Monday Musings...

This past weekend was extremely busy  for me, and I feel as if I have been going none stop since Friday. This is the first moment I've had to actually sit down at the computer to catch up on emails, blog reading, etc., so for those who have left comments or emailed me, I apologize for my delay in responding, but will be doing so throughout the rest of today. :)

Friday the boys and I went to our friends house for a short playdate, then the three youngest and I ran a couple of errands before heading home for dinner. We made a quick trip out to J.Crew so that I could return the Jeweled-Collar Sweater, that I had received on Wednesday. The fit was very 'off' for me, and not flattering for my figure at all. It was too snug through the shoulders and arms, yet very roomy through the body/torso, so sizing up would not have helped. I was quite disappointed, as this was one of the items on my Fall Shopping List, and I was looking forward to wearing it once the weather cools down. I'm sure it will look lovely on other JCAs, but sadly, it did not work out for me, and has now been removed from my list.

On Saturday I had the catered event to help my friend with, and that was an all-day affair, with decorating, serving food, and then cleaning up after it was over. We served close to 400 people that day, and I was completely exhausted by the time I arrived home after 11pm. Standing on your feet for that many hours requires wearing comfortable shoes, so I wore these clogs from Lands' End. I finally received them a couple weeks ago, after being on waitlist since April. They are incredibly comfortable to wear, and a really nice alternative to the Dansko pair that I had tried earlier this year. To me, the Danskos just were not comfortable enough for the price, but the pair from Lands' End felt good from the moment I slipped them on. Plus they only cost me $38, since I purchased them during one of their % off promos...gotta love that!

As I mentioned in this post last Thursday, yesterday was my eldest son's 14th birthday. We spent the day celebrating with a trip to BJ's Restaurant & Brewhouse, birthday present shopping (he likes to go pick out the gifts himself), and then of course ice cream and cake. :)

Here is the dress I wore for the birthday festivities:

It is a beaded Jacquard dress from Laundry by Shelli Segal that I found at Neiman Marcus earlier this summer. I fell in love with the neckline and silhouette, as it reminds me of the dress that Jean Shrimpton wore in the photo I shared in this post back in May (it's the third photo from the top), and also something that Jackie O would have worn.

Here you can better see the detail of the beaded neckline, and how perfectly it matches with my Jack Rogers Zsa Zsa Sandals in Platinum that I wore with it.

On another note, I wanted to let you know that Anthropologie just moved a lot of their spring and summer merchandise to sale. Several of the dresses that I have reviewed in the past month or so are now on sale, or have received a second cut. They are the Revisited Impressionist Dress -my review here, Morning Story Dress -my review here, and Eyelet Aurelie Shift -my review here. (You can see the entire list of new sale items in Roxy's sale post here, btw.)

I also want to remind you that tomorrow is the last day to receive an Extra 30% off Promo-priced and Final Sale items at J.Crew. The Edie Purse is now on promo, as well as the Collection Icon Trench, and many other items. You can see the Women's updated Promo-Priced items list here, and the Men's updated list here. :)

That's it for now...

What did you do this past weekend? Anyone make a trip to J.Crew or Anthropologie? If so, did you check out any of the new arrivals? Are you planning to take advantage of the sales at either store? Please do share! I always love to hear from you!

xoxo,

  1. Oh my Goodness! You had quite the weekend! Happy Birthday to your son! 14 is such a great age! My babies are 17 and 20 now - it goes by so quickly!!!!

I love this dress on you and those jack rogers sandals are too die for! I am actually going to go check them out (I know - not supposed to get caught up in seeing things on other blogs, but truly, they are so special!)

My weekend was awesome. I am posting the beginning of my fall/winter wardrobe redesign. You will be glad I am following your advice! and many thanks for it!!!

    1. Thanks WMM! Time really does go by so fast! I think it seems to go by even quicker once you have kids, too. We had a really nice time yesterday. He said it was one of his best birthdays ever, but then I think that really had a lot to do with his birthday gifts. :)

The Zsa Zsa sandals are gorgeous IRL, and super comfortable, too. I also own them in Gold and wear them all the time.

I will be over to visit in a little while. I can't wait to see your wardrobe redesign! :)

  2. Yikes! What a weekend. My oldest is 14 - a great age in my opinion :-)
The dress is amazing! I love it and looks wonderful on you!
My weekend was low key. Lots of Olympics and rest. I did venture to the mall with a friend and checked out some new arrivals at J Crew. They had the Edie Grand in a black and camel color block - very cute. They also had the Janey flats-cute IRL, but no padding at all. I tried one on - no shoes for me yet on the left foot, and I like it, but would need a gel insert. At Nordstrom I fell in like with 2 DVF handbags-the Drew Connect and Harper Hobo (for my aspirational life), and these shoes, http://shop.nordstrom.com/s/attilio-giusti-leombruni-grosgrain-oxford/3301730?origin=PredictiveSearch&fashionColor=&resultback=0. I'm planning my fall and winter purchased around needed accessories first. What do you think of a dressier handbag? Over the top or easy to get away with? I'm on the fence :-)
    Take good care!

