A Little This, A Little That...

Elizabeth Taylor was just so absolutely gorgeous...

I am still searching for a Hawaiian-print skirt to recreate this outfit from my 'Love This...' post here back in January. I have checked several local vintage shops, numerous online stores, as well as Ebay but haven't had any luck so far...anyone else find one yet?

The photo in this Polyvore set was also featured in one of my 'Love This...' posts here back in November of 2010, and I still love this look to this day. In fact, I have worn different recreated versions of it ever since. This is my latest inspired look which I just wore yesterday...
(My dress and watch are both from Target 2010, and look very similar to the ones in the set, except that the sleeves on my dress are a bit longer. My belt is a similar one from J.Crew 2010.)

My youngest had a dental appointment on Tuesday, so I took advantage of the waiting room time to look through the latest edition of Lucky Magazine, and came across three items from J.Crew. The Edie Purse in 'Flame' is shown on the 'Master This: Red on Red' page above.

The Perfect shirt in check Thomas Mason® fabric in 'green gingham' is shown on the 'Tomboy Style Essentials' page...

There is also a cobalt blue striped two-piece swimsuit shown in the 'Lucky Guide to Swimsuits section'. It isn't available online right now though...does anyone remember seeing it yet, or is it possibly a new arrival yet to come?

Speaking of J.Crew...most of you probably already know that there is a 'Secret Sale' going on right now, and shoppers can save an extra 30% off sale items with code SHOPNOW at checkout. Most of the merchandise is Final Sale, but there are also many Promo-priced items that are eligible for the extra 30% off, as well.

For those of you who aren't familiar with Promo-priced items, they are select pieces that J.Crew marks down to a 'Promotional Price' for a short amount of time. Then after a week or so (sometimes longer), they either go back up to full-price or move on into Final Sale. The really nice thing about the Promo-priced items is that they receive the extra % off, but they aren't Final Sale even when the discount is applied...gotta love that!

I try my best to keep the Promo-priced items list updated each week, and you can see the current one here. (All the items on the list are eligible for the extra 30% off SHOPNOW 'Secret' sale.)

I also want to mention, that if you aren't yet following me on Facebook or Twitter, I would encourage you to do so. I often post information on both sites about sales and also share promo codes that don't get their own post here on the blog due to time constraints. You can click through my Facebook or Twitter links on the right sidebar above to follow me if you like. (I also try to post the sales and promo codes on the blog sidebar, so if you prefer to check my blog daily, you should find them there, as well.)

In other sale related news...the Kate Spade New York Friends & Family Sale takes place Friday 4.13.12 and Saturday 4.14.12. Shoppers will save 25% off their purchase with code FFSPR12 at checkout. Is anyone planning to make a purchase? Here are a few of my favorites:

*Pippa Dress. My size is already sold out...so sad.

*Shaelynn top. I'm sure this would be longer on those of us who aren't model height.

*Jill Skirt. This reminds me a lot of the Sterling skirt from J.Crew, but in a warm weather fabric and color, which J.Crew hasn't yet offered.

*Topliner Trench...love the contrast trim.

*Fingers Doris Dress. (The 'Fingers' print was featured in last week's You Look Very Familiar...Have I Seen You Some Place Before? for its similarity to the Fanfare Print at J.Crew.)

So what have you been up to this week? Do you have any special plans for the weekend? Please do share...I always love to hear from you! :)

xoxo,

  1. Oh that top pic just kills me in its femininity. Love. Thanks so much for the tip abou the Kate Spade F&F sale. I'm likely not getting anything, as I've been partaking of the J.Crew secret sales. I totally thought the same of the Jill skirt -- that it reminds me of the Sterling Skirt -- and was going to mention it to you! :)

    1. Hi shopwithm! That first picture is gorgeous, isn't it? I really hope KS comes out with more colors in the Jill skirt. I hope to give it a try soon, and if it works well, I could easily see wanting it in more than one color. :)

  2. Have you tried Etsy for a Hawaiian print skirt? I thought THIS ONE looked similar but it's likely too large for you. Maybe something else there would work.

