Style Inspiration by FFM: *3.23.11* IRL

Happy Monday Everyone! I hope your week is starting out to be a fabulous one! :) Today's post continues an ongoing feature called *Style Inspiration by FFM*, where I will post one of my Polyvore set designs and include links to items you can purchase to re-create the look if you so choose. Some of the set designs will be outfits I am wearing or have worn in the past, others will be *reader request* sets, and some will simply be outfits I would love to wear. (If possible I try to include a *real life* photo of me in the outfit if it's something I'm wearing at the time. Of course my schedule doesn't always allow time for snapping a pic, but it is definitely something I hope to include more of with this feature in the future.)

Now on to today's *Style Inspiration by FFM*...this set is an outfit I wore on 3.23.11, featuring the Lands' End CANVAS Pleat Front Dress. The weather has been gorgeous here lately, so I have been taking full advantage of it to start wearing my spring dresses on an almost daily basis. :)


The Details:

My dress is the Pleat Front Dress from Lands' End CANVAS which I purchased on sale last year. The description from the website read as:

Classically cool.
* Cotton lawn fabric
* Tucked pleats in front and back
* Sleeveless; zipper on side
* Above-knee length

Design: Simple but distinctive. Pleated accents and bodice styling create a shaped look. Discreet side-zip.

Possibilities: A necessity for spring and summer. Wear it with or without a cardigan — and almost always with sandals and a positive attitude.

Material: 100% cotton, Machine wash. Imported.

This little dress has been such a great *go to* piece for the warmer weather months. The quality is excellent and it has held up to several washings without any fading or other issues. I had initially purchased it in white but later exchanged it for the navy, simply because I felt the color was more flattering on me in this particular silhouette. That decision was a good one, as I have worn this dress multiple times ever since. :) Unfortunately the dress is sold out now and they haven't brought it back this year so far. However, there are similar options here and here.

The Silk Driving Scarf is from J.Crew and has quickly become one of my favorite *go to* accessories. I love the print and find that the colors are working with numerous items already in my wardrobe.

My Monet Gold Hoop Earrings were purchased at Macy's last year. They aren't available online, but you can find similar options here and here.

The gold oversized watch is from Target and is a great less-expensive alternative to this one from Michael Kors. It runs large, but I had a jeweler remove a couple of the links and it's now a perfect fit. I love it AND the price! :)

My Angela Caputi Chain Link Bracelets are from Serena Italian Imports. I absolutely love them and wear them all the time. (They are the same ones seen in this photo and this photo from The Sartorialist.) The color of these two in particular work perfectly with the colors of the silk driving scarf, and are just absolutely lovely together. :) 
 The Large Metallic Thompson Tote was purchased from J.Crew a couple years ago. I don't carry it often during the winter months, but it gets plenty of use during the spring and summer. It is a bright yellow gold that actually works well as a great neutral for all the prints and color I wear during those seasons. I also like the way it coordinates and almost *matches* most of my yellow gold jewelry pieces. (Every now and then the bag will show up for sale on Ebay, or there are similar options here and here.)

My sandals were purchased at LOFT two years ago on super sale, and you can see from the pic that I have worn them a lot. They are the Serena Mini-stud Sandals in Gold, but I also own them in Black with Gold Mini-studs and White with Gold Mini-studs. They are so incredibly comfortable and another great purchase...CPW (Cost Per Wear) must be in the negative amount by now.  I'm not sure if you could find them on Ebay, but this pair (in Gold) and this pair (also in Gold) may work as an alternative for you.

OOTD 3.25.11: The J.Crew Provence Dress

Happy Friday Everyone! I hope you're having a fabulous day so far! I haven't posted an actual Outfit of the Day in a very long time, so I thought I share one with you today. :)


The boys and I are spending most of the day at home today doing school lessons, household chores, and then a bit of *recess* outside. I decided to wear my Provence Dress (in *Stone Blue*) from J.Crew that I picked up with the last 30% off promo. I like that it is comfortable to wear for staying at home, yet completely *errand ready* if I happen to need to run out somewhere.

The description on the J.Crew website reads:

Romance defined in sweet cotton dobby—we've fallen in love with this dress. Our designers trimmed the bodice with a lovely ruffle and finished it with an adjustable tie front. Gentle shirring at the waist completes the picture. Interior boning for added support. Falls to knee. Import. Machine wash. Catalog/ only.

Here's a close up shot so you can see the pretty detailing on the dress with the darker blue ribbon trim and slightly raised dots.

Here it is on me in size 2. The tie at the top of the dress is adjustable so you can tighten or loosen to get the perfect fit and prevent any *slippage* that tends to occur with strapless dresses. The length is good...I am 5'4" and it falls just above my knee.

Review: Lands' End Short-Sleeve Shirtdress

Happy Wednesday Everyone! I hope you're week is going well! I wanted to post a quick review of a recent purchase I made from Lands' End with one of their fantastic promos they run on a regular basis. It is the Short-Sleeve Shirtdress in Navy Blue, and today you can get if for 30% off and Free Shipping with code SPRINGNOW pin 1002.

The description on the Lands'End website reads:

Cool and classic.

* Crisp cotton fabric
* Timeless shirtdress styling
* Full-button front; short sleeves with rolled cuff
* Full skirt has stitched-down pleats

With all the dress styles that come and go, one stands the test of time: the classic shirtdress. Understandably so, since it flatters every figure. Ours has a comfortable, full-skirted silhouette. Pleats in the skirt are stitched down to eliminate "poof" at the hips. Best of all, you know this is one dress that will never go out of style. 100% cotton. Machine wash. Imported.

First let me start off by saying that I absolutely LOVE shirtdresses! They are one of my favorite silhouettes, as I find them to be very feminine and flattering, not to mention comfortable enough to wear on a daily basis. For this particular dress I ordered the size 2 Petite, because their regular size 2 is too large for me. (For reference I am 5"4", short-waisted with a 31" inseam. I normally wear a size 0/2 or XSmall at J.Crew.) Fortunately the dresses at Lands' End seem to run on the longer side, so the petite length ended up working out really well for me (hitting just above my knee), as did the overall fit of the dress. The cotton is a nice light weight which will be perfect for the spring and summer months. The dress is very comfortable on and the skirt is full without being overly *poofy* and adding weight to the hip area. I really like this dress a lot and see myself getting a lot of use out of it.

Here it is on me...I've put on a few pounds over the winter months (working on getting back to my *summer weight* now), but find the dress to still be flattering and think that it will continue to fit even when I do lose my extra 5-7. :)  (When I gain weight it's always on my hip/thigh area first, so fortunately my dress sizes don't change that much.)

I tried to get a shot of the side so you can see that it isn't really *poofy* at all. I had the belt tied in a bow in this pic, so that's why it looks a bit fuller in front just under the waist area.

Here I replaced the self-tie belt with my J.Crew skinny belt in Metallic Silver. It would also look cute with a white, red, yellow, green, gold, or patterned belt...skinny or wide.

One more...trying to show the front of the dress a little better. I love the contrast of the pearlized buttons against the navy blue.
