4 sleeves, a plain front and one button at the collar.

For a daytime boat ride on Lake Pichola, in Udaipur, India on March 17, 1962, First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy wore this dress and matching coat of such elegant formality that they would not have been out of place at a fashionable cocktail party. However, the fabric was rigid enough to keep its composure in the heat of India. Its dazzling color (appropriate to the intended setting) and sheen were calculated to ensure that she would be instantly identifiable to the crowds on the distant shore as they watched her barge on its way to the maharana of Udaipur's White Palace, where she was feted that evening.

Jackie's dress happens to remind me of one that I have in my own closet (except that mine is a print, instead of a solid color):
It is the Kate Spade New York 'Jillian' Bow-front Dress in Grey and Cream Rose Print. Here's a closer view of the bow...so pretty!
The 'Jillian' Bow-front Dress by Kate Spade has been offered in solid colors, as well as numerous other prints. Here are a few of them available now:

Love this Liberty Cotton Reversible Tote from Brooks Brothers. I think it would be really cute to carry when we visit the Gulf Coast this summer, especially if I end up getting the Anchors aweigh underwire top and belted hipster bottoms from J.Crew (with the 20% off promo they are offering right now) or this one from Nanette Lepore.

Speaking of anchors...how adorable are these?

Set Sail Loafers

So it seems to be official at this point: Florida is not getting a winter this year, or even a spring for that matter...it appears we are moving straight in to summertime. Other than this past Sunday and Monday when the temps dropped a little, it has been incredibly warm. So much so that I saw numerous people buying swim noodles when I made a stop at Walmart this past weekend. I actually wish I had picked some up, as they would have come in handy yesterday when I braved the chilly waters of our pool (no, it isn't heated) to begin my Swimming Pool and Upper Body/Arm Workout for the warm weather seasons. (It is definitely time to get started on it again if I want to feel comfortable in one of the swimsuits I mentioned earlier.)

Well, even though it is still 'officially' winter and actually feels like summer, I have been 'Spring Cleaning' for the past week. So far I have made it through the kitchen, dining room, living room, and boys' rooms...such a tedious process, but the end result is so gratifying...don't you agree?

If you happen to be a new reader of the Fabulous Florida Mommy blog, you probably do not know that I help other women clean and organize, too...closets, wardrobe makeovers, and packing for trips are just some of my specialties. You can read a little about AnneG's experience here, as well as a few of my previous projects here, here, and here. :)

Just a reminder (in case you didn't see it at the top of my blog) that the Ralph Lauren Polka-dot Cotton Shirtdress that I blogged about here and here is now on sale...YAY (can't wait to receive mine)! It is available to purchase here...the promo code EC29478 at checkout will get you Free Shipping, too! Btw, doesn't this dress look like something Jackie would have worn?  :)

I also want to let you know that my Bloggy Friend Rose is hosting a GIVEAWAY on her blog right here...hop on over and enter, then be sure to check out all of her fantastic reviews from retailers J.Crew, Madewell, Anthropologie, Gap, Banana Republic, and many others. :)

So what have you been up to this week? Please do share...I always love to hear from you! :)

P.S. Tomorrow will be the second edition of Etsy Seller Spotlight here on the Fabulous Florida Mommy blog, so be sure to stop back by...you don't want to miss it! :)

Have a lovely day!

xoxo,

  1. Again, I have to tell you FFM that these posts are a favorite of mine!
I really admire the work you have done for other women, how you have found the time with your family as just illustrates the high level of organization you are operating at!
I love that dress of Jackie's, I have something similar from JCrew (almost the same color) in a silk/wool, it's quite old (10 years?) and has a tiny bow at the waist.
Going to check out the KS dresses now!
Have a great day, enjoy that beautiful weather!

  4. Ffm, I haven't bought Ralph Lauren recently. Would you mind sharing the size you took? I know I'm always a size bigger. Thanks, and once again you are making my hubby and kids happy not seeing me in sweats all the time. ;)

  5. Hi savvy shopper! It has been awhile since I’ve ordered any clothing items other than a belt from Ralph Lauren, so I actually guessed on the sizing for the dress. I ordered it in a size 2 (the larger of my two 'normal' dress sizes for J.Crew, Anthro, Milly, Kate Spade, Tory Burch, etc), but did contemplate the size 4 as well, since it is 100% cotton without any stretch. The belt I ordered recently from RL was a size Small (4-6 according to the sizing chart) since it didn’t come in an XSmall, and it was too large. That is why I decided on the size 2, and I am really hoping that it will fit, but will exchange for the size 4 (as long as it is still available) if not. I am so sorry that I cannot be of more specific help! I'd love to hear what you think of the dress if you do end up ordering it! :)

    1. You're welcome ajc! I'm not sure how RL runs these days, unfortunately, and also guessed on the size. I went with the larger of my two 'normal' dress sizes in the other retailers I shop at, so I'm hoping its going to fit. I'll exchange for a larger size if it doesn't, as long as its still available, that is. Let me know what you think when your dress arrives! :)

  7. we posted at the same time..
thanks for your help. I ordered 8 which is also bigger of my 2 dress sizes so this looks like the best guess at the moment.

  11. Thanks so much for the RL tip --cotton!dots!pleats!navy/white! I can't wait. I ordered it yesterday right after I saw this post. I always love your picks and enjoyed your article on dresses a few weeks back. Your KS dress is lovely. Lately grey has become my favorite color. It sets off many other colors quite nicely.

  13. Ladies...my RL dress just arrived and it is absolutely gorgeous! I really think you are all going to love it. I guessed correctly on the size, so there won't be a need for me to exchange it. The color is a deep dark navy blue with white dots, and the fabric is crisp, a nice weight, and feels lovely to the touch. There is actually 3% elastane in with the cotton, so it does have a bit of stretch to it. It isn't lined, but the fabric is very substantial, so it may be possible to wear it without a slip if you would prefer. This dress is more than worth the $60 sale price...I am extremely happy that I purchased it and can't wait to wear it!

I have a super busy afternoon, so it isn't likely I'll be able to post pics today, but will try to get them up tomorrow. :)

  15. Hello, I just started reading your blog and was wondering if anyone could tell me where I could find the RL polka dot cotton shirt dress. It seems to be sold out everywhere! Help :(

    1. Hello Francolope! The RL dress has indeed been sold out for awhile now, but does pop back onto the website every now and then. I have been posting PSA's whenever it does, and will continue to do so if I see it for sale again. Another store that sold the dress is Dillard's, and even though it is sold out there online now, perhaps you can find one at a Dillard's store near you, or call their customer service to see if any stores nationwide still have it. HTH! :)
