Monday Musings...

Hi is your Monday going so far? Did you have a good weekend? Mine was pretty good.
I was able to get a bit of grocery shopping done after my meeting on Saturday, and even stopped by one of the local thrift stores where I found a very cute embroidered belt (similar to this one at Sundance), as well as a camisole slip...both at 1/2 price, too! Church service on Sunday was of course amazing as always, and afterwards I was able to spend a bit of time reading.

Speaking of reading...what book or books are on your 'to read' list now? Have you added or finished any new ones since the last time we chatted? I have been reading
A Lineage of Grace: Five Stories of Unlikely Women Who Changed Eternity, and I'm just about finished...such a really wonderful read!

So has has the weather been in your neck of the woods? We have had unseasonably warm and incredibly spring-like temps over the past week or so. The highs have been in the 70's, which really is not very common in Montana at this time of year.
Unfortunately I fear that this will mean a very hot summer for us, but even worse is the extra fire danger risk. Honestly, I really much prefer the cold weather and temps in the 20's or 30's anyways. After spending what seemed like an eternity living in Florida, I am very, very, very over the heat and hot temperatures...ideally I would love for it to be fall and winter year round at this point.
At least Montana summers only last for a couple of months, so that is at least one saving grace in the whole weather conundrum we are facing.

A few months ago I purchased this maxi dress in the navy/white, and absolutely love it. Since the temps have been warmer, and wearing sandals doesn't mean my feet will necessarily freeze, I decided I would wear the dress to church last Sunday.
Granted, the dress does have sleeves, so a jacket wasn't really necessary, but I still wanted something to wear over it...thus my Denim Vest DIY project came about on Saturday evening.
I had an extra denim jacket from Old Navy that I had purchased at a thrift store many years ago, and decided it would be my guinea pig. In all actually, there was really no need to be concerned over the fate of the jacket, as the sleeves came off quite easily, and a really cute denim vest was born from the ashes.

Close up shot of vest...

Really gorgeous print on the maxi dress, too...

I accessorized my outfit with the urchin's shell earrings from Anthropologie, gold Michael Kors watch, J.Crew pavé link bracelet, J.Crew Large metallic-leather gallery hobo,
and Jack Rogers Zsa Zsa jeweled thong sandals.
(You can see an IRL pic of bag and sandals can be seen in this post from several years ago.)

In other wardrobe related news...I did a bit of a closet purge this past Thursday, and listed a bunch of J.Crew, Madewell, Anthropologie, Tory Burch, J Brand, & Keen items in this Shop My Closet post yesterday. Take a peek, and let me know if you're interested in anything. :)

Can we speak honestly? After all, we are friends...right?
As of late, I sometimes have a difficult time coming up with different things to blog about, or even have much to say these days. A lot of the times it feels as if I'm speaking to myself, and even gets a bit discouraging, as I don't feel that my readership is as large as it used to be before the move.
To be fair, I think that's the way it is with blogs in general these days, but it can still be disheartening, nonetheless.
So, my dear readers, I would like to know if there are any topics you would like for me to discuss or share my experience about? Of course I absolutely love clothing and shopping, but I am open to talking about many other topics, as well, and I am very interested to find out what YOU are interested please share!

That's it for now...have an absolutely magnificent Monday! :)

  1. Hi Melissa! Yes, blogs in general seem to be on a downward swing. I have always enjoyed your home-making entries, and your musings on what keeps you busy. But sometimes, I agree, it's hard to for up with things to write about. Your choice in poetry or reading or some such might come in handy then. Also, I know you're on IG, but don't necessarily post much. If you really want to get ppl into the thread, I think IG is smth of a replacement to blogs now. I'm surprised at how quiet it gets on the JCA website too these days! C'est la vie. Sorry, I know it's not much help, but I wanted to say hi and offer my tuppence.

    1. Hi maqsad! Thanks for taking time to stop by and share your thoughts. I am also often torn about how much of my personal life I really want to divulge on the internet. I'm a pretty private person in general, so sharing my personal life online for anyone to see can be uncomfortable at times. Unfortunately, it seems in the past that this is the type of info a lot of people want to read about. I do know that Instagram is really popular now like you said, and I've shared a couple of things the past 2 days, so maybe I'll try to start back with trying to post more pics there again. Thanks again for your thoughts! I truly appreciate them! :)

  2. Hi Melissa, I am a loyal reader and very much enjoy your posts but usually don't comment. I am most interested in fashion and like your ootd pics and the fashion images you post. I agree that Instagram seems to be where it is at these days. Btw I would love to shop your closet but you are much smaller than I am.

    1. Jean - thank you so much for taking the time to share your thoughts, and for letting me know you are a loyal reader. I so very much appreciate all of you who stop by on a regular are the best! :)

  3. Hi Melissa! Sorry I didn't get to post yesterday -- it was a classic Monday from hell -- rain, a long (and boring!) meeting at work first thing in the morning -- the whole thing rendered me zombie-like for the rest of the day.

I'm fairly late to blog-reading in general, but during down times here at work (like the one we currently find ourselves in), I'm able to peruse more blogs and I try to leave comments when I can. I think I'd have to agree with the comments about Instagram -- easy for a quick check via phone, doesn't take up too much time, etc. But I can understand why it might be disheartening. :-( Blogs in general seem pretty quiet these days, I've noticed.

I couldn't come up with anything remotely interesting to say or show (not even clothes!!) so I admire all the work you put into your posts and I enjoy them! And I also appreciate that you always take the time to write back :-)

Oh! before I forget, enjoy your good, comfortable weather! here in NYC, we had a relatively mild winter, all things considered but the concern is that we, too, are in for a long, hot, humid summer. (*insert screaming Smiley here*) Ugh. I'm a 'summer' person, in that I love not having to wear jackets or tights, etc, but humidity, OY. I don't think anyone enjoys that except the bugs :-O

PS, the vest came out really cute!! Perfect.
PSS, i hope the jacket thing worked out for you on Posh, grrrr. I've bought stuff off ebay or those Selling groups on FB, some real disappointments from time to time.

    1. Hi TM93! Thanks for taking the time to stop by and comment again! It's always so nice to hear from you and get feedback on my posts. :)

I'm so sorry to hear of the miserable start to your fun at ALL! I hope it's going better for you at this point though. It's hard to believe that it's already Wednesday. I swear that time goes by faster and faster the older I get!

Thanks for your thoughts on the whole blogging issue. I'm sure I'll continue to post in some capacity, just not sure what it's going to be. I will say that I really appreciate how often you stop by and leave a comment. It truly does mean so much to me!

I am also very happy with the way the denim vest turned out, and love that I was able to 'recycle' a wardrobe museum piece to make it worth of regular rotation now. ;)

    2. *worthy of regular rotation (not worth)
