A Little This, A Little That...

Love This...

And This...

Absolutely Stunning...

This Too...

Yes Please!!! Just the right amount of sparkle, plus it sits at the perfect spot on your neck.

Such a beautiful fragrance...have you had the chance to try it?

Oh how I adore this coat! It's from Club Monaco...have you taken a look at the brand lately? If not, you really many lovely things. You can visit them here. Let me know what you think! :)

The Extra 30% off MUSTHAVE promotion is still going on at J.Crew, plus it appears that many customers have received Free Shipping on their accounts for a limited time. As always, I have listed the Promo-priced items (they receive the 30% off, but are NOT final sale) for both the Women and Men here and here, respectively. Are you taking advantage of the extra 30% off this week? If so, what goodies did you get? Do you have free shipping on your account?

Speaking of J.Crew...they also launched their new Factory site here earlier this week. The new website is now separate from the J.Crew Retail site, so you will no longer be able to combine shipping, and the retail promo codes will not work on the factory site, either. A plus though, is that the flat-rate shipping is just $4.95, and orders of $100+ ship for Free. Also, if you join Factory First, you will receive Free Shipping on all orders until November 1st, and an additional 20% off on your birthday. Just give them your email address to join. You can sign up with Factory First here.

I'm not much of a J.Crew Factory store shopper myself, but I do happen to really like this Blazer in Black Watch Plaid. I bought the retail version last year, but returned it...just didn't care for the self-fabric elbow patches. However, it appears that the factory version does not have them, so that makes it a better option to me.

The Crewcuts Boys' Tees always seem to be really good quality, so those are some items I'll consider if an extra % off for the Factory site comes along. What about you? Do you like the new Factory site? Do you own any of the current Factory items that you would recommend?

Homeade (Yellow) Birthday Cake

As I mentioned in this post last week, this past Tuesday was my third-born son's 7th birthday, which of course meant celebrating with ice cream and cake. I found this recipe for Homeade Yellow Cake online at the beginning of the year, and now make it for every birthday we celebrate ...very delicious. :)

Basic Yellow Cake

2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour (do not sift the flour)
1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
3 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1-teaspoon salt
1 1/4 cups milk
Vegetable oil
1 stick butter (not margarine), softened
1-tablespoon vanilla extract
3 large eggs

Preheat oven to 350°

Grease the bottom of (2) 9 x 1 1/2-inch round pans.

In a large mixing bowl combine the flour, sugar, baking powder and salt, mixing well.

Measure the 1-1/4 cups of milk in a 2 cup measuring cup…then add enough vegetable oil to bring the liquid up to 1-1/3 cups.

Add the milk/vegetable oil mixture, butter and vanilla to the flour mixture and beat with an electric mixer on medium to medium-high speed for 2 minutes, scraping sides of bowl as needed.

Add the eggs and continue beating an additional 2 minutes. Pour batter into prepared pans.

Bake at 350° for 20 to 25 minutes or until a wooden pick inserted near center of cake comes out clean, or until cake springs back when touched lightly in the center.

Cool cakes on wire racks for 15 minutes; remove from pans and cool completely.

Frost as desired (I will be making Homemade Buttercream Frosting - recipe below).

Homemade Buttercream Frosting

3 cups confectioners' sugar
1 cup butter
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 to 2 tablespoons whipping cream or milk

In a standing mixer fitted with a whisk, mix together sugar and butter. Mix on low speed until well blended and then increase speed to medium and beat for another 3 minutes.

Add vanilla and cream and continue to beat on medium speed for 1 minute more, adding more cream if needed for spreading consistency.

That's it for now...

So what have you been up to this week? Do you have any special plans for this weekend? Please do share! I always love to hear from you! :)

  1. Awww, beautiful pictures as always.... Thank you!
I second your Club Monaco recommendation. They have a lot of good stuff, I am actually planning a post with some of their items. The coat looks great. I did not see it in store, but I will look for it next time.

    1. Hi ajc! I'm looking forward to your post about Club Monaco. I haven't seen any of their items in person, so I'm curious to know what you think of them. I do hope the coat ends up being there, and that you can review it. Enjoy your weekend! :)

  2. I checked out Club Monaco. Such nice things!

    1. I think so too, Desert Flower! I'm considering giving one of their turtlenecks a try. Thanks for stopping by! :)

  3. Hi FMM, Club Monaco is a regular stop for me as I live three blocks from one of the original 1980s' non-mall stores. We had it in Canada, along with its now-defunct housewares' partner Caban, long before J. Crew arrived, since it was created by a Canadian Joe Mimram, with Alfred Sung, before they sold out to Ralph Lauren a decade ago. Their in-store palette is still usually very neutral with a smaller selection, and some of the skirts can skew young (length, details) but I find their quality and collaborations have remained pretty consistent. Coincidentally, that founder, is now the head of Joe Fresh, the supermarket (here) and NYC brand you sometimes see WMM and Ema mention.

    1. Make that FFM, I will master tablet typing someday. And happy weekend!

    2. Hi GetFresh! Thank you for all the information about the brand...very interesting! The neutral palette sounds just right for me, but not the shorter skirts. I have heard of Joe Fresh, and actually own one of their skirts. I found it at a Goodwill store over in St. Petersburg, nonetheless...who would have thought? Thanks for stopping by! :)

  4. Hi FFM - great pics! I like Club Monaco, but am pretty limited there, as their neutral colour palette is not my colour palette, except for the black, whites and creams. All beautiful and great quality. ANd I am a huge Joe Mimran fan! Thanks for the recipe!

Asd for the weekend - work and two dinner parties (not at my house thank goodness!)

    1. Thanks WMM! The neutral color palette would work well for me, and I'm really glad to hear that the quality is great, too. I may just end up giving them a try! Have fun this weekend! :)

  5. I did shop quite a bit there when i was still living in atlanta, but they dont have stores here.
Now they finally offer some club monaco items in one of the department stores here, but the prices are very expensive.

    Have a great weekend!

    1. Hi Ina! It looks like we only have one store here, and it is down south in Miami Beach. I'll have to order online if I decide to give them a try. Thanks for sharing your experience! Have a lovely weekend! :)

  6. FFM Happy Birthday to your little son! I hope the whole family has been well. Your birthday cake recipe looks perfect, thanks for sharing it.
I have looked at Club Monaco but have not purchased anything there. They've been around in Canada since I was a teenager, so a very familiar brand for me.
I love that skirt suit in the top picture. I bought one recently that is quite similar from the UK brand Viyella (which I thought only made plaid shirts for older gentlemen!) I am finding that a tweedy skirt suit is perfect for going to Church as it is toasty warm and always appropriate. I'll post on the Viyella find later in the week!

    1. Thank you so much, Dani! He had a wonderful time, and really enjoyed his special day. :) We are all doing well, just incredibly busy as always.

I also love a tweed skirt suit, and look forward to your post on the Viyella. Thanks for stopping by! Enjoy your weekend! :)