  3. Hi. I owe you for that Ralph Lauren dress you pointed out a few weeks ago so I am making it my mission to help find a skirt. I found a medium skirt for $19 that again is similar but not quite right (maybe you could get it altered). It's on vendio -- Anthropologie palm tree skirt (I think its still available). I have never bought from this site/vendor so proceed w/ caution. I will continue looking though. Also, I was looking at Talbots dresses in the New Arrivals section this am and I thought maybe you would be interested (nothing there like your Hawaiian skirt though).

    1. Anon @8:09am: Thank you so much! The Anthro skirt is really cute! I could probably have it altered to fit without too much difficulty, too. I wish I could contact the seller to find out the actual measurements, but can't find their information. I've never purchased from Vendio, either, so I'm going to think about it a bit. Thank you again so much for your help! :)

    2. Hi, I looked at this site a little more closely and I would not order. I should have inspected more before commenting. However, how about the kahakai skirt at Anthropologie. It's $68 full price.

    3. Hi anon@ 8:09/9:06! Well, I got super busy yesterday and never did place the order on Vendio. Thank you for stopping back by to warn me. I will heed your advice and not order the skirt from there. The Kahakai skirt is really cute. I'm going to try to get to the mall next week and check it out in person. Thanks again for your help! :)

  4. Zara has a skirt in a very similar print but it's a mini and chiffon (not sure if you can size up. Anyway it's this one. Maybe they will come up with a longer version. Otherwise it reminds me a lot of the JCrew postcard print sundress from a few years ago (orange and green)

    1. Thanks Ema! I saw that one online at Zara last month and have been hoping that they'll eventually offer a longer version without all the extra fabric detail in the front. Please do keep me posted if you end up seeing one in the store. :)

  5. Just found it on ebay, it's this one. I remember trying this and it fit small, so maybe you can get away with the M. you can easily transform it into a skirt but it will be pretty as is with a chambray shirt tied on it. Hope it helps!

    1. Ema, I have always loved that print from J.Crew, and almost purchased the exact dress several years ago from Ebay. Thank you for the link...I may just go for it. :)

  6. Since you asked on my blog, I thought I'd comment here regarding Brooks Brothers sales. I left the comment there too, in case others are interested.

On April 19&20 there will be 15% off in-store in support of Make A Wish Foundation. 10% of sales is donated to MAW. Unfortunately it is not applicable on Black Fleece.

A couple of weeks ago they had the Preferred Customer Event that offered savings of 15% using any payment other than the Brooks card and 25% if you use the Brooks card. I don't have a Brooks card (or any store cards) but I am considering it if I can save 25%.

Last year there were 25% off F&F promos May 6-9 and September 22-29. Black Fleece was included in those promos. It's likely there will be another F&F coming up and I will put up a post when that happens, you can also sign up for the emails.

Once the next season's new arrivals start appearing, the current line gets reduced by anywhere from 20-40%. By the end of the season it is 50% and then BB will occasionally offer up to 70% off, but some styles are excluded and remain discounted by only 50%.

    Hope that helps!

    1. Hi Julie! It's great to 'see' you! I've been wondering where you were, and hope everything has been ok with you! :)

The Kati cardigan in turquoise is very pretty! I agree that the KS F&F is very tempting...not sure if I'll get anything yet or not.

  9. I love the jcrew bikini, I have not seen it online unless I missed it.
Thanks again for all your help "Disney Wardrobe", I am finally packed and ready to go.

I received my DVF wrap dress and while it looked really nice I did not think it was worth full price, so back it went.

  10. I noticed someone suggested Etsy. You could also have someone on Etsy or elsewhere make one for you. Fabric stores (espec here in FL) always have tropical print fabric, and there are lots of cute (and easy) skirt patterns. Nice thing about having a skirt made is they are super easy to fit.

  11. Thanks anon@8:39am...that is a fantastic idea! I sew a bit, so I could possibly do it (if I could find the time), and my mother is an excellent seamstress, so between the two of us, making one is very possible if I find a fabric that I like. Thanks again for the suggestion! :)
