Shopping Simplified: J.Crew - Extra 30% Off Promo-Priced & Spring Sale Items + an Extra 50% Off Final Sale Styles - NEWSALE!!!

Hello everyone! It's time for another All Things Simplified Shopping post, where I take the work out of sale shopping for you! My 'simplified shopping' posts will include information on the deal or % off, promo-priced items, and/or sale markdowns, and/or my personalized picks for retailers that are running current sale promotions. This time the simplified shopping is at J.Crew...

J.Crew is offering an Extra 30% Off Promo-Priced Items & Spring Sale Styles, plus an Extra 50% Off Final Sale Styles with code NEWSALE at checkout until 3.30.14. They have done a 'switch-up' on the Promo-priced items at J.Crew this week...a lot of new items have been marked to promo-price, while others have gone back to regular-price or marked down to sale price (making them final sale).

For those of you who aren't familiar with Promo-priced items, they are select Regular-price pieces that J.Crew marks down to a 'Promotional Price' for a short amount of time. These items end in $.00 or $.50, and are eligible for any extra % off sale or full-price promotions that may occur at any time. The Promo-priced items are also eligible for the Educator and Student Discounts, so if you are a teacher or student you can receive an additional 15% off on them, as well.

If an item is on promo or sale online, but not in the store, ask the sales associate if they will match the online price, and apply any extra % off that may be happening at that time. You can also ask to place a 'Blue Martini' (formerly Red Phone) order for an online promo-priced or sale item and have any extra % off taking place in the store applied to it, as well.

The promo-prices are usually in effect for a week or two (sometimes longer), then they either go back up to full-price or move on into Final Sale. I have noted the majority of the Women's Promo-priced items currently available on the J.Crew website below.

A Small Snippet of Daily Life

It's 4:00 am and my feet hit the floor. I absolutely love this time of morning...everyone is still sleeping soundly, and the house is completely quiet. This is the only time of day that I truly have to myself, and I cherish it immensely. I quietly close our bedroom door and head out to the kitchen to put the tea kettle on. I turn on my computer, then head to the laundry room to see how full the dirty clothes hamper is and decide whether or not I need to start up a load of laundry. My next stop is the living room to straighten pillows, fold blankets, and pick up any toys that may have been left out the night before. Now the hot water is ready so I pour myself a cup of tea and sit down at my desk. I spend this time preparing for the day ahead...I read my devotions, check my emails, work on my blog posts, and visit my favorite shopping sites to see if there are any good sales or deals worthy of sharing on the blog or my social media.

Now it's 6:15 am and I head into our bedroom to wake up my husband. He telecommutes for work and since his company is on the east coast, he needs to be up so he can start at 7:00 am mountain time/ 9:00 am eastern time. I make my way back out to the kitchen and pour him a cup of tea. Afterward, I finish my work on the computer and then shut it down between 7 and 7:15am. I head back to our bedroom to make the bed, then get myself cleaned up and ready for the day before the boys all wake up and the house 'comes alive' with their playing and noise.

Since moving up here, my daily 'uniform' consists of a pair of jeans or cords (this pair from Old Navy are one of my favorites, as well as a bootcut pair from J.Crew, and these matchstick cords), a turtleneck or cashmere sweater, Under Armour women's coldGear® fitted long sleeve crew, wool socks, and a pair of boots. If we need to go out during the day, then I throw on my black fleece storm hoodie, boyfriend fatigue jacket from J.Crew, and a scarf over whatever outfit it is that I'm wearing that day.

Daily Life

It's now 8:00 am, and I'm in the kitchen fixing breakfast for everyone. I like to start our day with a substantial meal, so I normally fix eggs and serve them with bacon or sausage, english muffins or fried potatoes, and some form of fruit. At least one or two days of the week we have porridge with fruit or french toast made with Franz Cinnamon swirl french toast thick sliced bread. Once it's ready I head down the hallway to my husband's office to let him know, then call the boys to the table, and we all eat breakfast together.

9:00 am: The kitchen is cleaned up and all the boys' morning chores are done...beds made, teeth brushed, hair combed, they are all dressed and ready to start their day, too. Now it's time to start our school lessons. If I have to work I give them a self-guided lesson to do until I am finished, and then we continue on with our regular daily lessons. They are allowed to take a short break around 10:15 am to burn off some energy and get refocused in order to complete the rest of their assignments.

