A Little This, A Little That...

Still Love This...

(I first shared this photo of Giovanna Battaglia here back in December of 2010.)

And This...

Absolutely Stunning...

This Too...

Viv and Anna - such a lovely photo...

So interesting to see it from a different perspective.

Same with this Chanel jacket...

Love seeing it worn off the runway and styled in a different way.

On another note...doesn't it seem like an increasing number of celebrities are spotted wearing J.Crew these days?

Diane Kruger is wearing the Zigzag Sequin Tee in the photo above. What are your thoughts? Do you like it on her? How about paired with the leather pants? How would you wear it if you owned it?
(I reviewed the tee here).

Speaking of J.Crew...there are a handful of New Arrivals on the website today...see anything you like? Nothing for me this time...instead, I am anxiously awaiting the return of the Sterling Skirt in September.

Yes! You did read that correctly! I have confirmation that J.Crew is bringing it back, and in new colors even...isn't that fabulous news? The new Sterling Skirt colors for 2012 will be Black, Retro Jade, Heather Acorn (offered last year), and Crimson Maple, all of which will debut in September. Then in November they will debut Heather Carbon (offered last year), Sheer Mint, and Autumn Coral...cannot WAIT to see all these new colors! How about you? Are you excited to hear the Sterling Skirt is not only going to be brought back this year, but in new colors, as well?

Also, just a little reminder that there is Free Shipping on orders of $100+ with code SHIP100 until 8.12.12. There were a lot of new Promo-priced items and markdowns this week. I've updated both the Women's and Men's list, which you can see here and here respectively.

That's it for now...

So what have you been up to this week? Do you have any special plans for the weekend? Please do share...I always love to hear from you! :)

xoxo,

  1. That picture of Viv and Anna always makes me smile. That's the picture that inspired us to find the Angela Caputi bracelets! I just wore mine yesterday, in fact.

I had no idea there were new items on the J. Crew site. I'll go peek, see if any mesh with my fall shopping list.

    1. I just wore my bracelet yesterday too, Desert Flower! :)

There aren't a large amount of new arrivals today, but there does seem to be one or two new things in each category. Some of the things that have been 'hidden' this past week are online now, such as the Schoolboy blazer in Velvet.

  2. Great picks. Wouldn't it be wonderful to have a place to wear the yellow and white dress coat/coat dress?

    1. thatdamngreendress: I thought it was pretty neat, too. It seems rare that we get to see that angle in any of the street style pics.

Yippee is right! I am super excited! :)

  4. I cannot get that brown polka dot shirt dress off my mind. So effortlessly elegant and chic. In my climate (Atlanta), that is a nearly year-round dress. Have you seen anything like it in stores or online? I thought I remember seeing a commenter on this blog mention something about a seamstress on etsy who would make one, but I haven't been able to find that old comment. Yes, I'm on a mission to find this dress. Can you help?

    1. Hi Amy! I am continuously looking for a similar dress, but still have not come across one. You are correct, Michelle P. had found an Etsy seller to make her two of the replica dresses, but I never heard back from her as to if they worked out or not. I did find that post with the comments, and left one for her in case she is still subscribed to the thread. I will let you know if I hear anything back, and in the meantime I will continue to search for a similar dress. I will be sure to share it here on the blog if I find one. :)

  5. Oh my gosh! You mean the man who drives the bus at JC actually read my bleeding emails last year to bring out the Sterling skirt in more colors?! YAH! I"m ALL over it! I love that skirt and can't wait to wear it. I've got so many pencil skirts I look forward to buying another color in the Sterling. Yah! Thanks for letting us know!

    1. You're welcome straycat! Yes, I was told that the Sterling skirt sold well and was so popular that they decided to bring it back. I also made the suggestion that they offer the silhouette in some of the prints that they make the café capris in, and was told they will definitely look into doing something like that in the future. :)

    2. FFM....I would love the Sterling skirt design in prints! I get so frustrated when they use a cute print on a pair of teeny tiny shorts...which I too old to wear....and not on a skirt or a pair of capris as well. Thanks so much for giving them the idea!!! Did you buy the Front Pleat Skirt? I loved that silhouette too and bought it in both colors.

  6. Hi FFM - Thank you very much for the info on the Sterling Skirt! I admired it last fall but was in my third trimester and thought that I'd miss out on in forever. Glad to hear it's coming back - it's such a great shape!

    1. silver_lining: You're welcome! I'm glad that you'll get the chance to try this time, and in even more colors, too! I will definitely be getting the black, and at least one more color, depending on how they look IRL. :)

  7. Amy....I too would love to find a flattering shirtdress. I look constantly for them and never seem to find them. Of course, I can't buy Jason Wu or other designers, but I'd love it if other affordable lines would make them. They are so easy and elegant. Let's hope someone can help us!

