Call the Midwife

Alright my friends, are you looking for a new television series to get hooked on?
If so, I have just the one for you...
Call the Midwife.

This is "a BBC period drama series about a group of nurse midwives working in the East End of London in the 1950s and 1960s. The series was created by Heidi Thomas, originally based on the memoirs of Jennifer Worth but since expanded to include new, historically sourced material.
The plot follows newly qualified midwife Jenny Lee and the work of midwives and the nuns of Nonnatus House, a nursing convent, part of an Anglican religious order, coping with the medical problems in the deprived Poplar district of London's desperately poor East End in the 1950s.
The Sisters and midwives carry out many nursing duties across the community. However, with between 80 and 100 babies being born each month in Poplar alone, the primary work is to help bring safe childbirth to women in the area and to look after their countless newborns." - Wikipedia

Even if midwifery is not your 'thing', I really do think you will quite enjoy the Call the Midwife series. The shows are filled with heartfelt story lines that will have you laughing and crying all in the same episode. They are also a wonderful reminder of how special and precious each little life a woman carries inside of her truly is...each one is such a miracle and blessing.

I am almost done watching Season 2, and just started the series at the end of last week...
it's one of those shows that I could easily binge-watch if I didn't have so many other things going on right now. I would definitely recommend giving it a look-see...I don't think you'll be disappointed!
If you do end up watching, please stop back by and let me know what you think! :)

    1. Hi Dani! I also had a friend recommend it to me recently, and I've been able to watch on Netflix. I can't believe I haven't heard about it before last week...guess that's what happens when you don't watch much telly. Chummy is my favorite, too...love her! :)

  3. We are fortunate to get three (three!) public television stations, and I never missed an episode!

Now I'm watching Home Fires, which takes place in an English country village in the early 1940's, and while it moves at a slower pace, I find myself trying to plan around the show times. Go public television!

  5. Agree with you all, great show, loved every one. Wendy, yes Bletchley Circle is great. And on Netflix, some other great ones if you like UK shows are The Fall, Happy Valley, Southcliff, (Dramas), Last Tango in Halifax are all good. Blood Line is amazing. Rectify was good but dark. WFF, I will look into Home Fires.