At noon I am back in the kitchen to fix lunch. This meal usually consists of some form of sandwich, crackers, and sliced veggies (carrots, celery, cucumbers, or tomatoes). Lunch is finished and the kitchen cleaned back up again by 1pm. The next two hours are spent taking care of any work assignments, business-related projects, phone calls, paperwork, housework, laundry, etc., that need to be done.

My husband finishes up work about 3pm our time, and we spend the next couple of hours either exploring the nearby state parks, running errands (right now we are in the process of house shopping), or just relaxing at home until it's time for dinner.

I start fixing dinner around 5:30pm, although many times it ends up being later if we've gone out that afternoon. The deer that live further up the mountain show up in our yard or at the end of the driveway around this time, and the kids come to the window to watch as they make their way down the mountainside to the nearest watering hole. There is a large number of them around our house, and they often travel in packs of three or four.

For dinner I try to make meals using as many natural, unprocessed foods as possible. Some of our favorite family meals include pork chops with honey mustard sauce, veggies, & baked potatoes, pot roast served with carrots, broccoli, mashed potatoes, & bread, as well as my own personal favorite, bison burgers served with a salad & kettle chips...so delicious! Eventually I want to have my own garden, and even make my own butter and yogurt, as well as start canning fruits and vegetables to store for the winter. The ultimate goal is to be more self-sufficient and much less reliant on grocery stores to provide our food. Not only would this be a much healthier way to eat, but very satisfying knowing that we are not dependent on anyone for a large portion of our sustenance, and it would also be much more affordable...especially with 4 growing boys to feed! ;)

Dinner is finished and the kitchen cleaned up by 8pm. It has gotten dark and and the lights on the houses across the lake start to twinkle as other families go about their own evening routines. The boys are allowed to watch some television before going to bed at 9pm (except for the oldest who gets to stay up until 10:00pm). My husband and I usually watch a show together and then head into bed ourselves.

Our weekends are spent exploring more of the area and mountain ranges, house hunting, taking care of any shopping trips that might need done (it's 60 miles to the city with the 'big' stores such as Costco, Cabelas, Lowe's, & Target), and simply relaxing at home with a cup of hot tea, while enjoying the majestic scenery that surrounds our mountain home...

A New Beginning...

A new beginning...

Hello, I’m Melissa, founder and voice behind the shopping & lifestyle blog, All Things Simplified. As many of you already know, my husband and I recently fulfilled a longtime dream of moving our family from Central Florida to the Northwest Rocky Mountains of Montana. We did this in an attempt to simplify our lives in every aspect, to change the way we go about each day, to live life at a slower pace, and spend more time experiencing the great outdoors with our sons. This blog is a place to share that journey and my personal quest for all things simplified...lovely clothes, beautiful wardrobes, smart budgets and shopping, life adventures and experiences, daily domestics, and much more.

My new life in the mountains has been an exciting experience so far, and one that I look forward to sharing with you! I will of course continue to post information on the latest sales (including the J.Crew & Madewell promo-priced items & markdowns), but also plan to include posts on various other topics, including personal style, cooking, homemaking, and much more.

I'm really glad you're here, and hope you'll take some time to look around my new space. I've put the kettle on, and there's crumb cake fresh out of the oven, so pull up a chair and stay awhile! Want to learn a bit more about me? Have a look at my About page. Looking for some new recipe ideas? Check out my Recipes page...lots of goodies to be found there! On the new blog you will also find some of my favorite shopping sites, beauty products, wishlist items and more. :)

If you have a question, something you want me to share, or simply just want to say hi, please feel free to leave a comment or email me at allthingssimplified.me@gmail.com. Thank you so much again for stopping by!

Yes Please!!!

J.Crew Cashmere Getaway Hoodie

Since moving to the snow-covered Rocky Mountains last month, I have rediscovered my love of cashmere, and find myself unable to get enough of it. I would absolutely love to add this hoodie to my cashmere collection...in multiple colors, too! :)

What are your thoughts on the Cashmere Getaway Hoodie? Do you own it? If so, what color did you choose, and how has it held up? Do you think it's worth getting it with the extra discount offered right now, or should I wait for a further markdown? I'd love to hear your thoughts! :)

P.S. Right now J.Crew is offering 25% off sitewide (30% for cardholders), plus they just added new arrivals to the website...yay! Click here to check them out. :)

Have a lovey day!

xoxo,
