A Little This, A Little That...

Remember this photo? I featured it last year in one of my 'Love This...' posts. How absolutely amazing does she look? I am still in love with this entire outfit and would love to find a similar dress to wear this spring.

Speaking of dresses...I have added another one to my Spring Wishlist. It is the Liberty Print Meadow Dress from Brooks Brothers which I just discovered yesterday after reading this post from my bloggy friend xoxo. What can I say? I love everything about the dress...the color, the print, the silhouette, and the longer length. This is a classic and timeless dress that would be an excellent investment piece to add to my wardrobe.

The print on THIS dress that I purchased recently from Target actually reminds me a bit of a Liberty print, too. It is the Merona® Womens Printed Faux Wrap Dress. I bought it in both colors and really like each of them a lot. As you know, I am always on the lookout for dresses to add to my wardrobe, and right now I am specifically focusing on ones that can be worn on a day-to-day basis while I take care of all my domestic duties at home. This means that I need them to be comfortable, yet pretty, and not cost a small fortune since I am wearing them to perform tasks that could possibly stain or damage them. While I do prefer to invest in higher quality pieces that will endure the test of time, I still feel there is room in my wardrobe for these types of purchases in this season of my life, considering that I spend most days teaching, cooking, cleaning up after little ones, and working from home.

The dress is 95% Polyester and 5% Spandex. I know some will not like it due to the fabric content, but I personally don't mind it at this price, and really like the fact that it doesn't wrinkle, plus it is less likely to fade out with multiple washings. (For those who may be interested in it, the length from the back of the neck to bottom hem is approximately 37.5 inches. I purchased the XSmall and it fits very comfortably. It looks really cute worn right now for cooler temps with a cardigan, tights, and boots or Mary Jane black leather pumps, then will transition easily into spring and summer worn with sandals.)

A bit closer up to show the details on the prints...

Banana Republic seems to be offering more and more desirable pieces with each collection they rollout these days. My lovely follower CMG was looking through their tumblr page recently and came across this post from last fall featuring a sneak peek from their SP-SU 2012 line.

There are really a lot of pretty dresses, skirts, jewelry, shoes, etc. shown in the photos, some of which are currently available right now:

Do you see anything in the SP-SU 2012 preview that you are looking forward to?

It appears that there are several New Arrivals at today, including the Elinor dress in polka dot (pictured above). Now, I love me some polka-dots and think the dress is cute, but I'm still partial to THIS one from Ralph Lauren that has been on my wish list for quite some time now. However, I would still like to try on the polka-dot dress from J.Crew if I get the chance. I think it has potential to be very cute on. :)

What are your thoughts on the Elinor dress? Are there any other new arrivals at J.Crew that caught your eye today?

Simple Scones made with Craisins® Dried Cranberries and NestlĂ© Toll House White Morsels

This is yet another family favorite in the Fabulous Florida Mommy household. The scones are extremely delicious and quite easy to make, too.:)

2 cups all-purpose flour

1/3 cup sugar

1 teaspoon baking powder

1/4 teaspoon baking soda

1/2 teaspoon salt

8 tablespoons butter

1/2 cup
Craisins® Original Dried Cranberries

1/2 cup NestlĂ© Toll House Premier White Morsels

1/2 cup sour cream

1 large egg

Adjust oven rack to lower-middle position and preheat oven to 400 degrees.

In a medium bowl, mix flour, 1/3 cup sugar, baking powder, baking soda and salt. Grate butter into flour mixture on the large holes of a box grater; use your fingers to work in butter (mixture should resemble coarse meal), then stir in Craisins and white morsels.

In a small bowl, whisk sour cream and egg until smooth. Using a fork, stir sour cream mixture into flour mixture until large dough clumps form. Use your hands to press the dough against the bowl into a ball. (The dough will be sticky in places, and there may not seem to be enough liquid at first, but as you press, the dough will come together.)

Place on a lightly floured surface and pat into a rectangle (mine is around 12x6 inches) about 3/4-inch thick. Sprinkle with remaining 1 tsp. of sugar. (I also smear butter on top of the dough before sprinkling the sugar, but this step is optional).