    1. Julie - those shoes are AMAZING!!!!! I gave away so many of my summer shoes today - haven't even gotten out my fall/winter ones yet. Those shoes would go the distance I think! were they comfortable?

    2. Thank you Julie! :) I'm so glad to hear you were able to get out for a little bit! I've been thinking about you, and was planning to stop by your blog to check in on you today...it's wonderful to hear you're feeling better. :)

I've been interested in seeing the Edie Grand in the black and camel. What did you think of the leather? Is the camel color pretty IRL? I'm assuming it looks different than it does online, is that correct?

I love both of the DVF bags, and the shoes are gorgeous, too! I think you could get away with a dressier handbag, but it would depend on the bag itself. Are you thinking about the Drew Connect? You could easily carry it, or the Harper Hobo when wearing a tee and blue jeans.

    3. Hi-Thanks for your input. The Drew Connect is more practical, but I don't like the colors. Neimans has it in black, but I haven't seen it. The Harper Hobo is my favorite-my birthday gift cards will come in handy - it is quite a splurge.
Regarding the Edie Grand, it is the same color combination as the Edie attache, and the same leather. The length of the shoulder strap wasn't the right for me-not quite long enough. Hopefully the black and tan version will be online with the Sept. roll outs so you can get a better look.

  3. I love the dress. It definitely has that "Palm Beach" vibe, and it is very flattering on you. Good thing the Jewel Collar sweater was way off in the fit department. It is esier to cross something off of a list if you know it will never work, harder if there is that least little chance!

    1. Thank you KnitYarns! Yes, I'm glad I tried the sweater right from the get go. I had set aside the funds for it, so now I will have extra for the other items on my list. :)

  4. I am so happy to be learning more about you! I feel like you've opened up more on the blog. Since we're in the same city, I love connecting this way. Happy birthday to your 14-year old. I have a 16-year old and a 6-year old! Time flies...http://magpiestyle.net

  5. Wow, you look stunning in that dress! Does the Laundry Shelli Segal brand run true to size? What about the Jack Rogers sandals too? How do they fit? not that I'll copy all of your stuff..! but I love the dress :) I don't know if I would look as well in white. I can wear off-white better. Your son's birthday sounded great! I would love some ice cream and cake anytime! It's neat that he likes his tradition of picking out his presents. He must treasure his stuff more that way! Have a wonderful day!

    1. Thank you so much Alie! I love the dress too! It is fully lined, excellent quality, and constructed very well. This is my first Laundry by Shelli Segal purchase, but from what I can tell so far the line is similar in sizing to J.Crew. I would say to go with your J.Crew dress size if you plan on trying something. As for the Jack Rogers, they also run TTS. I wear a 9.5, and that is the size I always get. Hope this helps! Let me know if you have any other questions! :)

  6. The dress is very flattering on you. Glad to hear your son's birthday was a success:) My daughter turned 11 and we went to the tax free weekend shopping at the outlet with my hubby. I was so glad to hear that my values are rubbing off on her. At the JCrew outlet she tried on many things. She got down to two items that she really liked and looked great on her (all by herself). I was planning on buying them both as one was a crystal button sweater and the other a rolling ruffles sequin top but she said, "Mom, I don't really need both. I just need one and I'm trying to decide." Very happy to hear that....we discussed needs and wants some more and the pricing of each and using my rewards card....and ended up with both b/c she does truly need them. So proud:)

  7. Happy Birthday to your oldest son! Your dress is perfect, I just love it with the sandals.
You've been so busy, I hope your week isn't too hectic. I was at JCrew in Atlanta on Saturday and nothing caught my eye. I did check out the brand Vince at Nordstrom's, the basic shirts and tanks are so well designed. I've been curious about the brand ever since you posted on your black turtleneck by Vince.
I am keeping my Fall Shopping List in mind thanks to you! It has really helped me narrow down any shopping I might do to add to my fall colors.

    1. Welcome back Dani, and thank you! Well, this week is continuing to be extremely hectic as well, but I am surviving. ;)

I hope you had a wonderful time in Atlanta! It's nice that you were able to visit the mall to try some things on. I'm sure Vince will offer the turtlenecks again this year, or at least something similar. I love mine, and look forward to bringing them into rotation again this fall.
