Sunday Shopping: J.Crew

Happy Sunday Everyone! I hope you're all having a fun and relaxing weekend. :) It's been awhile since we've visited J.Crew, so for this week's Sunday Shopping we're going to take a trip there. I'll share with you some of my favorite pieces, and I'd love to hear what your favorite pieces are, too. Let's go shopping!

One of my favorite items on the website right now has to be the Drapey Sequin Tee. All three colors are divine, but I have to say my personal favorite is the Heirloom Pink. This one is definitely on my watchlist...hopefully it will be mine soon. :)

Another piece I'm really loving is the V-Neck Maxi Sweater in both colors. I think this could look really adorable layered over a tissue turtleneck or long-sleeve stretch perfect shirt with a pair of matchstick jeans and tall boots.

I love the colors and silhouette of the Tipped châle cardigan. I could definitely see wearing this one with an *Off White* turtleneck sweater (like this one from Gap) and J.Crew pencil skirt in *Heather Carbon*.

I am still absolutely in love with the Dot Flouncette blouse and was actually lucky enough to have purchased it from another JCA on the J.Crew Aficionada Weekly Exchange early this month. It is so pretty and feminine I absolutely adore the polka dots. Here's a Polyvore of the way I wore it back on the 14th. This was so cute IRL and got lots of compliments, too. :)

I think the Cloud paisley perfect shirt looks promising, especially for layering under a jacket such as the Tuxedo Jacket or under the Boutonniere blazer, as well.

The Selvedge chambray shirt (seen on Katie Holmes above) has quickly become one of my favorite *go to* pieces. It is extremely versatile and can be worn with just about anything and everything...highly recommend. :)

I think the Merino sequined crochet cardigan looks really pretty, and once again my favorite color is the Heirloom pink, although the black and gold do look very pretty, as well. This is the cardigan that was featured in the October issue of Women's Health magazine (in gold).

The Ashbury satchel in *Toffee Fatigue* is absolutely divine and my personal favorite with the *Tuscan Olive* coming in a close second.

On my jewelry watchlist is the Pearl cobblestone bracelet (both colors are lovely) and the Crystal chain-link necklace, especially in *Crystal* but the other two colors are very pretty, too.

The Silk Jacinta Vest looks adorable the way they have it styled on the website with the Cambridge cable ribbed turtleneck sweater :

I absolutely love the color combination of the Langford two-tone high-heel oxfords...SO very pretty. I'd love to see them IRL to find out if the lighter color is actually a pink or more of a stone color. Please share if you know the answer to this one. :)

The Crystal briolette dress (also worn by Katie Holmes) looks pretty in all three colors, but that price tag...too much for me, unfortunately. I'm sure some lucky girl will have the opportunity to wear it someplace special and fabulous though. :)

So there you have it...a handful of my favorite pieces at J.Crew right now. What are your favorites? Do you own any of the pieces on my list? Have you seen or tried them on IRL? Do you have any items you would recommend? Please do share! :)

Have a beautiful and blessed day!

Style Inspiration by FFM: *Navy Check*

Hello Everyone and Happy Friday to you all! I hope you've had a fabulous week and are looking forward to an even better weekend. :) Let me first start off by saying that I am sorry for not blogging as consistently lately, replying to comments, or making my rounds to all of the other blogs. In all honesty, I have not been well the past week or so, and before that I was incredibly overextended in most areas of my personal life, leaving less and less time to blog like I had wanted to. Add to that the fact that most times I cannot complete a thought or sentence without being interrupted by one of my boys, (thus the lack of extensive narratives or insight on my posts), so even putting up a picture or sale post can often be quite an accomplishment for me on any given day at this point. I do however want you all to know that I truly appreciate all of you who continue to stop by and really love that some of you even continue to leave comments (even though I've been really bad at replying lately)...thank you to all of you! :)

So enough about me...on to the post! This one continues an already ongoing feature that I am now calling *Style Inspiration by FFM*, where I will post one of my Polyvore set designs and include links to items you can purchase to re-create the look if you so choose. Some of the set designs will be outfits I am wearing or have worn in the past, others will be *reader request* sets, and some will simply be outfits I would love to wear. (If possible I try to include a *real life* photo of me in the outfit if it's something I'm wearing at the time. Of course my schedule doesn't always allow time for snapping a pic, but it is definitely something I hope to include more of with this feature in the future.)

This set is an outfit I wore the other day: *Navy Check*

The Details:

My shirt is the J.Crew Cotton Check Shirt in Navy from last year. This one is so cute and turned out to be really versatile and an overall great purchase. If you're looking for a similar option you might consider the one here, here, or here.

Layered over the cotton check shirt is the J.Crew Jackie Shell in Navy. I own several of these in different colors and find them to be a great staple and extremely versatile. The shell can be worn by itself, as a twinset under a matching Jackie Cardigan or layered over a button down...each look is pretty and feminine. (Similar option here.)

My jeans are the Old Navy "The Weekend" jeans in Weathered Wash (now on sale). These are amongst my favorite jeans by far and the pair I reach for again and again when I want to go for a casual, comfortable, yet *put together* look. If the ON jeans don't happen to work for you, there are similar options here and here.