I love these looks! So elegant!!!

  9. Thanks for the info regarding the sterling skirt. I missed it last year because the colors duplicated what I have. I wonder what Crimson Maple looks like-and sheer mint-I'm very happy to have a skirt option besides a pencil. yay!

    1. You're welcome Julie! I'm assuming the color Crimson Maple will be similar to the color of the tree with the same name. A Google Search shows a couple of slight color variations, but it looks like it will be a wine/burgundy/purple shade. J.Crew has a Perfect shirt in Sheer Mint, so perhaps the skirt will be similar to that shade.

  10. Nice picks, as always. I missed the Sterling too so will be more alert as I need a non-pencil day skirt. Wonder if sizing will be like the pencils, length looks good for us taller folks.

    1. Thank you Lane! Last year most people sized down one or two sizes from the pencil skirt size, so I'm assuming this year will be the same. :)

  11. Hearing that they are bringing back the Sterling Skirt literally made my day. Can't wait to see the new colors, and will definitely purchase the black. Thanks for the heads up!! Love your blog...I am a huge lover of all things Jackie and Lee...thanks for sharing all of the old shots, and all of the JC news and promo info too!

  12. Hmm, the No. 2 pencil skirt in Heather Acorn was on my fall list, but I have so many pencil skirts that perhaps this A-line would be a nice change. How do you think it would look with black tights and riding boots?

  13. How nice that the Sterling skirt will return, I know you love that one. I hope the quality has been maintained. It was a disaster on my figure so I'll pass but I'm sure it will be popular.

    1. Thanks xoxo...I do love it! I am also hoping the quality has been maintained. It will be very disappointing if not, especially since they are offering more colors this year.

  14. Just went back and saw your posts on this skirt from last year--and saw that you looked great with the riding boots. Also glad to hear the fit tips and that it works for an hourglass figure. My waist is two sizes smaller than my hips and I always have to have my skirts altered, but assuming fit is the same as last year (a big IF) it sounds like I can size to my waist.

    1. Hi Hexicon! I apologize that it took awhile to respond (we were at a friend's house most of the day), but I'm glad you were able to see my previous posts regarding the skirt. I wore both the Heather Acorn and Heather Carbon with riding boots and tights last year. Every time I wore the skirts I received numerous compliments, too. They really are very flattering and quite comfortable to wear, too. I think you will really like this one, especially with your hourglass figure, and I don't think you will need alterations either. :)

    2. I wore my skirts with boots.oxfords and loafers and tights and it was perfect. It's so very "English country house"....I love that look! If the Queen would have worn it in the 50's, I'm going to like it! Can't wait to see the new colors....I think Crimson Maple sounds great!

  15. Hi FFM,

I have tickets this weekend for a local green space fundraiser party. Also a similar multi-charity food tasting benefit on another weeked that's very popular now. I love the silent auctions at these events. Last year we won a weekend at a luxury condo in Gulf Shores. And sometimes there's nice jewelry and home things to bid on. Anyway it's great for the charities and fun for us! I get to wear some of my summer dresses that have been hanging in my closet waiting for me! The attire is "cool casual" on both events. Have a great weekend!! :)

  20. So excited about the Sterling! I missed it last year but certainly is this year. It seems so much more practical for my lifestyle than the wool pencil skirts. I can pull pencil skirts off in the summer, but not with all the layers and warm boots necessary in cold midwestern winters. Thanks for the really notification!

  22. I worn my Acorn Sterling non stop last year. I plan to get the Crimson Maple color and I would also like the Retro Jade. I would have to see the Jade in person. I am sure I will love the color, but I am afraid it might be too much color!!

    1. Hi Leader Girl! I wore my Sterling constantly last year, too. Did you happen to read about the ordeal with this year's version over on JCA today? J.Crew has changed the entire shape and made it basically like a looser pencil skirt, so it may not even work for those of us that loved last year's fit. I am really disappointed and very frustrated over the whole situation.

  23. How does the sterling skirt fit (for example, compared to the usual wool pencil skirts)? Looks very cute-- I seemed to miss the sterling skirt before! Does it run large or small for J. Crew? I wear two different sizes in J. Crew skirts depending on the skirt.

    1. Hi ldc! I'm not sure how this year's Sterling is going to fit since it is designed differently from last year's, but it should be smaller in the waist, then flair out slightly, not straight like the pencil. My Sterling skirts last year were larger than the pencil skirts, and I sized down two sizes from my pencil skirt size. You can see last year's skirt on me here. The measurements I have gotten on my sizes in this year's Sterling show that it is very close in size to the No.2 pencil, except that the sweep is 7" wider than the pencil (but still 3" less than last year's Sterling). I would suggest asking the online chat rep to give you garment measurements for the Sterling in your two J.Crew skirt sizes and decide from there. HTH! :)
