A Little This, A Little That...

Love this dress! The print, color, and silhouette are so lovely and has now been added to my wishlist for spring. :)

(Additional view of the dress on the DVF website here).

Is anyone else as excited as I am that the 5th season of Mad Men is going to air on the 25th of this month? It is one of my favorite shows on television to watch (along with Downton Abbey and Doctor Who), and I am really looking forward to the new episodes. :)

In related news...Banana Republic has debuted their new Mad Men Spring Collection on their website. Has anyone made a purchase from the collection or seen any of the pieces IRL? Thoughts? Please do share! :)

As I'm sure most of you already know, J.Crew debuted New Arrivals on their website last week. I actually found quite a few things that I really like this can see them in
this post. :) What are your thoughts on the new arrivals? See anything you're interested in?

In other J.Crew-related news...they are offering 30% off Final Sale items plus FREE SHIPPING on $100+ with code MUSTSHOP at checkout until 3.2.12. There are currently many Promo-priced items (aka already marked down items) on the website that are also eligible for the extra % off (making them an even better deal) plus they are NOT Final Sale...YAY! I have noted the majority of them here. :):

Update on my Merona® Womens Printed Faux Wrap Dresses from Target that I blogged about in this post: they have both been laundered numerous times (I have worn each of them once a week since purchasing them back in January), and they still look the same as the day they arrived at my door. Very cute and comfortable to wear, not to mention very affordable and durable. :)

Last week I shared that I had purchased the Jack Rogers Kenya Sandal in 'Tan Jaguar' (at a fabulous price )and was awaiting their arrival. Well, they were delivered last weekend and do not disappoint at all them!

Now take a look at these beauties...
they are the Jack Rogers Zsa Zsa Jeweled Sandal in 'Platinum'. How gorgeous are they? I had pined after this particular pair all last summer but just couldn't justify the $148 price tag so I waited. Then a couple weeks ago I noticed they were on sale at and finally decided to take the plunge. They arrived yesterday, and I am in love! Now I just need to get a pedicure so that I can start wearing them in this summer-like weather we are having here in Florida right now (highs this weekend are going to reach almost 90 degrees...unbelievable!).

Love those 'jewels'...

Old-Fashioned Homeade Coffee Cake

Image Source (I didn't have the chance to snap a pic of mine before it was devoured.)

This recipe comes from the site. It is incredibly easy to make and extremely delicious...another one of my family's favorites. :)

2 cups flour
2 large eggs
1 cup sugar
1 cup milk
4 tablespoons shortening
1 teaspoon salt
4 teaspoons baking powder

For topping:
1/2 cup brown sugar
2 teaspoons cinnamon
2 tablespoons flour
2 tablespoons butter
finely chopped nuts (optional)
Mix the flour, sugar, salt, and baking powder together.
Add the eggs, milk, and shortening to the dry ingredients, and beat at high speed for 3 minutes.
Pour into a greased 9x13-inch pan.
Mix together topping ingredients.
Sprinkle the topping ingredients on top of the poured cake mixture in the pan.
Bake at 350 degrees F for approx. 40 minutes or until it tests done.
So what have you been up to this week? Please do share...I always love to hear from you! :)

  1. Oh I thought you had all seen Mad Men, it's back on here too soon, so we're on the same viewing time. I've just had a cake disaster, it's all in the sink, I'm making one for a Christening on Sunday and it has to be perfect , oh the stress.

    1. Oh no Tabitha! I'm sorry to hear about your cake disaster! I'm sure the cake you make for Sunday will be perfect though. :)

  2. I cannot wait for Mad Men! It is by far my favorite show. Love the DVF dress-actually many DVF dresses. I wish they'd open a boutique in San Francisco-though it would be big trouble for my wallet :-)
Off to the BR web site to check out their new collection. Happy day!

    1. Hey JulieStyles! Yes, I would love to have a DVF boutique here, too. Some of the department stores carry a bit of her line, but usually not the dresses I'm interested in. I'm saving money to order one from her website though...hopefully in another couple of months. :)

  3. Funny I just replied to DaniDB yesterday on my blog (re DVF themed post) and I linked to the same dress! Great minds think alike :)

    1. Hi ajc! I think the DVF dress you own looks fabulous on you! So funny about linking to the same dress...yes, great minds DO think alike! :)

  4. I'm wearing a DVF today! Not a wrap though, one of her suiting dresses. Her wraps are fabulous. I love silk jersey. The Merona dressed are nice, FFM? Glad to hear they hold up well.

I am printing out the coffee cake recipe now. Yum.

    1. Thanks Gigi! Would you believe I am considering them in Gold, as well...yes! I love them that much! :)

  6. Thank you for the J.Crew Sale heads-up! I seldom find stuff in my budget ... may be the mark downs will help!

  7. Oh, oh, OH! I CANNOT WAIT for the return of Mad Men!

    1. Hi Whitney! Just a few more weeks now...the wait is 'killing' me though! ;)

  8. So much goodness in one post! Thanks for listing all of those J. Crew items - super helpful :)

I am totally in love with those Zsa Zsa sandals. I might have to check out a pair myself...

Husband and I got Mad Men (season 1) for Christmas. I'm excited to start watching it! I also keep hearing about Downtown Abbey... do you recommend it?

    1. This comment has been removed by the author.

    2. Thanks Julie! is also selling them and they are 15% off at checkout now through 3.16.12. It makes them around $88...better than the price I paid even. :)

I HIGHLY recommend Downton will LOVE it! My mom and sister just recently watched both seasons after I told them about it and are now addicted, as well. Oh no...I can't believe I misspelled it in my post! It is actually Downton Abbey...correcting that now.

  9. Can't wait for Mad Men! Why do they make us wait so very long between seasons?

I have to say I was a disappointed w/ BR first go round w/ their Mad Men line. I had been so excited when I originally heard about it. I'm so glad that the Menora dresses have laundered so well, I've been wearing mine sparingly as I've been afraid it wouldn't fair so well. I LOVE it! I think I might even order the animal print one you suggested! You're becoming quite the resource for my clothing purchases.

    1. Dorothy: YAY for another Mad Men fan!!! I really do hate that we have to wait so long between episodes. It always leaves me searching for something else interesting to watch between seasons.

I'm glad to hear that you did end up getting the Merona dresses and love them! They are very cute IRL, aren't they? Definitely go ahead and wear them/launder them as much as you want. They have been holding up really well for me, and I love that they were inexpensive, too! :)

  10. I don't watch Mad Men as one addiction-- to Downton Abbey-- is enough for me; even DH won't miss it.

That dress is a must for you. I need a bit more structure in a dress, I think. I did, however, get the JR Navajo's in platinum on a recent visit to the South; can't wait to wear them on an upcoming visit to Palm World. Thanks for the advise!

  11. Hi Lane! Oh I'm glad to hear that you got a pair of the Navajo's! They are really very comfortable and such a great investment piece, too. :)

    Btw, where is Palm World?

  12. hi ffm. thanks for the tip on the comments. how on earth did you switch over? i'm having a heck of a time with it. also, my blog won't allow the facebook like buttons at the end of the posts. so frustrating.

i adore that dvf dress and also the long green j. crew skirt which i'm going to go look at right now!

  13. Sorry-- Florida!! I was thinking of DaniBP's post on the sound of palms.

    1. Heehee...well, it is sort of a 'Palm World' down here anyways. :) I hope you have fun on your trip! It should be nice and very warm here.

  14. Coffee cake looks yumm! And so is the DVF dress :P
