A Little This, A Little That...

Love this photo...Jackie's dress is so pretty and feminine. It actually reminds me of this one from Milly that is one of several dresses on my spring wishlist.

The Rummage Sale this past weekend went well, and it's nice to finally have all that extra 'stuff' out of my house. In the process of cleaning out, I came across a tote filled with some of my childhood memorabilia that my mother saved for me many, many years ago. Included in it were several Barbies, a Ken doll, and plenty of clothing to go along with them, as well as the doll case. I do admit to playing with Barbies as a young girl...had the dream house, corvette, pool, and much more. Anyone else a Barbie fan in your younger years? If so, do you still have any of your Barbies?

I placed an order for my favorite lipstick this week from Barneys New York. If you would love to wear red lipstick, but have perhaps felt that you cannot pull it off, or that your skin tone is too ruddy, then you should give this one a try. (Shipping is FREE at Barneys, btw).

We are big fans of Doctor Who at our house and have been watching for many years now. Any other Doctor Who fans out there? The tenth Doctor, played by David Tennant is my personal favorite so the way he portrayed the character. Do you have a favorite 'Doctor'?

Related trivia...I recently read that he was married on December 30, 2011 to Georgia Moffett, who many of you fans may remember played the Doctor's cloned daughter Jenny back in 2008. (Her father Peter Davidson had played the fifth Time Lord (Doctor Who) from 1982 to 1984, as well.) David and Georgia have a daughter named Olive who was born in March 2011 and they appear to be very happy's wishing them many years of wedded bliss! :)

My picks:

Scones are a 'Family Favorite' when it comes to breakfast in our home. I have tried several different versions so far, and the one my boys' especially like are Chocolate Chip Scones. They are very delicious, filling, and easy to make:

1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
1/3 cup white sugar
2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
5 tablespoons butter, chilled and cubed
1/2 cup milk chocolate chips
3 tablespoons orange juice

  • Preheat oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C). Spray a baking sheet with nonstick cooking spray.
  • In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder and salt. With a pastry blender or a large fork, cut in the butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Stir in the chocolate chips. Mix in the orange juice to form a dough.
  • Turn out the dough on a floured surface. Pat or roll into a rectangle about 1/2 inch thick, and with a biscuit cutter or knife, cut out 12 scones. I like to spread some butter on the dough and sprinkle with a bit of sugar, but this step is completely optional. Transfer the scones to the baking sheet.
  • Bake in preheated oven until golden brown, about 12 minutes. Move to wire racks to cool a bit before serving. (We spread butter on ours before eating, but once again...this step is completely optional.)

What have you been up to lately? Are you doing any sale shopping? Does your family have a favorite breakfast food or meal? Please do share...I'd love to hear from you! :)

  1. Fun this and that! I must try those scones... they look delicious.

  2. Hi FFM,
Thanks for the recipe, my daughters would love those on a Saturday morning!
Well I have to admit that though sworn off final sale I have placed a couple of orders at JCrew. I know!
I also placed a small sale order at Talbots but half of it didn't ship, oh well.
I LOVED playing with Barbies as a little girl, it was all about the clothes, of course! All of my things were lost when my parents went through their terrible divorce, which is too bad as it would have been fun for my daughters to have had my Barbies.
I hope you keep yours, I know you have boys but you could have grand-daughters someday! How fun would that be?
Oh and I love that picture of Jackie, wasn't she beautiful.

  3. Julie: They are VERY delicious! I top them with some butter and serve them yummy! :)

  4. Hi Dani! My boys' love the scones so much that they ask to have the leftover ones for lunch. They really are very delicious. :)

I'm looking forward to seeing what you got from the sale section at J.Crew. Nothing for me, although I would like to have the Crosstown circle skirt but won't risk final sale since I never had the chance to try it on.

I do hope to have grand-daughters someday! Can you imagine how much fun I will have taking them shopping? My boys are lots of fun to be around, but shoppers they are not. ;)

  5. heh..a couple of years ago my mom bought me a repro vintage barbie and now sometimes when I feel like I 'need' a new vintage dress, I will just buy one for her on ebay. I can usually find classic pieces for around $10, which is fun, doesn't take up much space, and is almost as satisfying as getting one for myself!!

  6. I love the picture of Jack and Jackie. The other night, I finished the new Stephen King book 11/22/63 so I guess I have Kennedy on the brain.

Thank for posting the scone recipe. Must make!

  7. Love your "this and that" posts! So fun! LOVED my Barbies as a young girl - had numerous Barbies and Ken, the camper, the airplane (complete with the flight attendant's serving cart!), and LOTS of clothes. I still mourn the fact I never did have the pink Corvette! Very anxious to try the scone recipe - could be Sat a.m. treat for the boys! They will love I am sure. Have a beautiful weekend!

  8. Oh, I love that dress Jackie's wearing, and that Milly one is just perfection! I also totally played with Barbie's when I was a girl - and I don't think it did me any lasting damage, haha. I don't have any of them anymore, mostly because I almost always gave them "haircuts" which made them...well, more likely to end up as fodder in a donation bin somewhere.

I actually met and took a photo with David Tennant, back when he was a fairly unknown actor, working with the RSC. Joseph Fiennes was also a member of that cast, but even then, David was the one who everyone loved. He stole every show he was in (and I watched several of them that summer).

  9. thatdamngreendress: Your comment made me that you buy the Vintage Barbie dresses on Ebay! I would love to see her wardrobe so far! :)

  10. Lizzy T: You're welcome! Let me know what you think of the scones when you get the chance to make them. :)

  11. Thanks Elizabeth in MO! The scones are definitely a special treat. I'm sure your boys' will love them as much as mine do...let me know how they turn out. :)

  12. Carol: I am so jealous that you got to meet David Tennant! After seeing him interviewed many times, I can absolutely imagine that he would be well-loved by everyone IRL, too. How fun that you got to see him perform in his 'early' days. :)