My earrings are the Steel By Design Gold Hoop Earrings from QVC. They are not only lightweight and reasonably priced, but one of my staple wardrobe pieces, as well. (Similar here and here.)

My local Target finally restocked the Merona Oversized Gold Watch (only sold in stores) last week, so I was able to get one. It's "inspired" by the MICHAEL Michael Kors 'Goldtone Oversize Iconic' Chronograph Watch, only at a much more affordable price point (mine was only $12.99).

My shoes are the Indigo by Clarks Lottie Clog purchased last year, I believe. These clogs are so extremely walking on pillows. If you're able to find a pair I would definitely recommend giving them a try, and if not you can find a similar pair here, here, or here.

My handbag is the COACH Large Ergo Handbag in British Tan Vachetta Leather. I absolutely love the color of this bag, and it's actually a bit darker IRL than in this pic. During one of my visits to the COACH store last year, I was carrying my black version of this handbag, and the SA told me that this particular style of Ergo bag is one of the most requested and popular styles that Coach has ever made. I can see why because it is roomy, but not overly large, comfortable to carry on your shoulder or hold in your hand, and it's not a heavy bag when empty. This bag sold out a long time ago, but there are similar options here and here.

That's it for now! Thanks again for stopping by...have a beautiful and blessed day! :)

L is for Little Black Dress

Hello my Dear Readers! I hope you're having a fabulous week so far! Today I am sharing another excerpt from the book The One Hundred by Nina Garcia..."A Guide To The Pieces Every Stylish Woman Must Own." It shares the A-Z staples each woman should have in her wardrobe, and today we are continuing on with the letter L. :)

L is for Little Black Dress:

Ms. Garcia writes:

"Often, the perfect little black dress finds a girl when she is not looking. If she sets out on a "perfect little black dress mission," the thing will elude her all afternoon. But if she is on her way to a lazy Sunday brunch, it will most likely jump out at her from the storefront window. No matter what the cost, she should buy it. It may be H&M or it may be Alaia. The price is immaterial, since it can always be justified by the rules of fashion math: cost divided by number of times worn equals priceless. It will be there time after time, decade after decade.

* Choose the best material you can find (not all are created equal) and nothing too tight or too shiny.

* Consider your LBD a blank canvas instead of a fallback. It demands to be accessorized and adorned.

* To avoid being accused of playing it safe, make sure you have a dash of daring (a dangerous stiletto, bold jewelry, etc.), and make sure it shows off your best assets.

* Remember, the reason the simple garment is so enduring is because it understands the essence of style: to step back and let the woman shine. So shine.

* It is said that you need only one, but a minimum of two is a better guideline.

* Make sure you can dance in it.

Fashion 101: The Little Black Dress

As mentioned in my first book, The Little Black Book of Style, fashion history credits Coco Chanel with inventing the little black dress in 1926. Yet women had been wearing little black dresses long before. It should be noted, however, that it wasn't until the 1920s that the black dress became a fashion statement, and not a dress simply for practicality or mourning. And for that, we must give it up to Mme Chanel. She would insist on it, in fact. She might say that she knew about the power of the black dress before anyone else, and she might be right. When Paul Poiret came up to her in one of her first little black creations, he asked, "For whom, Madame, do you mourn?" She cheekily responded, "For you, Monsieur." Turns out, she knew what she was talking about.
And we should also give it up to Mme Chanel for coming up with the moniker of "little black dress" while she was criticizing her fashion rival Elsa Schiaparelli. "Scheherazade is easy," she noted. "The little black dress is hard."
Clearly, Mme Chanel was not a woman to mess with, which is why, after much reflection and research, I'm going to give her a little credit here. Yes, the little black dress has been in existence for centuries, but where it was once an item of practicality and solemnity, it is now a sure sign of power and sensuality. And for that we can thank Mme Chanel.

Great Moments In Little Black Dresses:

*1961: Audrey Hepburn (does it even bear repeating?) where the famed Givenchy LBD in Breakfast at Tiffany's.

*1972: The Hollies debut their hit "Long Cool Woman in a Black Dress." That long cool woman had it all...

*1986: Robert Palmer's "Addicted to Love" video airs on MTV, showcasing top models in little black dresses. The world--especially the fashion world--drools.

*1986: Cher attends the Oscars in an awe/shock inspiring Bob Mackie number. ("As you can see, I did receive my Academy booklet on how to dress like a serious actress.") This little black dress went a long way, showing how divers a concept the LBD can be.

*1994: Elizabeth Hurley goes to the Four Weddings and a Funeral premiere in a little black dress by Versace, held together with safety pins. Her career skyrockets.

*1994: Princess Diana steps out in that memorable black dress the night Prince Charles mad that memorable announcement.

*1996: U2 debuts the song "Little Black Dress," lyrically praising the power of the item. Here she comes like a child with a gun...

*2006: The LBD from Breakfast at Tiffany's is sold at auction for £467,000 (roughly $920,909). "

"When the little black dress is right, there is nothing else to wear in its place."
--Wallis Simpson, Duchess of Windsor