Use a sharp knife to cut into 12 squares; place on a cookie sheet (preferably lined with parchment paper), about 1 inch apart. Bake until golden, about 15 to 17 minutes.

Cool for 5 minutes and serve warm or at room temperature. (I also top our scones with butter before serving, but this step is also optional.)

So what have you been up to this week? Do you have a Spring Wish List? Have you added anything to it recently? What do you think of the new arrivals at J.Crew today? Please do share...I always love to hear from you! :)

    1. Hi FFM, I really like these posts so much! That scone recipe looks delicious.
I hope your family is well, my little girl is sick again, this time with a terrible sore throat. I have to get her all better before we travel at the end of next week, we can't bring any viruses to my Mother-in-law whose own health is somewhat compromised.

Nothing added to my wishlist though I do have my Brompton mini-hobo arriving today. I'll be reviewing it tomorrow with my packing-for Florida post. The color scheme is navy and coral, I hope you come by to see it!
Your Target dresses look perfect for days around the house, it is nice to have investment pieces but I know what you mean... I don't want to scrub the kitchen floor in my Tory Burch dress, no matter how capable my apron is!

    2. It looks like Banana Republic is coming back, I love their new collection.
Thank you for the scone recipe, I am a big fan of tea with scones and I am going to make it tomorrow ( I'll take a photo for you).

    3. I like the lovely dress you've chosen from Brooks Bros. I live close to a couple of their stores, but they are usually too conservative for me. I did browse the dresses online, and I think I need a closer look ;-)

Cute Target dresses! Nothing from JCrew on my wish list. I tried the new pointy flats (can't think of the name) - uncomfortable on my. No cushioning and no arch support, and for me just a little too pointy.

I splurged on a really pretty white eyelet shift today at a favorite boutique. is gray. It will be my spring & summer go-to dress for days when housework or baseball isn't on the agenda.

    4. Hi FFM, your Kate Spade quote is so true! The look you like so much is beautiful, the dress covers her up but she looks tres sophiste. I especially like the stand up collar and her hair. Recently I bought a Boden dress(not usually a fan, the patterns are too much) in navy polka dot that I like better than the JC new arrival, but then I think if they'd styled it with some darling accessories and some sandals that didn't look like the ones your uncle wore to Woodstock I might feel a little more enthusiastic about it. Your scones sound yummy!

    5. Great recipe! Thanks for sharing. After receiving and not liking a handbag from Boden, I went ahead and purchased the J Crew Tillary in red. I'll be reviewing it soon. In other news, we got Mini G to sleep in 20 min tonite and I am feeling great!

    6. FFM, I inquired about that Banana Republic dress, the one second from the right in the pencil drawing, after seeing it here:

I was told it is a summer dress that will not be introduced until April. It is the Woven Contrast Sheath dress, item #905261.

Nothing on my shopping wishlist, and I have a big J.Crew rewards card waiting to be spent!

Thank you for another great recipe.

    7. Fun post , FFM! I am looking at dots for a dress for spring too. i like the pleated skirt of the RL one, but not the buttons all the way up the front. The JC one sounds like the fabric is a bit thin-gauze-and I tend to lke(need) a bit more structure. You are always informative--thanks!

    8. FFM-
I'll have to try the scone recipe. I'm also going to have to try at least one of your Target finds. I love the Brooks Brothers dress reminds me of a short sleeve Laura Ashley dress I bought years ago. I think I prefer the RL dress to the JCrew. I'd love to see it IRL. I'm so happy to see that Banana Republic might be back in the game, I've missed them so.

    9. Excellent read, I just passed this onto a colleague who was doing a little research on that. And he actually bought me lunch since I found it for him smile Thus let me rephrase that: Thank you for lunch!

    10. Let us know how the Target frocks hold up. Sometimes Target"s prices are quite high that one can purchase, with some diligence, for the same price at a more upscale brand by using a code.

    11. Great post. I was checking constantly this blog and I am impressed! Extremely helpful info specially the last part :) I care for such information much. I was looking for this particular information for a long time. Thank you and best of luck.
