A Little This, A Little That...

Love This...

And This...

Absolutely Stunning...

This Too...

Are you looking forward to the official arrival of fall? I am. Even though it will not cool down here significantly for another couple of months, I still cannot help but love this time of year, and anxiously await the cooler days so that I can comfortably wear my blazers, sweaters, and skirts/dresses with knee boots again.

Speaking of fall...I have added a couple of items to my Fall Shopping List...

Collection Viv Calf-hair Flats from J.Crew...so absolutely gorgeous in person, and I love the pointy-toe...so chic! These will be one of the key pieces of my Fall Wardrobe, and many of my outfits will be styled using them as the focal point.

Along with the Viv Calf-hair flats, I really hope to be able to acquire the matching handbag. Yes...I do like to match my handbag and shoes. I feel it creates an overall polished and 'finished' look to any outfit, even if it is just a casual one. :)

Here is just one of the ways I plan to wear the two together in an outfit (if I do end up being able to get both)...
Leopard and Pearls...

In other J.Crew-related news...today is the last day to take advantage of the Extra 30% Off Final Sale MUSTSHOP promotion taking place. In case you do not already know, J.Crew Promo-Priced Items also receive the 30% discount but are NOT Final Sale...gotta love that! You can see my updated list of Promo-priced items for the Women here and for the Men here.

So the plans for deep cleaning my house this week completely fell through. I somehow injured my back...not sure if it is a pulled muscle or a pinched nerve, but I have been experiencing a lot of pain, and have spent a good deal of time lying in bed this week. Needless to say, I am quite frustrated, as I really wanted to have the house 'spic and span' when we start our school year on Monday, not to mention that I had numerous errands to run this week, and haven't been able to do them, either.

I know that resting up and allowing my body to heal is best, but I really have such a hard time doing that knowing there are so many things for me to get done. My hubby and boys have been wonderful about helping keep the house picked up (most of the time) and meals going. However, there are some things that simply require my attention, so I am very anxious to get back on my feet again and take care of them.

What about you? Do you have a hard time relaxing when you need to? Does it frustrate you when your plans do not happen the way you had intended?

On a more positive note...my 'down time' this week has allowed me extra time not only for planning out my school lessons, but also for watching many more episodes of the British Television Detective drama Midsomer Murders that I began a couple months ago. Murder Mystery is one of my favorite genres, and this series has been quite enjoyable to watch. Do you also enjoy a good Murder Mystery, or do you prefer another type of show? Have you seen any episodes of this particular series?

That's it for now...

So what have you been up to this week? Do you have any special plans for the upcoming weekend? Please do share! I always love to hear from you! :)

xoxo,

  1. I am so sorry to hear about this injury! I know exactly how you feel, it's so so frustrating when the to-do list is a mile long.
Well I had big plans this week too but I've been slow to accomplish my own list. I've been quite tired and have had a headache due to a neck injury last weekend (something I did while cleaning). Mine is not as bad as yours from the sounds of it, I hope you do take it easy and give yourself all of the rest you need.
Fun that you've had something good to watch! I have just received Homeland on dvd and I might watch that this afternoon.
Those boys of yours sound very helpful and good! That must be helping you immensely.
    Take care FFM!
Okay now I'm off to look at your shoes...

    1. Thank you Dani. I am feeling better today than I did a couple of days ago, so it seems that the time spent taking it easy is helping. I hope you start feeling better, as well! It sounds like you should also take some time to rest, and perhaps watching your new Homeland dvd this afternoon is the perfect time to do it! :)

  2. Sad to hear you are hurt. This is such a busy time of year for families, it must be so stressful for you.

I love that blue check dress in the first photo and the Viv flats are on my list too. The sizes are selling out already, did you order them yet? I was waiting for a review but I guess I'd better get on it now or miss out.

    1. Thank you xoxo. This really is a busy time for us, so not being able to get everything done that I wanted to is quite frustrating. I know it will all get done eventually, but it is still frustrating nonetheless.

