A Little This, A Little That...

Love this vintage 1950's dress...so pretty and feminine. The floral print is absolutely lovely, plus pink and green just so happens to be one of my favorite color combinations, too. :) Kate Spade New York actually has a pink and green Floral-print Dress in their latest collection. Look how adorable the same print is on this handbag...I want one.

Speaking of pink, 'shocking' pink, to be exact...it just so happens to be taking the place of orangey-red as the 'it' lipcolor to wear right now. What are your thoughts about this? Will you be giving the new 'shocking pink' color a try?

Apparently Obsessed reported here last Friday that Nars "Schiap" is the color of choice among celebs and bloggers...it's described as a shocking matte pink. Ina reviewed Bobbi Brown's 'Neon Pink' lipstick here, and WhoWhatWear shared some other options here, as well. I wonder if J.Crew will offer their version of the shade?

While there isn't a 'shocking pink' shade of lipstick on the J.Crew website today, there IS a batch of New Arrivals...yay! Not only that, but there is also FREE SHIPPING/NO MINIMUM on every order with code FREESHIP at checkout.

I took a quick look at the New Arrivals this morning, and here are a couple of things that caught my eye:
Brompton straw mini-hobo. I would like to add another straw handbag to my wardrobe this year, and I think this one is adorable. I love the size and silhouette, but am concerned about the quality level, especially for the price. Hope to see this one in person eventually.

Basket-weave shift dress. This is very cute, and I love the silhouette...would be a nice option to wear with sandals and cute accessories for a 'casual chic' look when running errands. You can see the dress in the 'Retro Lemon' colorway on Pamela here, btw.

Hilary dress. Such a gorgeous color of blue and the longer length is wonderful...nice to see that they didn't make it with an exposed zipper, too.

What are your thoughts on the New Arrivals? See anything that catches your eye? Do you plan to take advantage of the FREESHIP promo code?

I also have my eye on these two dresses from Lands' End...

Sleeveless Madras Shirtdress

I can easily see myself wearing them for numerous different occasions, as well as just for a day at home (especially the Madras one).

Such true words, indeed!
Btw, I shared some of my thoughts about overdressing in this post on Monday if you missed it.

This Saturday my mom, sister, and I will be going out to lunch and then to do a bit of shopping. I am really looking forward to our 'girl time' together. :) I'm pretty sure that I am going to debut my new Ralph Lauren Polka-dot Cotton Shirtdress (which I reviewed here), as it seems perfect for the occasion. :)

Btw, I wanted to let you know that the dress is still available on the Dillard's website here (at full-price) if you happen to still be looking for one.

So what have you been up to this week? Do you have any special plans for the weekend? Please do share...I always love to hear from you! :)

Have a lovely day!

xoxo,

    1. Hi Ina! I also like pink lipstick, and agree that it looks very fresh for spring and summer. Thanks for letting me know about your Bobbi Brown review. I just added a link to your post. :)

  2. This year is all about the dress. I love that Ralph Lauren dress, it is so much nicer than the similar J.Crew version. Tailoring makes all the difference, I find RL to be a bit more tailored than J.Crew, which seems to be loving the slouchy look this season.

I'm thrilled that pink lipstick is popular because I never stopped wearing it. I could not do the orangey-red or coral shades, I always need cool undertones.

    1. xoxo, I also love the Ralph Lauren dress. The quality is far superior to the dresses at J.Crew that retail for the same price and higher.

I am also thrilled that pink lipstick is the 'it' color again, because like you, I never stopped wearing it. While the orangey-red shades do look ok on me, I much prefer colors with cool undertones, because I think they flatter my coloring more.

  4. I love shocking pink and hope that it never goes out of style! Right now Nars Funny Face is my current favorite pink lipstick--it's a little deeper and bluer than Schiap.

    1. Hexicon, thank you for mentioning Nars Funny Face. Lipsticks with blue undertones work much better with my coloring, so I'll definitely have to give it try.

  5. I love the idea of shocking pink lips, but I don't think I can pull it off! Love your dress choices - I might try the Lands' End ones, too. Great choices. Meant to comment - LOVE your post from yesterday - really hit the mark!

    1. Elizabeth in MO: Thanks! I really wish I would have ordered the dresses from Lands' End when they had the 25% off promo recently. The Madras dress is really calling my name, but I don't want to pay $85 for it if I can possibly get it on sale. Thing is, I know I will wear it constantly, so my CPW will be very low even if I do pay full price. I keep going back and forth about it. I know I can always return, but I've been trying not to do so much trying and returning lately. I'll be sure to post a review if I do ever end up ordering though. Let me know what you think if you get one of them.

