Life Lately...

Life Lately...it's been almost 5 months since my last update (see it here) on our new life and adventures here in the beautiful state of Montana. A lot has happened in these past months, including the purchase of our new home, my parents visit from Florida, three birthdays, three trips to Glacier National Park, two trips to the National Bison Range, and a trip to Spokane Washington...here's a small snippet:

I celebrated my 44th birthday on May 1st, which was also my 1st official birthday in Montana. On Mother's Day we actually had snow fall at our rental house in the morning, and then headed up to Glacier National Park later on that day. It was quite a chilly day, so I was dressed in layers...

During the third week of May we took a road-trip to the Shriner's Hospital for Children in Spokane, Washington, for my son's new patient visit. As many of you already know, he had been seen at the Shriners hospital in Tampa for his cerebral palsy for many years, but now that we have moved cross-country he will be seen in Spokane going forward. The staff at the new hospital was very friendly and made his visit a very pleasant one. We all enjoyed the ride there and have now added the states of Idaho and Washington as two more that we have visited.

My parents arrived at the end of May, just in time to celebrate Memorial Day with us. They were able to stay until the beginning of August, and while they were here we visited the Kerr dam...

Glacier National Park...

The National Bison Range...

Went shopping in Whitefish, Kalispell, and Missoula...

Celebrated my oldest son's 16th birthday, my husband's 46th birthday, and frequented the local farmer's market each Friday...

We also moved into our new home mid-July and have been getting settled in. I had forgotten what a big task it is unpacking your family's entire life since the last time we moved was in 2000, and we only had one of our four boys then. It really is quite an undertaking, especially while taking care of the daily life chores of cooking, working, teaching, etc. Regardless of that, it really is nice to have a place to call our own once again, especially since it's in the state we have always dreamed of living in...Montana - "The Last Best Place".

  1. Wow! You are amazing - so busy and cheerful. I'm sure that have been many challenges but you seem to handle it wonderfully. Glad you are settled in your new home. Hoping you enjoy getting into a daily routine with kids' school, etc. I've never been to Montana-though I have a good friend there, and it looks gorgeous. It is one the long list of trips I'd love to take-just need more time and money-like everyone else I suppose.

    1. Thank you Julie! I am definitely busy...not always so cheerful, I must admit, but I do try my best to keep a positive attitude and remember to count my blessings when I do start to feel a bit overwhelmed or grumpy. It's definitely been a relief getting settled in and back to a daily routine. The boys are enjoying their schooling this year so far and seem to be adjusting to well to the move. I hope you're able to make the trip to Montana one day...it really is such a beautiful place to see! :)

  2. Hello! You definitely live in a beautiful State! My husband would love to move there but I am not sure I could handle the cold. It seems to agree with you and your family. Anyway, thank you for the update. I had been wondering if you all had found a home yet. Now you can really begin to settle in and feel like it really is your home. Please keep us posted and I thoroughly enjoy the pictures!

BTW, I received my Madewell flannel and J Crew Men's flannel shirts today. I have only had time to feel of the fabric but will try them on later and update you. The fabric is noticeably thinner flannel than I expected or than last year's men's. as I recall, JC flannel for Women has always been thin so Madewell may be just as JC has been. I was not expecting that but if they fit, I will keep them.

Thanks again for the wonderful update!!

    1. Thank you anon! Our entire family really does love it here, and it's been so nice finally getting settled in and back to a daily routine. I will be sure to keep posting updates on our new life and adventures here. :)

Thank you also for the information about the flannel shirts. Please do update me once you've had the chance to try them on. Madewell is running another promotion right now, so I may go ahead with a purchase soon. Also, you should contact them to see if they will give you a price adjustment by applying the new code.

  4. Melissa, Might I say that I feel like you are truly "home"? It may have something to do with the fact that Glacier National is my favorite place on Earth! Or the fact that when I see you now you see like YOU! Like someone who has gone on a journey, tried out a few different places, and then this stop in Montana became IT. I think we would all love a house post once you are settled in. Nothing beats a Montana vista. So happy for you. (My oldest will turn 16 in January. Where does the time go?)

    1. Thank you Monica! I do finally feel like I am truly at home. I fell in love with Montana more than 20 years ago while working on a ranch in Great Falls, and always longed to come back. I'm just so pleased to have finally returned and actually get to stay for good this time. :)

    1. Thanks Wendy! I know I'm going to enjoy your upcoming post with the glacier pics. My husband and I plan to take the boys into Canada for some sight-seeing and camping next year, so I am taking notes since Jasper isn't too terribly far from us.