The blue dress in the first photo is the Bristol Glen Plaid Dress from Tory Burch, and the coat (which I would love to own) is from TB, as well.

As for the Viv flats: I did order them two weeks ago in a size 9.5, which is my normal shoe size, but they were too small so I exchanged for the size 10. The size 10 was a good fit, but the leopard pattern on the front of the shoe was very different on each one. I am very particular about having my prints and patterns match, so I could not keep them, especially for the price paid. At that point all of the size 10s were sold out, so I wasn't able to exchange for another pair in hopes of getting a more even pattern. However, I did find a pair in my size on Ebay from paisleypetunia for a significantly lower price (I'm sure she purchased them at the J.Crew clearance store in VA), and she promised an excellent pattern match when I asked her about it, so I got them instead. I should be receiving them soon and am really looking forward to getting them. They really are very beautiful in person. As for comfort, I have only tried on the two pair that I received from J.Crew and find them to be about as comfortable as J.Crew flats usually are. I may try an insert for added comfort, but they seem as if they will be wearable without one, although probably not for extended periods of time.

I must say that I am really looking forward to having a different color of leopard shoes in my wardrobe this fall/winter. I already own many other pieces of clothing that they will work with, so they are a perfect addition. :)

  3. Hope you feel better! It is no fun being stuck in bed. I love the purse and shoes and will have to see if they fit in my list!

    1. Thank you mini! I have been up and moving around more today, so the time I've spent resting this week really seems to be helping. :)

The shoes were a splurge for me, but they do not require any other purchases in order to take their place in my wardrobe, since I already have numerous items and outfits they will work with. I am really hoping to be able to get the bag eventually, but if not, I will at least still enjoy wearing my shoes. :)

  4. OK, I had to go an order the Vivs just now because there were only 6 pair left in size 8. Would love to know what you think of the matching bag, I love to match shoes and bags when I can too. The satchel is pricey and I have J.Crew's leopard-print calf-hair Oslo bag, which was a Collection Borge Garveri piece that was also quite expensive so I'll have to have the debate with myself on the Biennial satchel.

Hope you are feeling better soon.

    1. xoxo - It didn't seem like the Vivs were selling out for quite awhile, and then as I kept watching them I noticed my 2 sizes beginning to dwindle, and now it seems that most sizes are getting limited. I'm sure it has to do with a lot of customers who received the 20 or 25% off codes using them to purchase the shoes now. I would really love to have the satchel, but like you said it is very pricey, so I'm not sure I'll be able to manage it. I would love for it to go on promo right away, and with an extra 30% off would be even better...then I would go for it! Fingers crossed on that one! :)

Thank you for the well wishes. I am definitely feeling better today than I did two days ago, so things are looking up.

  5. FFM, I was intrigued by idea of that TB sheath dress, which has also been getting some exposure as an Oprah 2012 Fashion Awards pick. Much better option IMO than JC's electric plaid, which I have not seen IRL yet. Although plaid plus sequins too showy for me and IRL I don't need any more fancy dresses. Glad to read you are on the mend. And if the bag speaks to you hope it makes your purchase list. Sounds like you would give it lots of outings.

    1. Thank you Get Fresh. :) It's too bad the TB dress was not made without sequins, too. I understand having them for those wanting to wear it as a cocktail dress, but it would have been nice to have one without for those of us wanting it as an everyday (or every now and then) dress. She does have another glen plaid dress option here, but it has leather trim and a zipper in front. I will need to see it in person before making a final decision, but as for right now I do not really care for either the trim or the zipper.

The bag has definitely been speaking to me from the moment I laid eyes on it in the Fall Lookbook preview. I just hope it doesn't disappoint IRL. I also hope that if I do still love it once I see it in person, that I am able to snag it for a really great price. :)

  6. Oh dear - I hope your back gets better soon and you baby yourself! Those mysteries sound good - I have to go look them up! I am hoping to sleep a little this weekend - I have been waking up at 4:30 all week!!! I may be too old for long distance travel!!!

