A Little This, A Little That...

J.Crew debuted some New Arrivals onto their website this morning. I think the Jackie Pullover looks promising.
The Jackie Cardigan and its matching shell (both in numerous colors) are two of my wardrobe staples, so it will be nice to have another option in the same fabric.

I am still in love with my Sterling skirts and noticed they were restocked this morning in most sizes. Here it is on me in the Heather Carbon colorway with the Skinny-rib Turtleneck from Vince (one of my current favorite wardrobe items), and the La Canadienne Passion Riding Boot in Black Suede.

You may remember from this post I wrote last week on Personal Style, that I am looking for a neutral mid-heel to wear with my dresses and skirts (when I don't want to wear my boots). Well, after assessing my wardrobe once again, I also found that I need a comfortable black mid-heel and ordered this pair in black leather from They arrived yesterday and I absolutely LOVE them! I haven't worn them yet, but from trying them on they feel as if they will be very comfortable, and the price is reasonable, too! :)

If you are looking for an extremely comfortable and beautiful pair of suede wedge boots, then I would suggest giving the Bette Knee-high boot from La Canadienne a try. I know I keep going on and on about La Canadienne, but I just recently decided to give them a try after many years of contemplating a purchase, and I am now completely sold on the brand. Yes, they are pricey, but the quality is excellent and the pairs I have tried on so far have been extremely comfortable. I would definitely consider them an investment purchase to wear for many years to come.

In other non-fashion related news, the boys and I spent most of yesterday outside enjoying the tiny bit of cooler weather that Florida finally got this winter season. I snapped a few pics to give you an idea of what a Florida 'Winter' looks like where we live...

The neighbor's horses...

Look...the leaves actually changed color on one of the trees!

So what have you been up to lately? Is it cold where you live, or are you still experiencing warmer weather like I am? Have you checked out the New Arrivals at J.Crew? See anything you like? I'd love to hear your thoughts, so please do share! :)

Have a lovely day!

  1. Arizona winter looks pretty much like that, FFM. You can't really tell it from summer in pictures.

I checked out the new arrivals and was secretly relieved to find nothing that made my heart beat faster. I have items like them already for the most part. The wallet gets a break!

  2. Desert Flower: I have pretty much resolved myself to the fact that my much loved jackets and sweaters aren't going to see much use this year. It seems as if this winter is going to be a warm one.

There aren't really any 'must haves' for me in the new arrivals at J.Crew this time, either. I'm actually a bit relieved because my wallet also needs a break! :)

  3. I might have to try the Jules dress in glamour pink. Love the print. I'm searching for a handbag, and the Tillary won't work. I prefer a satchel or tote, but the colors look pretty.

It has been a VERY dry winter here. Lots of sun and chilly temps-my allergies are awful. We really need rain to clean up the smog and get whaever is growing early to stop.

  4. JulieStyles: The print on the glamour pink Jules dress is absolutely lovely! I also think it would be perfect for where you live. Did you end up returning the bag you got for Christmas?

I'm sorry to hear your allergies have been so bad! Is your local weather forecaster predicting any rain in the near future?

  5. I like the neckline of the Jackie pullover in the picture. We need to expose our collarbones, ladies,v. flattering.

FFM-- is the sizing of the Sterling like the pencils? For some reason I take a size lower in the pencils than I do in the pants and I don't want it to be too big. Is it up around the waist more than the pencils? Looks so great on you.

Finally having winter up here in the NE with cold temps, still no snow though. We can hope! Enjoy your lovely weather.

  6. Hi Lane! I actually sized down 2 sizes on the Sterling skirt to a OO. I usually need a size 2 in the pencils to fit my hip/thigh area, but then of course it is way too big at the waistline. I can wear the 0 in pencils, but then the hip/thigh area is just a bit too snug for my liking. In the Sterling skirt I can wear the size 00 and the fit at the waist is perfect while the hip/thigh area is still not too tight. In the pic on this post I am wearing the size 00 and you can see how fitted it is at the waist. This is the look I was going for, even though the model on the website wears hers a bit lower and looser. I personally think it looks better more fitted. :)

My suggestion would be to size down at least one size from your pencil skirt size, especially if you have a pear or hourglass figure.

Oh, one more thing...I always wear stockings or a shaper under my skirts because they help to smooth out the rear view and avoid VPL. I would suggest wearing either one of them with this skirt, too. :)

  7. Hi-No rain in the forecast, which also means no snow in Lake Tahoe-except for the man made stuff at the resorts.
I haven't returned the bag - yet - but I think I will. It is the Rachel Zoe Mandana-, which my DH got on sale at Nordstrom, but it was still expensive. I wish I could find one that I like more for less $ :-). With this one I feel like I won't be able to buy a new bag for a very long time, and now that I have picked it up and put it down for days, it feels too bulky.

  8. Julie: The RZ bag is very pretty, but I understand how you feel. If a new bag isn't an absolute necessity right now, then maybe you will find a similar one on super sale later this month. I've noticed that some retailers are continuing to mark items even lower, so there's a really good chance you'll find one eventually. :)

Btw, I did order the Trina Turk skirt in the smaller size but haven't had the chance to try it on yet, so I'm not sure which size I'll be keeping. I also noticed the other day that the price had been lowered even more and Nordstrom gave me a PA on both skirts. I saved an additional $20 on each one...YAY!!! Thanks again for all your help with the sizing. :)

  9. Looove the skirt FFM! I am torn between the Sterling and the Crosstown Wool Circle Skirt (which seems to have sold out online??). Have you tried the latter?

  10. Thanks Roxy! I haven't tried the Crosstown wool circle skirt, but I would think the sizing would be the same as the Sterling since it is also more of an a-line and full at the hips. I wonder if it was an online item only or if you'll be able to find it in one of your local stores? I'm sure it will be back on the website in a few days though. It probably just disappeared with the website update yesterday. Let me know if you get the chance to try it. I'd love to know what you think and which skirt you end up getting. :)

  11. Hi FFM, I love your new shoes!
Your Florida winter looks so nice to me right now, we have snow and rain and fog and the roads are a mess!
I am not contemplating anything at JCrew from the new arrivals, well not yet anyway!

  12. It started snowing here in southern Oregon (4000 feet) today, after the driest December on record so we are grateful for the precipitation.

I love the Sterling skirt on you! Have a wonderful New Year!

  14. Thanks Dani! The shoes are really much cuter in person and very flattering on, too.

I would love to have some snow right now! Stay warm and try to enjoy your wintery weather. :)

  15. Thank you Sooz, and a very Happy New Year to you, too! :)

  16. Dear FFM - I just wanted to thank you so much for your recommendation of the J.Crew Sterling skirt! I bought both colors after reading your review and love them just as much as you do. (I read your blog everyday, but have only posted once before - to thank you for recommending the Target shirt dress - last year sometime?) You are truly FABULOUS indeed! :)
