Guest Review by Desert Flower: Talbots Leather Platforms

Today I have the pleasure of once again posting a review from the always fabulous Desert Flower. She recently purchased the Leather Platforms in Camel from Talbots, and has kindly shared her thoughts about them with us. Thank you Desert Flower! :)

Desert Flower writes:

"Like many people, I've been intrigued by the restyling that is going on at Talbots. When I saw the fall lookbook, one of the many things I fell in love with was the camel pumps.

I couldn't wait for them to show up on so I could order them. I was so dismayed when the website photo was significantly different than what I'd seen in the fall lookbook. Still, I know that sometimes website pictures are not the best and when a 20% off code came my way I decided to take a chance.

They are different in real life, but they look infinitely better than on the Talbots website. They fit true to size, they're very comfortable. The platform is 1", the heel is 4". I'm not 100% sold on the shape of the heel, I think it's just a smidge old lady-ish and I was hoping that they would look more like they did in the lookbook, but overall the shoe is very attractive so I'm keeping them. They are a great shade of camel, a bit on the darker end of the color. They are a great neutral pump for fall."

Thank you agaim for the fantastic review Desert Flower! :)

What do you think about the Leather Platforms from Talbots? Do you own them? Have you tried them on? Planning to make a purchase? Have you tried any of the other shoes at Talbots? Please do share! :)

There are so many lovely pieces at Talbots right now including these:

  1. Thanks for the review, Desert Flower courtesy of FFM! I love the look of that pump, and noticed a lot of designers have that same heel this year.

  2. Thanks for the review. I think the shoes look great on you!

I got a 20% off and free shipping from Talbots also good instore. I did some damage on Wed. night. They had some great fall markdowns already and I was very happy with the fit of the items I bought. I am also waiting on a few items that I ordered. They have a red phone too but unlike JCrew you can get free shipping on all items including sale from it!

  3. Good review. I was curious about these pumps as well. I don't think they look old ladyish. It may just be that a more pointy toe isn't as in vogue right now. If anything I'd say they look more cartoonish than old lady. The rounded heel and the way the platform rounds up from the front sole and up to meet the front of the shoe create cartoonish lines, imo. If the back of the heel looked more tailored to the foot and the platform didn't raise up in the front, it would be a much better look. Just my thoughts.

  4. Desert Flower -- G Money doesn't agree w/me. He said they look retro, not cartoonish. I trust his opinion, so there ya go. :-) He's been working w/clothing right now for a project, so I've been sharing some fashion stuff w/him lately.

  5. Thanks FFM/Desert Flower for the review. I'd never even dream that retailers wouldn't put the EXACT product on the site... naive little me. Def. will have to go to a B&M to check out the wares.

  6. Gigi, that's actually a good description. The website pic definitely looks a bit cartoonish! The shoes just don't look like that in real life (save the shape of the heel). The shoe sits flat on the floor, there's no space like in that photo on the website.

As I said, I'm not madly in love with the heel. I do see now that G-Money mentioned it that it looks retro. I like the rest of the shoe so much I'm over looking the fact that I'm not a huge fan of that heel shape.

By the way, if you have the October Talbots catalogue you'll see they are doing the same shoe in black. I'm told it will be available in October.

  7. This shoes never will lose its charm and beauty. A number of fashions and styles in no way fade away.