But the good thing about life is that if it is not spic and span this week, there is always another one....

I am besotted with the first look, besotted! I have to get into pinterest like Dani is! that would be a good one to clip!

    1. Thank you WMM! I know that you also enjoy murder mysteries, so I think you will like these, as well. They span 13 seasons, and I am now on season 8. I'm not sure if you are able to get Amazon Prime where you live, but if you do they have all the episodes, and you can watch them for free.

I can imagine how tired you must be trying to get adjusted back to your regular schedule after all of your fabulous travels! Hopefully you can catch a nap or two this weekend. :)

The first look is so lovely, isn't it? I think you should absolutely join Pinterest...it is really quite fun, and there is so much to see! If you do sign up come join me on my Pinterest account here. I already have many of my 'Love This...' pics (including the TB one from today) on there already.

  7. Sorry you are under the weather FFM! I have pulled my back before and it's not fun! It's a sign you have been doing too much! The first outfit is like a dream.I love your admiration of old Hollywood glamour...so sophisticated, yet REAL! I have returned to work this week, and the house has already fallen apart! Also, I teach math and science, and would love to help you out if you ever need lessons/resources!

    1. Thank you Nantucket Daffodil. :) I've had back pain before, but never to this extent. I was quite busy the week before last with all of my decluttering, so there is a good chance that I overdid it this time.

I hope your first week of school is going well! Thank you for your offer to help with lessons and resources...I truly appreciate it! :)

  8. I'm so sorry to hear about your injury. I wish you a quick and thorough recovery and the strength to let go and give your family the opportunity to take care of you for this short moment in time. I'm impressed that your husband and boys are helping out. I have had a few injuries where I just had to let my plans, and schedules go, ignore the dust bunnies and relinquish control. Yes, it truly is frustrating but temporary (as long as you take care of yourself and don't push yourself beyond your limits). You are obviously such giving mother and want to give your family 100% all of the time, but your family is doing such a great job helping out and that is something to be proud of. Your school year may start out on Monday with a few extra dust bunnies, clutter, and errands to do, but on the other hand, your boys are getting a valuable life lesson by seeing how capable they are while you are healing.

Feel better and take it easy this week end. Maybe your husband can help do some of the errands that are most important.

    1. Awakening my Wardrobe - thank you so much for your well wishes, for the reminder that this is only a temporary situation, and that relinquishing control is not always as bad as it seems most of the time. I am indeed very proud and appreciative for all that my husband and boys have done for me during this time. :)

  9. Ugh, a back injury is the worst. You feel so incapacitated! I herniated a disk years ago and still remember it vividly. I hope that your recovery is swift. It's so sweet of your husband and sons to keep the household going while you rest. Although I'm sure they don't do it quite the way you would :)

I loved the images, FFM. Fall beckons to those of us in warm parts of the country, taunts us really. It is still high 90s here, I'm not sure when real fall will finally arrive.

Love the set with the Viv flats. You've given me some ideas.

  10. I hope your back has eased a little by now, I am hopeless at relaxing, I have to be ill before I can do it with any serenity. I love the pics you've chosen, I wish I had oodles of poufy skirts, they are so feminine.

  11. I hope you're feeling better. I know what you mean about having a hard time resting. It has been 6 weeks since my surgery and I'm still not 100%. I had to let a lot go and just be ok with it during the healing process-just take a deep breath, enjoy your down time and know that in the end it will all get done.
BTW-cute new items on your list ;-)

  12. Oh, it`s so hard to not be able to move around as you wish, and of course the not being able to distract yourself just makes pain and discomfort so much more unbearable.

However you`ve offered some absolutely mesmerising eye candy- I want to BE the outfits in the first two pictures!! pinning!

  13. Beautiful couture pictures. I am sorry to hear about your back. That is a miserable feeling. Thank you for the heads up about the tv show. I love a good mystery!
