Lands' End Dress Reviews: Pattern Cotton Modal Wrap Dress, Pattern Squareneck Dress, Border Stripe Faux Wrap Dress, & Polka Dot V-Neck Dress

'The Big Spring Sale' is taking place right now at Lands' End until 4.2.13. Shoppers can save up to 30% off all Dresses, Pants, Shorts, & more, plus get Free Shipping on Orders of $50+ with code JELLYBEAN pin 2502 at checkout. I purchased several dresses during the LE F&F event last month, and have a handful of reviews in case anyone is considering a purchase during this sale.

First up is the Short Sleeve Pattern Cotton Modal Wrap Dress - in Ink Blue Floral.

The description on the Lands' End website reads:

An iconic women’s dress style, a super soft fabric.
  • Soft, smooth-draping blend of cotton and rayon-modal
  • Classic full-wrap style
  • Gathers at the shoulders and sleeves soften the silhouette
  • Gentle A-line skirt
  • Falls to the knee
  • Shoulder to hem lengths: Regular, 40″; Petite, 37 1/2″
It might be the most feminine knit wrap dress we’ve offered — with pretty gathers at the shoulders and sleeves. The wrap style whittles your middle with self-fabric ties. The overlap is generous, too — keeps you covered. 58% pima cotton/38% rayon-modal/4% Lycra® spandex. Machine wash. Imported.

Oh how I adore this dress! Out of all the dresses I tried, this is by far my absolute favorite. Not only is the floral pattern and color very pretty, but it is extremely flattering on, and incredibly comfortable to wear, too. This is a versatile 'everyday' dress to wear at home, for running errands, and even out to dinner in many cases.

Sizing: I ordered the dress in an XXS Petite, and the fit is just right. Because LE tends to run on the large side, I order the petite sizing as long as the length is not too short. Thankfully the petite length on this one is 37.5 inches, which is perfect for my height of 5'4", and the dress comes to just above my knee.

Next up is the Pattern Squareneck Dress in 'Light Dew Green Print'. The description on the website reads:

Soft and pretty.
  • Soft, smooth-draping knit
  • Face-flattering square neckline
  • Shirred self-fabric belt is attached at front, hugs your waist
  • Graceful flared skirt
  • Falls to the knee
  • Shoulder to hem lengths: Regular, 40″; Petite, 37 1/2″
If you’ve never worn a square neckline, you’ll be amazed at how flattering it is. (Shows off a necklace to perfection, too!) This dress feels easy in every way. And its smooth-fitting bodice and gently flared skirt flatter every figure. 95% rayon/5% spandex. Machine wash. Imported.

This was another 'keeper' for me. I am always on the lookout for comfortable, flattering dresses to wear on a daily basis at home and for running errands, and this one fits the bill. Plus the print and colors remind me so much of 'Old School' J.Crew!

Sizing: Once again I ordered the dress in an XXS Petite, and just like the wrap dress, the fit is just right.

I also decided to give the Short Sleeve Border Stripe Faux Wrap Dress a try because I think the dress silhouette, colors, and print are really lovely. The description on the website reads:

Pretty and iconic.
  • Crisp-yet-soft stretch cotton sateen
  • Flattering-yet-secure faux wrap style
  • Dolman sleeves have a rolled cuff
  • Striped border adds interest at the hem
  • Falls to just below the knee
  • Shoulder to hem lengths: Regular, 42″; Petite, 40 1/2″
A wrap dress is so flattering. But you know what's even better? A faux wrap. Just as slimming, but you don't risk a wardrobe malfunction. Some extraordinary details here, including a border in a coordinating stripe and pretty pleats in the skirt. Dolman sleeves (no shoulder seams) and a hint of stretch in the sateen fabric make it comfortable, too. Machine wash. Imported.

The fabric and quality of the dress are both excellent. The colors are beautiful IRL, although as you can see from my pic below, the cream portion of the dress is not as light as it appears on the LE website. The dress comes without a belt, and while it can definitely be worn that way, I think it looks best when worn with a belt.

Sizing: I ordered the dress is a 0 Petite, and it was still too large for me, especially at the waist. It did fit better when belted, but flared out a bit too much for my personal liking. Sadly, it just did not work out for me overall and was returned.

The Polka Dot V-neck Dress from LE Canvas caught my eye due to the color, print, and silhouette, so I decided to also give it a try. The description reads:

This year’s vintage.
  • Smooth cotton poplin
  • Sprightly polka dot border print
  • Easy dolman sleeves
  • Invisible side zipper
  • Rope belt is included
  • 42″ from shoulder to hem
  • XS(0,2); S (4,6); M (8,10); L (12,14)
Design: The fabric name is “50s poplin print.” Seriously. A vintage look without the dust and must.

Material: 100% cotton. Machine wash. Imported.

This is yet another dress made of substantial fabric and is excellent quality. The color is an absolutely lovely shade of blue with off-white polka-dots.

Sizing: I ordered this one in a size 0, and while it fit perfectly at the bust and waist, the length was just way too long and the skirt portion was too voluminous, so it went back, as well.

All in all, I am very pleased with the quality of the dresses I ordered, even though the fit was off for me on a couple of them. In my experience, the quality at Lands' End is always excellent, and I think that they are definitely moving in the right direction when it comes to their style, print, and color offerings.

That's it for now! Have a lovely day, and Happy Shopping!!! :)

xoxo,

  1. FFM thanks for the reviews! I like all of your picks. The border stripe dress is so pretty, there's something about the pattern, it's beautiful. Too bad it was too big in the waist.
I think LE is definitely moving in the right direction, they are clearly putting some thought and effort into their dress shop.
I hope you have an excellent weekend, Happy Easter!

    1. Happy Easter M! Oh I'm so glad to hear that you also got the squareneck dress! Now I'm wishing I had bought it in both colors since it is so comfy and flattering. Hopefully they will restock and also offer it in additional colors and prints. :)

  4. FFM So glad you found some LE dresses that work for you! I was wondering about the modal wrap (your first pick but in the plain colours). How are the banded/ puff sleeves? Do you like where they hit, the way they fit your arms? Also sorry the LEC polka dot dress was a return for you too. I like it so much I want it to work well on SOMEONE ;-) But it does seem like a lot of skirt/ long, and unfortunately I think hemming would spoil the pattern. Happy Easter Sunday and glad you got through storm mostly intact.

    1. Thank you GetFresh! I hope you had a very Happy Easter, as well! :)

As for the sleeves on the wrap dress, they are more like a cap sleeve on me, even though they appear to be longer on the LE model. I actually prefer them that way though, and find them to be flattering, especially with the gathers. I really do love the dress and plan on getting one in a solid color, as well.