  6. One more thing (actually 2) - the Oscar Wilde quote is outstanding! I have a styling question for you - I struggle with what types of shoes to wear when just out and about with the kids (park, baseball practice, etc). SO many women here wear their Nikes, New Balance sneakers, etc with jeans - I refuse! My husband tells me that's ridiculous and I should wear mine! I only wear them to exercise. Any fashionable, yet comfortable, options you can recommend?

    1. I know...I just love that quote! :)

When I am out and about with the kids I usually wear sandals...yes, even to the park. Unless, of course, we are planning on playing ball or taking a long, and then I'll wear sneakers. Is it feasible for you to wear sandals to the events you're going to, or are you looking for suggestions of cute and comfy closed-toe shoes? Let me know either way, and I'll give you some recommendations. :)

    2. Hello - I am like you, Elizabeth and FFM - sneakers are a big turn-off. Have you tried Merrell's mules? They have all the support of a sneaker, but some of the contouring and style of a sporty chic shoe... I got the netted-top ones when they came out a few years ago and find that they are sturdy and very functional without looking dweeby. They even look good with skinny jeans rolled up. Also, a great option for stylish moms are Puma slip-ons. They do a whole line of them precisely for hte fashion-conscious woman looking for sporty chic. Not as cushioned or durable, but definitely cool.

  7. Hi FFM, I like your picks from Lands' End, they make great dresses for wearing during the day at home. These ones look easy to wash too which is key. :)
The straw Brompton is great isn't it? I ordered it to try so I'll review it next week when it will hopefully arrive. I said goodbye to my old straw handbag during my last closet purge so I definitely have room for this one if it is as nice as it looks online.
I hope you have a great time with your Mother and sister on Saturday, that sounds like fun!

    1. Thanks Dani! Yes, the straw Brompton is SO cute! I will be anxiously awaiting your review next week. I really hope it is nice IRL!

My sister moved to North Florida last year, so we don't get to see each other as much now. Needless to say, I'm really looking extra forward to our girl time this weekend. :)

  9. Thank you for the link! What I love about the J.Crew dress is the ability to dress it up with some heels or dress it down with cute flat sandals. It's so fun and such a classic style.

I totally want to try the shocking pink lipstick. Only I need to make sure I find the right shade of 'shocking' for my skintone. I don't want to scare shock someone! ;-)

    Have a great weekend!

    1. You're welcome, Pamela! I was thrilled to see the dress on you, after hearing reports about it on JCA. The color and silhouette are perfect on you, and I'm sure you will get a ton of use out of it this spring and summer. :)

      Enjoy your weekend, too!

  10. Hi FFM!

I instantly loved the brompton mini-hobo too! Especially bc I was looking at straw handbags by Tory Burch the other day and all the ones that are lined inside are at the 450 dollar mark. Ridiculous. I initially thought that I would wait to buy a TB one on sale because it's more structured...but I liked your point and DaniBP's that the Brompton is slouchy, which is actually quite unusual for a straw bag. Instantly made the bag more interesting to me! So I have ordered it! :) I'll also report back on how it turns out, if you like.
Have a great girls' weekend! You deserve it! What better way to enjoy the RL polka dot dress, indeed!

  11. FFM, Thanks for the post. Like the bag, though with J Crew lately, I am skeptical about the quality, so I'll wait for reviews before ordering. I also like those lands end dresses, and I'm waiting for a promo because I think the price is too high. Hopefully they'll have one soon. I too bought the RL dress based on your review. LOVE it! Can you recommend a nude sandal/shoe to wear with it, preferably something not more than 3 inches? Thanks.

  12. Anon@3:39: I am also very skeptical about the quality at J.Crew lately. I really do hope the bag is not a disappoint IRL. I'm still not sure about paying full price, but I'd love to try to catch it on sale if it is ends up being decent.

I'm so happy to hear that you also got the dress and love it! We really got such an amazing deal, especially for the level of quality. I haven't thought much about nude sandals this year since I already have 2 pair that will do for me now, but I would be more than happy to a little investigating and make some recommendations. I'll put them in a new post either tomorrow or Sunday. :)

  13. Hi FFM, I was able to try on the navy eyelet dress from Lands End yesterday and it is lovely! The material is thick and it is fully lined and has pockets. Definitely adding it to the wish list. I also got the awesome RL polka dot dress which I agree is awesome. I wish I had a bigger closet....starting to run out of room :(
