A Little This, A Little That...

Love this photo of Christy Turlington taken in 1992...the entire look is so pretty and feminine. I think this entire look could easily be worn today.

Love this entire outfit, too...I would wear it. How about you?

For the readers who asked about the top that Olivia is wearing, and the handbag she is carrying in this photo that I posted here this past Saturday...I found out that her top is the Meadow Flower top from Ann Taylor (available here for $98), and her handbag is the Gerard Darel 24 Hour Woodstock raffia bag (available for purchase on his website here).

Did you all check out the New Arrivals at J.Crew this week? See anything you're interested in?

Not much for me this time, although I do think the

and Arrowhead ikat maxiskirt are cute.

I really like the silhouette of the Dizzy anchors dress. It reminds me of this one that Tory Burch released a little while ago. Too bad J.Crew doesn't offer it in a solid color or another print like polka-dots or perhaps a pretty floral...maybe in the next rollout or two?

Along with the New Arrivals, there were a lot of items that were marked to Promo-price this week, including the
Collection Icon Trench, Schoolboy Blazer in Eyelet, and Silk Bow Cami

I have updated both the Women's and Men's Promo-priced Items lists this week. You can see the Women's updated list here, and the Men's updated list here. :)

Speaking of J.Crew... one of the New Arrivals receiving a lot of interest from the JCA community is the Pom Pom Confetti Top. If you aren't already aware, this is a recreation of the Confetti Bateau Top from 2007, except that the original version was part of the J.Crew Collection, it didn't have an exposed zipper like the new one does, and it only came in white. I actually did buy the original version but ended up returning it because the neckline just wasn't flattering on me, unfortunately. It was such a gorgeous and well made top...

The Confetti top isn't the first piece that J.Crew has brought back recently. There is the Lana Cami

which is a recreation of the Joelle Cami from 2008. (I owned this one too.)

Of course we cannot forget the Hacking jacket in tipped double-serge wool
which is a recreation of the original Double-faced wool Lexington jacket. (I still own this one...love it, too!)

So this got me thinking...if J.Crew is going to continue to bring back items from the archives, which one will be next? Could it be the Talitha Patchwork cami, or possibly the Taffeta Rugby skirt? Will the quality and construction be worthy of holding a resemblance to the original? Will there then be a third version made for the Factory store?

What are your thoughts? Do you like it that J.Crew is bringing back items from the Archives? What piece do you think will be brought back next? Is there any item that you missed out on in previous years that you would like them to remake?

To see even more items that have recently been 'brought back', check out J.CrewJD's post "Old vs. New" here.

Did you all have a enjoyable Memorial Day weekend? We took advantage of the long weekend to head back over to the Gulf Coast. This time my hubby was able to go with us, and my parents even joined us for a couple days, too.  (Plus we actually got to spend some time down on the beach this trip, as well as swimming in the pool, both of which the boys thoroughly enjoyed.)

The weather was gorgeous on the coast for the entire time, which was not only nice for us, but also for all the couples who got married this past weekend. We have a good view of the beach, and get to watch several weddings each time we go over since they are extra popular this time of year. We actually saw 5 weddings from Saturday to Monday this time...it was a busy wedding weekend.

Getting to watch all of the weddings is always fun for me, as I love to see the wedding dresses, bridesmaid dresses, and colors each bride chooses for her wedding party. Some go traditional with black tuxes for the men, and long dresses for the bridesmaids, while others go with more of a 'beach-theme' opting for shorter dresses for the women, and light colored suits, or khakis for the men.

My personal favorite for the beach weddings are the just below the knee to tea-length dresses for the bridesmaids done in a pretty summery color such as coral, bright pink, or a pretty blue, and khakis with a white button-down shirt for the groom and groomsmen. What about you? Do you have a favorite?

That's it for now...

So what have you been up to this week? Do you have any plans for the upcoming weekend? Please do share! I always love to hear from you! :)

xoxo,

  1. I love Christy's outfit. I would totally wear it today too. I have the original Confetti top from 2007. I love it and get lots of compliments. It is made very well. I would not buy today's version as I think it is too trendy with the exposed zipper and I would guess it is not up to the 2007 quality. But, on the other hand, if I had missed it and wanted it it so nice that JCrew is remaking some old favorites:)

  2. I didn't even realize there were some new items on the J. Crew site. I see the hologram pencil skirt, I think that's new. I know the matching jacket sold out early on. Nothing for me, unless there is a promo. I love Christy's outfit and the one under it, FFM. So summery.

  3. Hi FFM, Interesting about the pom-pom/confetti re-make. I like the blue color but the exposed zipper, hmm not sure... I think we'll see a couple of pieces each season from the "archives" at J Crew. I'm also wondering what's next!
I've had a busy week planting my vegetable garden and purging my closet once more. I have a whole pile of things for the consignment as well as a big bag to donate. I do like the process I have to say.
It sounds like you and your family have been having some fun, I'm so happy. And you know I like the Gulf Coast! I was hoping to get down in the fall but my husband is booked solid through January with hearings. We'll have to see if a window opens up, if so I'll pounce on it.
I hope you have a great weekend!

  4. I love Christy's outfit and I am going to try to recreate it with the pink lengthening rays skirt. I have been trying to figure out what to wear it with and I think this combo with the striped shirt would be cute!

  5. Oh, I remember that photo of Christy Turlington! She looks so gorgeous and that outfit is perfection. I was (and still am) a huge fan of hers - when I was in high school, I would scavenge fashion magazines and collect photos of her. Hope you have a great weekend!

  6. I love all the images, thank you like always for the eye candy. Confetti top is on my wishlist I shopped occasionally at J.Crew in 2007 but it was just one of the stores and I don't remember that top.

  7. I love your pics. Christy Turlington always looks amazing and her outfit is gorgeous. Funny, I have the Confetti Bateau Top as well as the Joelle Cami and have completely forgotten about them. I will have to put them in the front of my closet this season and wear them. The quality, fit, fabric and the construction of the Hacking jacket in tipped double-serge wool which I picked up at the Clearance center is a breath of fresh air. I am getting very selective about what I purchase from J Crew these days. I appreciate that they are bringing back many of the JCA's favorite styles this year, but they need to step up the quality and fabric to win this J Crew old timer back. I am enjoying the lovely, classic pieces that you are featuring on your blog as alternatives to J Crew.

  8. Ohhh I never snagged a Lana Cami and wanted one sooo badly at the initial outing back in the day--the plum one had my name written ALL OVER IT! Luve Christy Turlington--insanely gorgeous gorgeous gorgeous-- and that outfit def. could be worn today.
The confetti top looks sooo cute--I'll have to check it out! Ohhh I am fond of the Gulf Coast--Bradenton Beach, Sarasot, Anna Maria Island--my old residence!
